whenever eating at a Chinese Restauranr you need to order rice with all your entree. you ate the duck alone that's why y'all still hungry after. The duck should be just your main dish. should order some veggie and noodle dishes along with the rice you all will be super full and satisfy.
@@travelshorts No actually... People don't usually order rice when having Beijing Duck. There's already the pancake. For me personally there's too much fat in Beijing duck so I get full easily, but I guess Westerners are more used to dishes with high fats. For most of the other occasions though, yes you'll probably need rice or noodles for the 'main dish (主食)', that's how we call them.

@@travelshorts You're a brave good father, the fact that you don't read or speak Mandarin but are willing to show your kids the world up close, bravo. China is lovely and the people are great, knowing some of the language allows you to know that everyone is kind, with few exception. Any awkward situation usually comes down to language barrier, but as long as intentions are good, everyone is helpful and kind. If you can, swing down to Shanghai and show your kids the Bund at night, it will change their lives. There is nothing more important during these times we are entering.
Thank you for your kind comments. later in this trip we go to Shanghai and even spend one night in a hotel with an amazing view of the Bund and Pudong Skyline.
Sorry for that "black taxi", do not take any taxi that doesn't use the meter next time, it's highly possible it is not a real taxi. Write down the car number and call the 12315 hotline.

Children under 12 age could enjoy half-price tickets or a free ticket for all public transportation in China. Sometimes, it's also access to tourist attractions.
Has anyone noticed the 2 sentences on tian an men? One sentence says long live the people 's Republica of china. The other one means long live ,all the people of the world unite
Near Jingshan Park or the forbidden city area, didi or other uber like service is not available. Last time, coming out of jingshan park, we had to walk for more than 1km away from that "central" region to get a Didi. Not sure this is for security reason. The 70 yuan "taxi" car interior has no sign of a regular taxi, so you may be ripped off from unregulated taxi drivers, which still can be seen at popular tourist spots or high speed railway stations. I will never take them because for sure they will rip you off.
You are very willing to try and understand different customs and eating habits, and you respect them very much. You are a gentleman. China is a vast country with a long history and a lot of scenery. Different cities have different beauty and food. I hope traveling in China can bring you a great experience for your family. Have fun with your family!
Sorry for the bad experience of the taxi, if you have any information about the taxi, we’d love to report the driver to the regulatory department for punishment. BTW, Welcome to China❤
In China's capital, especially Tiananmen Square, it is the most important place! So the security check is relatively strict! I think every country is similar! I wish you a happy trip in China!

The video is simply a very detailed travel guide to the Forbidden City in Beijing, which is very useful not only for non-Chinese people, but also for many Chinese people as well..done well !
I am sorry you were overcharged by a taxi driver around the Jingshan park. I now live in Shanghai, and I used to live in Beijing from 2008-2011. The area around Tiananmen Square is among the most heavily guarded and controlled in all China, and all the state visit motorcade would drive through the square and the welcome ceremony be hosted in front of the People’s hall in the west of the square. No drivers want to pick up or drop off passengers in that area, if they have a choice. I could understand why the didi driver called you, probably telling you he is too far away to pick you…(might be excuse anyway). The taxi driver did not use meter because it is too short a distance and he does not want to bother unless you pay him a lumpsum fee. Next time you just keep using didi to call for another vehicle. If the driver refuses to pick you up, just file a complaint. It is transparent and provides much better experience than taxi. I haven’t taken any taxi for about 10 years since I started using didi… taxi drivers could be tricky and rude sometimes…
China is a great country for family travel , its safe and convenient . You wont be exposed to pickpockets, (gun)violence, drugaddicts, homeless . You can walk freely in the evening safely with wife and/or kids .
I'm impressed, you did your research and got around fairly well for a first timer. most first time visitors run around like a headless chicken 🤣. yeah beijing is just super strict with security especially around the tiananmen square area where all the government buildings are. I saw another flag so likely a foreign head of state was in town adding to more security lol. I assume you went to other cities and had a lot less difficulties. also insist taxis turn on meters, it's required by law; you can report ones that don't but I guess if it wasn't too extreme you probably didn't want to bother.
China will become the biggest economy in a foreseeable future. Parents have both the duty and responsibility to help their children to see the world more clearly. Great video all of you - I came to China in 2001 and stayed in the same street as you, big difference back then is you could just walk straight into Tianamen Square - I must say when I was there in 2001 it was the most welcomed I had ever felt in another country and I have always loved China since a boy, I enjoyed seeing you guys in the Forbidden City, especially after watching Yanxi Palace on TV as it brings back memories- I plan on coming back to China soon - I appreciate you did your homework about different aspects of China before arriving, unlike these young 144 hour visa TH-camrs who just go to China for clicks on their channel - to ALL Chinese people watching this video, support this guy as he clearly loves your country just like me.

It is a symbolic area of China where the Chinese Government wants to prevent any possibility of terrorism happened in that area. That is why the security level is the highest.
