When people start getting shot and killed while stealing these items, the problem will surely start to go away... Lol. Good stuff thanks for posting...
most stealing these things are junkies with no regards for their own lives. I just caught 2 guys trying to take mine 2 late nights ago. they barely sped off. this morning it was all over the news that they hit 9 vehicles 3 blocks from me. I got lucky but know they will return
I can see injuring one of those guys guys but I wouldn't go so far as to kill someone for stealing a cat, that's a human life I will take and will have to live with that decision, now if they were threatening my life or that of my family it's a different story.
That was a great video for anyone thinking about protecting those cats. I have seen and read many articles about the issues with them being stolen. This lil shop could be the next heavy hitter in converter protection. Great content Dan.
Thanks Marty. Unfortunately this is going to be a very common aftermarket accessory similar to the removable faceplates on head-units in the 90's needed to prevent radio smash and grabs.
These will definitely help prevent converter theft and enhance the protection of a number of vital parts. My concern is whether or not these ventilate enough to prevent the converter overheating and setting fire to the vehicle. I would STRONGLY SUGGEST that prior to and after install that you compare before and after temperatures and try to get an idea whether the floors of the cab and bed aren't getting too hot to the point of melting wiring, carpet, insulation, fuel and brake lines, etc.
I'm not sure why these would prevent theft anymore than the OEM one. Both seem to require similar work to remove to get at the converter. If someone was ready to the job on an oem plate I'm not seeing what is stopping them from removing these plates? After watching this I'm more confident in my OEM plates already acting as a deterrent.
Great video. Another protection problem for too many people: not parking the vehicle in the garage or behind a gate. Some just can’t but too many people use their garage as a storage unit and their vehicle is outside 24/7. Security is almost always about making your property more difficult to steal.
Is there anyway you could do a follow up “I’ve had this thing installed a month or two” video? Any issues with access to oil plug or overheating issues?
i watched this the day you uploaded it and was going to order it but ended up getting caught up with work and forgot about it. Just had to park on the street since the driveway was full and i said to myself sh** why didnt i buy this thing and havent installed already, Im going inside and buying this thing right tf now . and.......Sold out.....and im pretty sure its because of this video lol. but still i wouldnt know if it werent for this video so i guess its a good thing . Thanks for the content . Picked up my lariat powerboost in december and 4k miles later its been nothing but a dream...knock on wood, your videos played a huge role in me making my final decisons.

Dan, it looks like the bottom of the corvette when you took the video from the front. Cleaning up the parasitic drag under the truck might just increase fuel mileage, never know. Good job.
As much fun it may seem to pick off someone under the truck, it maybe harder hiding the body. HaHa . I am waiting on my new Powerboost should be to me in less then 6 weeks at most I'm told now. I ordered my skid plates from Talons Garage for the F-150 Powerboost , thanks for the recommendation. Sorry you're not making on the sale. But I'm sure at one point they will be in demand. I am taking this time to make rear plates out of harden stainless, making it harder to cut or bend. Unless they hook into my beds 240 and bring their own plasma cutter. Thanks again for the videos.
I put the Raptor plate on my F150 platinum 3.5L TT for this reason, at least slow them down. Also, plastic transmission pan… ugh. Fiberboard and a good rock will take them out. I am interested in that front plate though. I’ll check them out! Thanks!
Thanks for the video and I got mine on order after watching your video. I don’t really have the space to do the install myself so I’m taking it to my favorite mechanic and having them do it. I’m certain that a methhead will look under my truck, see the plate and move on to the next victim - I doubt they’ll even mess around with it. I didn’t really wanna spend $400 on a skid plate but it sure beats the shit out of $4000 for a new cat and who knows how long until it gets fixed. Thanks for the video.
There's an option for reinforced ribs; that increases the price by roughly $50. The website says that it's for improvement with offroading, but from a theft prevention point of view would it make any difference?
Hey love your video..I bought the Talon Garage Catalytic converter shield..for my powerboost. It came with ZERO instructions so your video was very handy. I'm in the middle of the install. Got the front done..the back is NOT DONE. It's hard to tell in your video how u mounted the back plates
Had three converters stolen off my Tundra…. While it was AT THE DEALERSHIP for service. Cost almost 5G to replace….. and a mess with the insurance and auto dealership both wanting the other to cover it…. Lost use of my truck for an extra week.
I put a raptor transmission skid plateon my 2020. Costs 1/3of the talon one which is never in stock . Ford # HL3Z-7222-C just need two extra frame nuts and 2 more bolts .made of steel. Wraps around the outside of the frame.
I ordered my skid plates for my Powerboost , thanks for the recommendation. I still want the front one in the future. I also wanted to let you know that I was disappointed with the handling of my truck in the ECO mode. Did you know that the sway bar in the front is very small comparing to other F150s out there. I installed a sway bar on the rear to start with and it solved about 50% of the issue. I’m waiting on a larger sway bar for the front to be available. I also have the CCD shock system. I do like it so far.
I have a 2021 F-150 Powerboost - can a thief just unscrew the Catalytic converter skid plate? Or is it difficult to remove? I would love to have some peace of mind. Also can my local dealer install it?

do you think the soft feltish covers over the cats are enough to increase the theft time, such that thieves will move on? or will they take the time to cut off the soft covers as well in order to get to the cats?
Excellent information. Are you concerned any about over heating the catalytic converter with the shield? Just curious, I have no idea. I just got a 2022 F 150 Hybrid and deciding what all to do. I am really enjoying looking at your videos about the F 150 Hydrid! Thanking you in advance for your reply.
That truck seems like it has very low clearance. Looked like it was a struggle to install the bolts, is there actually enough room under the truck without a jack to get to the cats easily?
I have a 21 F-150 Powerboost as well and have been thinking of way to protect the catalytic converter. Do you think the vehicle warranty will be voided by installing that plate? What about heat displacement, let us know if you notice heat buildup after installing the plate. Thanks for the video.
I can't see how it could void a warranty as it really doesn't touch a single element that they could claim broke due to the plate (Magnuson-Moss Act). In regards to temperature, It was already covered by that felt tray and the aluminum if anything is a much better heat sync. Out of curiosity I drove 45 minutes and touched the plate. First and foremost, I was extremely cautiously and far from the cats, then moved slowly closer. There was not a single place that was more than luke warm to the touch.
Interesting idea. Have a couple of questions. Does it make oil changes much harder? I've heard that having a smooth underneath (Ha!), you can get better aerodynamics. Have you noticed any increase in MPG? Thanks for the video!
It has a cut out for oil draining but it is a pain changing the oil as the cutout needed to move over about 2 inches. I just got a cockvalve with a hose where you just open it and drains the oil no problem!
@@DjTxTruth No! I had to take it off to put the cockvavle on and it took me a hour just to get 2 out of four bolts off. Plus I put on bolts that needs a special tool to take them out.

I have a 2014 f150 someone just stole my Cadillac converter and they still the mirrors off my doors but I am so upset about this and I have to replace everything
off duty officer in houston just walked out of a grocery store to his cats getting stolen in the exact scenario you mentioned at the start of your video. He was killed. He shot two of three thieves in the process, but he ended up dead. sad all around.
Oh man that is so terrible. What a bunch of scumbags. Makes me sad to think people like this exist who would murder someone just to score a few bucks at the scrap yard.
Had two cut off of my E-250, clamped two pipes where they were cut off and it failed inspection, been sitting in my yard since Jan. this year. A 11year old van has now become a storage shed, unfortunately I just filled up with gas the day before this happened, so I have about 35 gallons of weed killer sitting in the tank. Now they are drilling holes in the gas tanks to steal gas, maybe I need to dump 5 lbs. of sugar in my tank so when they come to take the gas out of this junk van LOL. Quoted $2500 to have to van fix, The van is not worth it. I heard some being killed as the car falls off the jack while cats are being cut off, Trucks are easy targets, no jack is needed.
Dan this is a subject that been on my mind I also have a f-150 powerboost I had the truck ppf and took off the powerboost badging but I am also looking on how to keep someone from stealing my catalytic converter this look like a simple solution my question is are there any holes that have to be drilled for the Mount The skid plate or can you use the pre-existing holes can you tell me what is the difference in the oil drain cover there’s two options regular and reinforce how is it reinforced and is it necessary to get the reinforced and how long does it take just to install this skid plate only
If you did the skid plate only for the cats I am guessing you could do it in 3ish hours. It uses all factory mounting holes but does take some time to organize and reach bolts. I think it is a solid solution. I will have to do a part 2 on the oil change thing, I kind of blew past that important part of the video because my truck isn't due for a change yet so I just didn't really think to mention it. That was a big thing I certainly missed and should have been talked about in the video. I bought their recommended drain valve but being that I have it installed without that valve now, I will be able to demonstrate what its like to change the oil WITH the valve, and with the standard plug. Stay tuned for that.
@@GearsGadgets Dan I want to thank you for replying back and can you tell me if you have to use the powerboost add on brackets to install the catalytic skid plates can’t want until your next video on the oil drain plug and change
I figured a way to install it..but its clearly not cut correctly. One side has a huge gap to the frame rail..the driver side is tight to frame rail. It's OFF. NO INSTRUCTIONS Either..I'm not a Happy Camper. It's beautiful looking..
I was thinking of doing this to my truck also. However, I wasn’t sure exactly how oil & filter changes will work. Do you have to remove the plates to access the drain plug and the front filter if you put the front plate on?
I will have to do a video on that, I really should have included that commentary in this video but since my truck wasn't due for a change I just kind of blew past that consideration. I did order the drain valve they recommend so I will do another video soon doing the oil change with the plate on.
@@wg5768 that was part of my point which it looks like I cut out in the edit is that it’s not worth running outside and getting shot over a thief. No matter what the driveway justice doesn’t outweigh the risks of getting shot yourself or having to defend yourself from an aggressive prosecution.
PowerBoost is a hybrid. It has the twin turbo 3.5L eco boost combined with an electric motor sandwiched between the motor and trans. It’s an interesting take on a hybrid where it’s focused more on turbo gas power first, electric second.

🤦🏼♂️this isn’t a political issue. Last I checked there is zero right given by the right or left to steal catalytic converters, still illegal everywhere. Why do people love to find a way to assign politics to every aspect of life. I guess it’s easier to blindly blame politics than it is to apply critical thought to complex issues.
@@GearsGadgets Your correct they have zero rights to steal catalytic converters but here in NY there is no deterrent. Non violent criminals are released with an appearance ticket. No jail time no deterrent. Who put these no bail laws in effect here in NY? Democrat law makers that's who.
What are you talking about? The GOP is currently FILLED with potential criminals who aided and abetted the biggest criminal of all, Trump, in trying to steal an election. This video has nothing to do with politics.
A 45 or 357 does the same job and they won't come back!!! Damn shame how desperate democrats make people with a shitty economy!!! Think hard before you vote.
Catalytic converter theft doesn't start and stop based on who's elected president, people REALLY love to take everything straight to the White House as if its to blame for local crime trends. Scumbags have and always will exist regardless of mutually (regardless of party) ineffective politicians in office. You also missed my point of marching out in your driveway to shoot someone only to be shot down yourself by their scumbag accomplice hiding waiting in the shadows shooting you dead in your own driveway while you rightfully defend your property. The skid plate just alleviates your need to get politically fired up over non-political things, or getting killed playing Rambo. Now if those scumbags come through the door...... it will rain hellfire quicker than they can turn and run.
Super easy, remove the access panel for the oil pan, pull the skid plate on the front for the oil filter. If you can remove 8 screws, you are fine. If you can’t, you shouldn’t do your own oil changes anyway.

Did they fix the front transfer case for powerboost? I have active airdam
@@scooterman7888 Couldn't a theif just easy just take out the screws for the plate
@@DjTxTruth No! I had to take it off to put the cockvavle on and it took me a hour just to get 2 out of four bolts off. Plus I put on bolts that needs a special tool to take them out.
@@DjTxTruth Opps sorry I left the plate off and it makes it easier for a oil change. It's a 3 x 6 cutout but doesn't effect the whole cover.
@@scooterman7888 Can you tell me the name of the screw because I need to buy some
Do you know if It is works with an F150 V8, FX4 package?
Great video! Any issues with the access panel and oil changes once this is installed?
Would this fit ‘23 f150 tremor?
Do you think this also
replaces the "diaper" that is up there now?
Yes it does.
@@GearsGadgets GREAT- thanks- I'll be contacting them come payday-amazing how we have to consider thieves in our spending for truck stuff. - great video
1960 n Aldine Westfield I stay right across from that Joe V's where it happen
So this fit a F150 Lariat 2022 ECOBOOT too?
I figured a way to install it..but its clearly not cut correctly. One side has a huge gap to the frame rail..the driver side is tight to frame rail. It's OFF. NO INSTRUCTIONS Either..I'm not a Happy Camper.
It's beautiful looking..
I have a F150 2002 they stole my catalysts converter s my insurance paid for it but I need to order this we’re how do I Oder them?
What size neoprene washers did you use?
Just the regular F150 FX4 doesn’t need the extra plate does it? Just the cover for the catalytic
Converter? Correct?
That is correct.
The big question I have is will this do double duty as a skid plate?
It is 1/4” aluminum plate, so yes.
I want to buy one of these so badly but the phone number listed in their website doesn't work, and they don't respond emails either.
The news report you played clearly stated the car's owner was shot by the converter thief.
Yes it did
Will that cat shield also cover the oil pan area?
Yes it does
Does this interfere / interact with the FX4 skid plates? I’m awaiting delivery of my FX4 so I can’t look under a FX4 truck to see for myself. :)
just got a powerboost FX4 2022 - did you yet and do you know if they (Talon) will fit? I'm going to look next time I can
I was thinking of doing this to my truck also.
@@GearsGadgets thanks, looking forward to it.
I installed this plate a week ago and my transmission is getting really hot up to 210 on a normal day and 217 towing light. Have you had this problem?
The news report stated that the owner got shot by the thief, not the other way around.
@@wg5768 that was part of my point which it looks like I cut out in the edit is that it’s not worth running outside and getting shot over a thief. No matter what the driveway justice doesn’t outweigh the risks of getting shot yourself or having to defend yourself from an aggressive prosecution.
Powerboost?? Is that another name for Ecoboost? Never heard it referred to as a Powerboost.
PowerBoost is a hybrid. It has the twin turbo 3.5L eco boost combined with an electric motor sandwiched between the motor and trans. It’s an interesting take on a hybrid where it’s focused more on turbo gas power first, electric second.
Great Video! Thank you 🔥👏💪🫶
Man my cousin in Kansas city has a 2019 Ram sum one down town took his he has 2 on duel pipes Rams cost $5900 insurance cost took a month because boats in California
Dan I have a powerboost also and I found a easy way to get rid of that annoying fake electric engine noise check out Mitch cox video on how to get rid of fake electric engine noise and I think this will benefit you when you are driving in electric mode
Here’s an idea, make it illegal to buy a cut out cat.
Its already illegal to steal them so what is another law going to do to prevent this. (ANSWER: Nothing) because thieves don't obey laws. Government can only do so much. The rest is up to the citizen and this video is just that. Don't give government that power and take care of your own.... Be a man!
I think maybe there stolen for the platinum?
Ring ramps are cheap and work great for big boys to get under the truck.
Anyone else having an issue with the power boost that the plate causes a crazy rattle noise?

Sad day when a person has to buy something like this to stop thieves from stealing a catalytic converter from your vehicle. The dip shits who are stealing these things should focus their energy on finding an actual job. Some people are just plain and simply fucked up.
I totally agree, I think these people are complete scumbags and deserve whatever projectiles come their way in the midst of being complete dirt balls.
Tired of this stupid plastic cardboard skid Plate falling off the damn truck everytime I drive over some grass or a small rock. Idk how it falls off..its hanging down right freaking NIW
Scrap yards are the real villians

That would be a perfect time to collect insurance and go high flow downpipes 😎
Good information, but the music is borderline unbearable
Start quote " When the looting starts then the shooting starts" end quote President D.T.
Cool. Politics being inserted into every aspect of life for no reason. My favorite thing 🤮
That's a Big NO from me.......This will only trap more heat under truck from the Hottest component of the vehicle. That's what insurance is for..........Thx for sharing
It already covered but the felt/plastic tray.
Chris is right, It was already covered by that felt tray and the aluminum if anything is a much better heat sync. Out of curiosity I drove 45 minutes and touched the plate. First and foremost, I was extremely cautiously and far from the cats, then moved slowly closer. There was not a single place that was more than luke warm to the touch.
I believe this plate doesn't fit in a truck that has been lifted ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️💩
Remember Democrat law makers gave the criminal rights not you.
You need to borrow a floor jack? 😂
I have a floor jack but it wasn’t necessary and also wanted to show how it wasn’t hard to do without needing a lift.
@@GearsGadgets hmm. Okay
Kool
RIP future oil changes
Super easy, remove the access panel for the oil pan, pull the skid plate on the front for the oil filter. If you can remove 8 screws, you are fine. If you can’t, you shouldn’t do your own oil changes anyway.
I prevent this type of theft by driving an EV.

Let me know how your EV tows a 33’ camper for more than six hours at a time.

That’s music was so annoying but good video
Fair enough, its not easy picking royalty free music for these videos. Lots of garbage to sift through and only so much time in the day. You really start to appreciate the people who are responsible for compelling movie soundtracks.
Horrible advice to say not to confront the thieves. So we just let the thieves do as they wish and steal, steal, steal!?
Don't listen to the video maker here. Be a man and kick the shit out of thieves. Liabilities?! Please. Any police department that will not side with the owners are probably in the theft business too.
I mean you can confront them and risk getting shot or you can just deal with insurance. The choice is yours.
No, liabilities like playing Rambo and running to pummel scum bags only to be shot in the back of the head yourself by a lookout that you were too angry and tunnel vision to see at that moment. Does your family value your catalytic converter more, or you more? It is incredible to me that you had such little practical thought through watching this "video maker" and actively typing this comment. Truly incredible.
