Been scratching off and on since 2003, still suck and tbh its because I just did not practice enough, it was all about the mixing skill. Now I am waiting on my RP8000's to arrive and I am fired up. Gonna go back and watch the battles that got me hooked at the start, dont care to be technical just want to sound groovy and fun at gigs
Thank you a lot for this discussion with Dopez. I love this guy’s scratch style. What about the same kind of video with his friend Freddie from Swiftstyle ? I knew Dopez from video of Swifstyle channel. That could be great to listen to him talking about how he went to scratch and to his business of break records, about his trips around the world to produce his videos etc. Dopez is a master of phrasing, Freddie is sharp cutting knife.
This was so good! He shared so much amazing knowledge and history, but that tip he gave about the thumb on the crossfader was a hidden gem. That took me a long time to figure out. Great stuff Si!!! Dopez is the shizzzz!
zOmg, DOPEZ has great sets. I feel totally justified in my style development now with all the slow technical scratching I'm doing. Fast scratching bores me
This was really great, thanks so much for this. Both of your videos are ones I frequently return to. Would definitely be interested in an extended cut. Thanks for all the great content.
Wish i could spend more time praticing. With three girls under six years old and doing night shifts at a hospital. Grest interview. Dopez is onr of my favourite skratchers from the new age of skratchers. Just really great content Sy 👌
I'm going to send DopeZ a cloth to clean his camera. ... Here I was trying to wipe my laptop screen for 20 minutes thinking its got black specks on it lnfao -
Super dope. Definitely remember being one of the people who was like "this kid is dope!!!". Also, that's my copy of Switchblade Sermons from discogs! I don't think many of the picture cover versions exist.
I feel the opposite about Left vs Right handed scratching. I started out right handed and while I can do some really clean cuts, I feel on the left I can flare a lot better. Something about the thumb on the left hand being towards the center on the record as opposed the the pinky with the right. Almost 2 different styles imo
hey Si do you think you could make a video regarding how to use scratching to make quick transitions between hiphop tracks? things like dropping tracks on a 1 or a 4
Very cool interview. Interested in longer format version 🙂
+1 definitely
+1 yap!

I'd love to see more interviews like this. Good tablists talking about their (and other people's) techniques.
