My epic Indian food tour through the Bay Area of California continued with a one-of-a-kind tour of San Jose! Come with me as I eat Indian food for 24 hours in San Jose, California!
Joining me on this amazing tour is my good friend Kiran! San Jose has the second-largest Indian population in the US, and the fastest-growing Indian population in America, so you know the food there is good!
    🇮🇳 ULAVACHARU TIFFINS: / ulavacharutiffins
    🇮🇳 RED CHILLIES: / redchilliesca
🇮🇳 CURRY PIZZA HOUSE: / currypizzahouse
We began our day at Ulavacharu Tiffins for a South Indian veg breakfast. Inside, I met Latha, who told me it’s a pure veg restaurant. We’d be having some spicy Andhra cuisine. They have over two dozen types of dosas!
At the counter, they sell locally-sourced spice mixes made by the women from Latha’s village. In the kitchen, we watched them make a rava dosa, spicy idli, and more.
We started with a frothy and creamy filtered coffee before starting on the three dosas, gunpowder idli, Mysore bonda, and more. The idli are covered in gunpowder spice and fried in ghee. I loved the freshness of the coconut chutney.
The ginger chutney is Latha’s family recipe and is tangy, sweet, and unreal! They also use fresh coconut in the coconut chutney. The Mysore masala dosa with the coconut chutney had a spicy paste, and the sambar was like a chunky veggie stew!
Next was the pesarattu, a typical Andhra dish that looks like a green pea dosa and contains green chilies, cashews, and onions. It tasted very different from a dosa. The peanut chutney was like peanut butter!
Then, we tried punugulu, a type of round fritter containing ginger, chili, and onion. It’s similar to a bonda. I loved them with the chutneys. They were all good enough to drink! The ginger is the best I’ve ever had.
The rava dosa was airy, flaky, and crispy. Next were fluffy bonda with the amazing chutneys.
Our final dish was bobbatlu, a sweet flatbread with jaggery. It’s almost like a light dessert paratha!
Then, we drove 10-15 minutes to Red Chillies Malabar Cuisine! Inside, Shaji and Joshy took us to the kitchen, where they were making parottas, beef fry, chicken curry, fish curry, and more.
They also have a small stand where they make appam. We also had fish fry, achari cabbage, veg korma, and putu. The puttu was light and fluffy, and full of coconut flavor.
The carrots, green beans, and cauliflower in the veg korma were amazing. The parottas have so many flaky layers and are heavenly with the beef fry. It was so good!
The fish fry were fried sardines. I had to be careful of the bones, but they were salty and tasty. The Thalassery biryani with raita and lemon pickle was made with a short-grain rice and so tasty and unique!
I loved the crab curry. It was spicy and so tasty, I bit right into the crab! There was so much meat, and it was fantastic with the parotta. My favorite dish so far!
Dessert was ada pradhaman, which is made with coconut milk, jaggery, cashews, and raisins. It’s so unique, nutty, and crunchy. It’s a great palate cleanser!
Our final stop was Curry Pizza House, which makes Indian-style pizzas. There, I met Dimple and watched them make pizzas and wings in the back!!
The Desi garlic sticks were like cheesy breadsticks with chilies, onion, and garlic. Adding chili flakes gave them a kick! I enjoyed them with an 805 IPA. The chili paneer/achari gobi pizza was rich in vegetables and had no tomato sauce.
The boneless wings were also amazing with the dipping sauces. I loved the marinades on them. They were all so different but so juicy! Finally, we had fluffy, high-quality butterscotch and mango ice creams for dessert!

Of course parotta! You need to try the Kerala Fish Curry(the dark red one) (I think you got Fish Mappas in the video), and normally Appam and Chicken Curry go well together. Kerala prawn curry, Fried Ground Mutton Curry, Kanthari Prawn, Nadan Chicken Curry, chilli beef (long strips of beef with bell pepper, long chilli pepper), Chicken Roast
