In those poor times, people do similar jobs, earn similar (quite low) salaries, get similar education which does not requires students too high like today. We did not know how much we lagged behind those developed countries at that time. Sometimes, happiness is simple and money does not matter that much. If I could, I would go back to Beijing 1990s.
