Wow, just discovered this, and the timing for finding this couldn’t have been better. I’m 22, and despite losing my job from covid, I decided it was time to make massive change in my life, so a couple weeks ago I moved across the US with only three suit cases and a couple thousand. I feel like the song/video perfectly embody that inexplicable feeling you get when you’re maintaining so much hope for so long without even having a concrete reason to, but you do anyway. To hear this for the first time in my first (empty) apartment 2,500 miles from home was absolutely surreal, and feels like it just marked the start of something new. Maybe this is an overshare, but I can’t think of another video that touched me the way this one did and just thought I’d share the experience 🙂

This song was playing in the uber on my way home after a guy broke my heart. All I remember was crying my lil heart out and hearing those synths. Don’t think I’ve ever found a song that resonated with me so much - uncertainty, fear, despair... but above all HOPE that in the end everything will be ok.
I dont know why , but i feel the god power in this song everytime , feeling that God is near me and telling me everything will be okay , brings me shivers and send me tears My gosh !

There are too many people doing the same thing right now. Whenever somebody makes videos, films, or photographs about China, they are all like this. One of the famous movie makers in China named Jia Zhangke has been doing it for decades, if you're interested check it out.
For some reason after a few days of listening to this song it started to put tears into my eyes when the synth started. It’s a song that gives the feeling of HOPE and nothing else.
You are confusing emotions or feelings... it is not HOPE, the sensation is that of MELANCHOLY... I will use the words given on a lecture by a spritual medium : "Every human being senses an inner longing that goes deeper than the longings for emotional and creative fulfillment. This longing comes from sensing that another, more fulfilling state of consciousness and a larger capacity to experience life must exist.” Pathwork lecture 204

Have you ever experienced goosebumps come in waves...this what this song does to me. It also makes me think that everything will workout somehow because everything is important and nothing is at the same time.

@@raiduk You gotta watch that making video it gives me chills! especially the close up shot inside the car transitioning outside and running infront of the car!
This is a work of art, especially as a combination. The video and music works so well together. Can't even describe how much or how many different emotions I felt throughout the piece every time I experience it. Not just listen to it, I would use the word experience.
Those synth lead melodies toward the end are so good, especially with the fat bass synth droning underneath. IMO 2:58 onward is totally awesome. Sort of vaguely reminds me of the intro to that Orbital track "Belfast".
there was something so surreal about when this came out. The time. It seems to capture a unique vibe from then. The progressive beats and sound to the point where its right in your ear, gives this eery feeling of hope and love for that time. 2010-2014 ish. i graduated highschool in 2014 and not shortly after began finding more and more artists like this in electronic and dance etc... Future type music... one day i will be in my eighties and most likely hear this song and tear up.
The second half of this song makes me feel like my mind has all become clear and that everything is starting to make sense and fall into place. Great song and incredible video.
Jamie x: So, ill need about 5 albino models, a blue Subaru and about 10,000 Asian kids to chase them through dystopian Paris. Management: ...you got it, Jamie
i can remember when i first come across this music i ended using it for a show in high school where i was teaching as opening salvo..how the kids came up with the dance choreography and the nostalgia it evoked by then was amazing i was close to tears in how beautiful this song created that moment.
I feel this exact same way. It truly is remarkable and I am so glad we have all rejoiced here in this moment. I wholeheartedly provide that same universality back to you, my friend. Thank you so much, from the bottom of my soul. May God bless you and humanity with eternal love. And to that, I give you much love in return.
What an absolute tune! Just discovered this and immediately took me back to burning around in my first car (early 90s) with my mates listening to drum and base cassette tapes with the MCs giving it the 'Oh My Gosh'! Then the whole sublime tune built around it, this will be a permanent addition to my playlists
This is such a powerful piece. I get the chills and it feels so triumphant towards the end. I close my eyes and feel myself rise out of whatever negativity I'm feeling. So much power.
"We have come to the conclusion that the people of the early 21st century liked cars, sleeping and walking around in circles around strange monuments."
I heard this visceral piece for the first time on the plane. In that moment, when the synths came in, I felt like I had finally reconciled with the clouds above me, with the universe, with heaven, and with God. I wish I could experience this piece for the first time again. It has a phenomenal, reletentlessly triumphant level of sublimity that I cannot begin to comprehend - one that fills me with emotions that help me see the major events in our world on the horizon, with the knowledge that eventually, we will all be okay.
I'm here because a documentary on Netflix called "High: Confessions of an Ibiza Drug Mule" didn't watch the film just a clip and heard this song and had to walk to the depths of hell just to find it. It's crazy the things you do for love. We just met and I am already falling head over heels. This song was part of my destiny. It was already written. We just had to play out our parts.
I just found this song like a week before i knew i was going to see them live on a Music Festival. It’s nice how life throws you good music and gives you right away the experience to enjoy it LIVE ✨
If anyone else was curious about the filming location, it's Tianducheng (Sky City), a Paris-themed community in Hangzhou, China. The tower in the center is a 1:3 scale replica of the Eiffel Tower. Also, if you haven't seen it yet, look for this song's second official music video. It's great too. If you see Mars near the start, you found the right one.
That's cool, I just seriously wish all countries would just create their own thing instead of mimicking others. You be you I guess is what I'm saying, starting to finally see that with China in some ways but universally its not a competition, we are all on limited time.

I remember Jamie playing this at Falls Festival 2014, some 4-5 months before it got a release. Standing on the hill looking down at the stage with my girlfriend at the time, peaking my head off, almost in tears just in awe of how good it sounded, that bass vibrating through my chest. Good memories lol
I found this video the day I broke up with my ex, this video healed so much for me man. She was in Paris at the time, enjoy the eifel tower now you stupid bitch.
I dunno why. But every single time I watch this video I start feeling so overwhelmed when the kids first surround him and they cut to his face and the look in his eyes makes me literally cry like I can feel what he was feeling in that moment. Its better than any drug has ever made me feel. I’ve chased many highs trying to achieve what I found watching this video.
Ran to his set at coachella to hear at least ten minutes of his set and he ended it by playing this song. Hearing this live was so rewarding. I am now a fan
this tune is made for people like me when they are down, cant sleep, have night terrors, cant focus and suicidal and just brings the energy back to fight.
The first half of the song is: Courage, Fight and War. The second half of the song is: Hope, Peace and Triumph. For me is the most perfect song of the last Decade.
@@goh02 100% even the video is very clever to me . The way I perceive it is the guy is alone and down but his friends feel the similar way without each other knowing, have their own demons. They are all in white to show they are like guardian angels and show him the way to realise that there is support of many surrounding him. He feels like nothing but is actually something special to many 🥲

The director of this video said ultimately it is about a young man starting to wake up spiritually while everyone around him, and society remains asleep. The end half is him leaving everyone behind him as he begins to embark on a new journey. The blonde look alike children represent the universe supporting him and his journey, and is sort of like a send off. Probably the most beautiful video ive ever seen.
When this video came out I was dating a girl from Paris, our relationship fell apart while she studied abroad in China and the haunted vibes in a replica of Paris in this video matched my feelings perfectly
I've been listening to this song for years with my wife and it still puts us in a world of its own with an atmospheric dynamic that cant be explained. And the video is a work of art that underlines this atmosphere. THANK YOU!
For those who have not understood anything in the meaning of this clip. In many countries in sub-Saharan Africa, people with albinism are regularly victims of homicide, they are targets of ritual killings. i lived in africa for 4 years, the population rejects albinism. The number of person albinism that I could meet in the street unemployed proves that they are rejected by the population. I am very proud to see artists defending abinism. They are people like you and me. I hope this clip will change the mentalitys for the liberty for equality
Still in 2018 the world is still focusing on superficial layers of flesh colour, rather than emotions, or skills. Defend those who are rejected for being not same as the crowds.
Just because you lived there doesn't mean you get it. I'm guessing you're white and not actually African, and I'm also guessing you haven't lived in the sub-saharan part because you seem to think Africa is a country, like whites tend to do lmao. They don't "reject" albinism. This artist isn't "defending" albinism either. They're more fetishizing than anything else... know the difference, fool...
How cool another post calling others fools. Keep your cursing to yourself. If you think there is a hint that shows that Africa is mentioned as a country, look through again. I have had friends that have been rejected by whites and friends that have been rejected by blacks. This thing with superficial layers of flesh colour has been holding progress of the world back, for way too long. My post was a comment to GAB RU, to whom my reply to is, rather than the video. GAB RU has mentioned a fact: people with albinism are regularly victims of homicide. If you relate my reply and focus more, probably then you will relate my reply to the subject of discussion rather to the viedo itself. So please pay attention before calling others fools. Have a good day.
modus pwnens : you guessing wrong about me and i have nothing to prove to you. I'm just here to say a fact, whether you like it or not, so thank you for keeping your comments presumptuous for you, and thanks to pay attention before calling others fools it is not a comment of a person hidden behind his computer that will make me forget something that I could see there, especially in sub-Saharan area
It's a "piece" of "music" there is no singing involved. That's why the term "piece of music" was invented. Folks on classical stations often refer to them simply as a "piece" This is a good example of the difference between song and music
I wonder why they all left instead of helping build the place better and this video is trippy af i wonder if it was made to chill out n jam to it or if its part of meditating video or something like that matter anyone know what the purpose of it is?
Many small investors put their money into projects like this city with the hope of great profits. Either they run out of money halfway through or, when finished, rents are too high for anyone to afford, so these everyday people usually end up losing their money.

I love the whole song but my favorite part has to be between minutes 1:51 and 2:26 when they get into the blue car. The music there is just...so calm and serene. A one-hour-mix of that would be awesome.
*Dazzed Digital:* _Was there an initial idea for the video itself?_ *Romain Gavras:* _There’s different ways of explaining it. One way of explaining it could be like a white guy that is actually black - it starts in a purple room, and then he drives a blue car in a grey environment, and he’s surrounded by kids with black shoes and yellow hair. It could be said like that. But also, in my head, it was almost a process. It came about when I saw the pictures of the fake Paris in China. Everyone is talking about cultural appropriation and I was like, "That thing is the most insane fucking cultural appropriation." It’s almost like you don’t put it on a moral level - it’s not Iggy Azalea singing like a black woman, it’s fucking insane. It’s like a cultural appropriation vortex._ _I almost saw (the video) like a coming-of-age journey through a world where _*_cultural appropriation became so insane that you need spirituality in order to elevate (yourself) from something where culture makes no sense._*_ Somehow, _*_spirituality is where that kid (in the video) is going to find sense._*_ It’s like when you leave your friends, when you’re in high school, and then you’re going to go to the big town - that kind of coming-of-age type of narrative. And this why then they all circle him and he’s detaching himself from his other group of friends, and then he becomes his own prophet. But really, _*_he doesn’t elevate himself, it’s the camera that elevates_*_ - so it’s the old thing where he doesn’t change, it’s the perception that we have that changes. This was the intellectual process I had making it._
Yuri Sucupira I love that cultural appropriation vortex very apt. We’re already kind of at this point where things are so abstract as to be incoherent and you do need to elevate in order to overcome the utter oppression of it.
@@2shizz Quite the contrary, I think: we're all different in terms of e.g. culture, and a considerable amount of our self-identification comes from this attachment to such culture. ===== However, Internet and globalization cause everyone to culturally influence everyone, therefore e.g. non-Koreans get in touch with K-Pop videos (thanks to e.g. TH-cam, music streaming services et cetera) and then adopt the K-Pop clothing / fashion style, non-nordic peoples watch the TV series "Vikings" and suddenly everywhere in the world the Sidecut haircutting style becomes a fashion trend, a right-wing politician like Donald Trump is elected president and thanks to his actions in social medias and Internet coverage of his activities by the mainstream news websites (the French newspaper Le Monde, German newspaper Bild, El País from Spain, G1 in Brazil, BBC in the UK, Clarín in Argentina, et cetera), suddenly the whole world is aware of Trump's election and then a trend of right wing presidents (like e.g. in Brazil and Poland) begins. ===== Internet allows us to communicate with each other and learn about each other, our different languages, fashion preferences, religions et cetera, but it also causes us to influence each other and therefore gradually abandon some elements of our own culture while we simultaneously adhere to cultural elements of the others. ===== This is globalization: we gradually move from being a citizen of our countries to becoming a citizen of the world. Globalization incentives cultural appropriation and in a certain way we are enriched by it, but at the same time we're also impoverished of our own (local, regional, national) culture, too. ===== Maybe it's a good thing, or bad: only time will tell. But I think that despite of how one might judge such process, it's clear that it's happening and I believe that the director of the video above really wanted to address and illustrate it through the exposure of a "radical" example of cultural appropriation, hence his choice of filming the clip at such location: a cultural appropriation *materialized* as a whole Chinese city.
They were able to do it because it's kind of an empty complex with not a lot of regular residents. It's the "Sky City" in Tianducheng, China. They have many developments built and still being built to mimic the world's main attractions.
A song that touches you on an emotional level. It is interpreted different by a lot of people but what everyone can agree on is this track affected your emotions. Truly beautiful.

This song just makes me think about what it is to be human. It makes me think of those around me, and those that came before me, and idk why but this song helps me appreciate people I normally don’t give much thought to. Maybe when you slow down you can appreciate things you normally wouldn’t, and this song helps me with that.

I will use the words given on a lecture by a spritual medium :
"Every human being senses an inner longing that goes deeper than the longings for emotional and creative fulfillment. This longing comes from sensing that another, more fulfilling state of consciousness and a larger capacity to experience life must exist.”

This piece of music echoes throughout the universe when a big moment has arisen upon the horizon for humanity and earth at large. May us all rejoice during this sublime, visceral and remarkable experience - one of enlightenment, fulfillment and reletentless triumph. May God bless you all, my friends, in this beautiful universe we call life. At the end, when all is said and done, we are together - and then we'll be okay, and all will be okay.

Those synth lead melodies toward the end are so good, especially with the fat bass synth droning underneath. IMO 2:58 onward is totally awesome.
Sort of vaguely reminds me of the intro to that Orbital track "Belfast".
That's because Jamie XX took inspiration from Orbital - Belfast for this track :D
@@zaephou2843 That makes SO much sense! Greatly explains the very emotional chords here too.
there was something so surreal about when this came out. I hope this clip will change the mentalitys
for the liberty
for equality
Really sad and disappointing fact...

*Dazzed Digital:* _Was there an initial idea for the video itself?_
*Romain Gavras:* _There’s different ways of explaining it. It’s like a cultural appropriation vortex._
_I almost saw (the video) like a coming-of-age journey through a world where _*_cultural appropriation became so insane that you need spirituality in order to elevate (yourself) from something where culture makes no sense._*_ Somehow, _*_spirituality is where that kid (in the video) is going to find sense._*_ It’s like when you leave your friends, when you’re in high school, and then you’re going to go to the big town - that kind of coming-of-age type of narrative.
@@jonc8074 Yup, pretty much.
I think it's to show we are all the same, it's just skin and hair colour
Yuri Sucupira I love that cultural appropriation vortex very apt. We’re already kind of at this point where things are so abstract as to be incoherent and you do need to elevate in order to overcome the utter oppression of it.
@@2shizz Quite the contrary, I think: we're all different in terms of e.g. culture, and a considerable amount of our self-identification comes from this attachment to such culture.
=====
However, Internet and globalization cause everyone to culturally influence everyone, therefore e.g. non-Koreans get in touch with K-Pop videos (thanks to e.g.
=====
Internet allows us to communicate with each other and learn about each other, our different languages, fashion preferences, religions et cetera, but it also causes us to influence each other and therefore gradually abandon some elements of our own culture while we simultaneously adhere to cultural elements of the others.
=====
This is globalization: we gradually move from being a citizen of our countries to becoming a citizen of the world. Globalization incentives cultural appropriation and in a certain way we are enriched by it, but at the same time we're also impoverished of our own (local, regional, national) culture, too.
=====
Maybe it's a good thing, or bad: only time will tell.
I think it's a MasterCard commercial
