This is an invited talk given on a new platform, Lighthall (currently in beta). It delves into five key Stoic practices drawn from Epictetus' Enchiridion. These are:
    1. the dichotomy of control
    2. depersonalizing problems
    3. paying tranquility's price
    4. valuing your will (prohairesis)
    5. and picking up the right handle
For each of these practices we: look at the relevant passage/passages from the Enchiridion; discuss the basic concepts or ideas involved in the practice; point out ways beginners can get mixed up about this; examine examples Epictetus provides; look at some contemporary examples of our own; engage in some Q&A and discussion about that exercise

Was interested in stoicism for years. I have plenty of stoicism resources. Was overwhelmed by the info so I never fully started. My guess now is you study the practices! Read through everything else. Study the practices! It’s so to the point! 😫 Thank you!

Practices are good. Reading and rereading the classic texts is indispensable

Always nice to see a new video first thing in the morning, which is 5am for me where I live. Especially with a topic like this which will help to make today a great day...and tomorrow...and the day after that. 😊 What I love about stoicism is that it is so practical and especially Epictetus' Enchiridion: "Look, this is how it is. Now go and try it out!" Thank you Dr. Sadler for sharing your favorites.

You're welcome. I think you'll find pretty much all of the ancient schools are pretty practical.
