    Dear Nick: I was reading the comments below, (and this is my 4th video): Fact is, I love you Nick!
    I live in the kind of home that probably would horrify you but it works becausen priority 1 for hubby and I is that we have our own separate levels.....as in floors....so (I can't believe I purchased a suburban high ranch but I did and had I had your advice it would work even more efficiently than it does.....)
    When I started, I did a deep dive into Japanese design / decor and so the home is not obnoxious.
    Wish this wasn't the first time (4 shows is a minimal into)....consider our first date a success.....
    Thanks for doing both Ikea and "high end".......learning as I go....Thank you for making decor a relaxing creative experience as opposed to a panic inducing terror trip.....
    I would love to see a series on "decorating" from step 1 for stupid first time home owners......my best strength: knowing what I do not know.....and recognizing people who do (you) looking forward to more....G PS Is there an RH-like furniture line but smaller? G

      I wanted to do my bathroom but my computer doesn't support flash and my husband asked me not to download flash. And Ikea said they had a new design system coming. I thought: Great! I waited.
      The new system came in and... I can't make heads or tails of it. I'm completely lost and I can't use it. I've shown my husband, he can't figure it out either. We're going to wait a few more years to save up the extra cost of getting a contractor to do our bathroom for us. I suppose we won't be buying our bathroom from Ikea because most of the draw was that we could do it ourselves.

    The Bingsta chair in yellow realy captured my attention when browsing their store. Gives off the high end designer feel with a pop of color from when that was popular. Only thing is that it would be awesome if they allso offerd it in a higher priced natural fiber and wooden legs, because it is polyester.

  • @rebeccarendle3706
    @rebeccarendle3706 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    How come noone (especially from USA, Canada etc) mentions the Ivar range? Which is IKEAs oldest solid wood shelf system that they have had and developed for over 50yrs... It is so popular in Northern Europe and Scandinavian because it is simple, robust, clean line, light, natural, flat-packable for moving, adaptable, interchangeable and ages really well!... It is perfect for Scandinavian style, but also fits into many other styles.... Just curious?

    • @JMJ.516
      @JMJ.516 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just looked at the Ivar line. It has to be because it looks very pinewood with the visible knots and that’s considered furniture you’d only find in backwood cabins etc.

    • @rebeccarendle3706
      @rebeccarendle3706 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@JMJ.516 yes is it pine wood... But we like that in Europe because it is light I colour and weight, and a very easily sustainable wood because it grows here in Europe and grows fast! And we like the knots because it gives character!
      Dark hardwoods are often illegal from eg rainforests and make a house look dark.. So doesn't fit with sustainable sources and aren't scandinavian style which we like here in our smaller European homes.

    After months and months of searching for a buffet style cabinet for our modern dining room we were frustrated by the thousands of dollars it was going to cost. Then the angels shined down from heaven and we found the besta cabinets! We bought seven, with doors and hung them at counter height. Voila! Perfection. Exactly what we needed and 10 years later they are still there, with a lot of weight. I highly recommend!

    The coolest item I ever bought from IKEA was the Billy bookcase with glass doors. I loved it so much I bought a second and rigged each with picture lights. I have them in dark indigo blue and they flank the window in my living room. I'll probably never part with them, but if I tire of the blue, I'll simply paint them black.

    I think my favorite IKEA product is the SKUBB storage system. They're great for adding additional storage space in a closet in the case of the hanging SKUBB organizers, which said space may be at a premium in a smaller apartment like mine. And it's nice to create an inexpensive closet organizer without the cost of a custom closet when you can't afford one or can't do custom in an apartment rental.

    Anything in the Hemnes collection. It is solid wood not particle board and it’s in a Lucious brown black which is amazing. I have a few pieces and they are super durable plus all the drawers are lined with a stripe pattern liner.
    Easy to assemble and simply stunning. Especially for traditionalist decor.

    My two favourite IKEA purchases of all time - and unfortunately they’re no longer available in Canada (but they may still sell in some countries) - are the:
    1. indoor / outdoor high back, black rattan armchairs from 4 years ago called the Storsele, and
    2. A black metal table lamp (they also made a floor lamp and a ceiling pendant I believe) from way back - 10-15 years ago. I cannot remember the name but it looked like a designer Atollo lamp except with a skinny base. Screamed 60s mod to me as opposed to the turn-of-the-century, industrial look of the Hektor line which I like too (even though Atollo was 1970s I think...).
    Man I miss that line of lighting. It’s the first line I can recall from this shift IKEA made towards incorporating pieces that look very high end / designer to their basics that we all know and love. We kind of expect that from IKEA now but it wasn’t always like that, at least in my memory.
    I still have that dang table lamp that broke probably 10 years ago and at the time, my local lighting repair shop said not to bother (ie we may be able to repair but it’s not worth the cost, just buy a new one). I’ve lugged that thing through 5 different house moves thinking I must try again with a different repair shop and just never got to it. So your video has given me a kick in the pants to get that neglected lamp fixed and back out on display! 🙌🏻

    I don't know if you have kids or not but some ideas about organizing books and toys aside from purging them would be very helpful. My son is 4 has his own "gutters screwed into studs to hold the books" library and is a monster truck fan. So there are a lot of them and throwing them isn't an option. If ikea has systems for that ideas would be great!

    I don't know where you got your art framed and I also live on the other side of the world (Belgium) but I get my pictures and art that is not standard format framed at a local art supply store. Their prices are quite reasonable, they have a lot of frame choices and they're totally used to framing things with rough edges or raised patterns.

    PrettyPegs is another good ikea upgrade source. I got the legs for my Kallax shelves from them
