Sounds like clogged pilot jets to me! Did you get it sorted yet? What did it end up being? Curious as I have the same bike and am in process of carb cleaning and tank draining myself. I bought it and it had been sitting for 5 years with old fuel.
Hi I'm having the same trouble, did u get it sorted out?? There's a pilot screw on the bottom of the carb I might give that a shot but if you sorted it advise would be great !
@Sacha Sorry for the slow reply. I did end up getting it sorted out eventually. I first thought it was a vacuum issue so I replaced the petcock, but that only made a minor improvement. It turned out to be the Dynatek ignition system. I finally took it to a buddy of mine and we determined that the 1st and 4th cylinder weren't firing properly. I had it running well for 3-4 months, but it started running rich and flooding the carbs when I tried to give it gas. Similar to the condition in the video. So the long answer is I am still tinkering with it and it's not yet reliable yet again. I cam to rewatch this video so I can compare its current condition to the time of this video (and subsequently stumbled upon your comment - not sure why I missed the notification. Again, sorry about that). I think I'm going to drain my gas tank and give it a good cleaning just in case the fuel delivery is bonkers for some reason (hopeful for a more simple fix this time), and I also ordered new main jets for the carb I'm going to install next week and see if that makes a difference (I put different jet's on it a few months before this video so that could be contributing to the issues as well. I'll probably work on it some next week and can post another video. @Sasha Scurlock & @Black Metal Otaku Any luck sorting thru your issues? Are you both still having similar problems? Hopefully we can help one another arrive at a permanent solution here.
@@jessjobe5540 I left the bike for a while I still haven't sorted it, but today I took the carbs off fitted some new jets and piolet jets and mixture screws. were on lockdown hear so don't have any petrol to try it. When I do I will let you know.
I have a 1977 GS 550, have cleaned the carbs, tank, petcock, after setting a long time, have adjusted the points set timing, new cleaner. If it sets for a little while, hard to get it started. But once it starts, it runs really well, fast little ride. I going to put in new points and condensers as well as new coils, and another new set of plugs. Any ides anyone. Would check valves but no one has any shims around here. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks
