    The only reason why I watercooled my system was 1)I always liked it visually, 2)quieter running, and 3)cooler temps. But, the price for cooling with a custom loop is expensive.

    • @allanwilmath8226

      So true!!! I think the power consumption on these newer parts are so high that open loop starts to make practical sense though. A custom CPU block can cost 150 bucks but that big fancy air cooler isn't cheap and many of those AIO are >200. More GPU's should come with water blocks already installed and more motherboards should come with mono blocks.

      I have a 3070Ti and would like to migrate it in an ITX custom loop with soft tubing setup.
      Reason is I have to travel every 2 weeks by plane for 2 hours.
      Is it a good idea to build a setup like this and is it safe to say a compact custom loop would be okay if I drain it before boarding the plane?

      @@MakemeSumMuffins if there is not much room for radiator support, you would probably be better off air-cooled because you need a lot of radiator space to dissipate the heat, and a fan to move it out of the system

    It is so nice having the thermal pads already cut to size and placed on the block!!! That alone makes the whole process so much nicer! Also, WTF EK? $50 extra for a backplate. So $185 + $50 = $235 for the EK block and you still have to waste time to cut and place all the thermal pads or $170 for the Corsair with a backplate included and thermal pads ready to go. I've always used EK in the past but I went with Corsair this time. EK needs to step up their game if they don't want to lose more customers in the future.

    I was surprised by how much power changes when watercooling. Didn't notice it too much with the 2080, but the 3090 ran at 44W in idle on air, and 38W on water, simply by running at 28° instead of 50..

      How many watts does the pump use?

    • @deidian635
      @deidian635 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Alex-qq1gm Normally 12 to 25W depending on how fast you run the pump. That's for DDC and D5, which are used in most cases. Though for a CPU + GPU block you can actually run the pump 50% speed and you'll have more than enough flow, so 18W or around that.
      Anyway both overclocking and water-cooling are basically over-engineering: so no one is looking for budget too much when they do it. They should know it's about getting the last 10-15% of performance in a silent and/or aesthetic manner even if it costs more than what you get out of the box. Just saying. Well, at least I do it being aware of this fact.

Then I launched something like FF XV, Borderlands 3 and so on, heard my a moment ago silent pc go "Vacuum cleaner of the 90s" rage mode(and I'm the person, who likes quiet environments with no sounds beside the ones, which are intended). The water block doesn't make much sense on a Strix 3070, since it shares the cooler that is designed for a 450W version of the 3090. That air cooler will have no problem keeping a 3070 very cool and staying quiet. I have an MSI Gaming X Trio 3070, and it runs in the low 50s under load with the fans set to 60%. Same situation, it's got the same cooler as the same model 3090. The water blocks make more sense on a 3080, and the most sense on a 3090. Now, if it was for a 3070 model that had a weak cooler out of the box, then that would also make sense.

    4 months late, still good content. I was impressed by the difference between stock and watercooled clocks by GPU boost only.
    The block didn't get the GPU into the high 40c range, but did well. FPS was the same, but with a minor overclock to get the temp somewhere around the mid or slightly higher 50c range might get some fps benefit without the stock temps.
    I wonder what the watt difference would be if you underclock the card back to stock gpu boost levels with the water block compared to the stock cooler would be.

My 2017 all-AMD processor rig with first gen Zen Ryzen R7-1700 Summit Ridge and last gen GCN5 Polaris 10 Vega 64 Greenland are a fine gaming match for my R1900 IPS 3440x1440 75Hz monitor. Good for another couple of years. By 2025, HDR ray-tracing AAA games may convince me to upgrade.
    I enjoy your cat's antics. I trained mine not to jump on me or on others or on food preparation surfaces at an early age with a water pistol. And dull those killer claws - my early trimming and filing became very easy later. Domestic cats don't need really sharp claws.

So running a custom loop can sure be beneficial, i ran the card with the big ass air-cooler that came along with it and temps were around 75C and the fans were were noisy compared to runnning all my 120 fans (10x) at 1000rpm.

    another comment : switched to gpu water cooling end of 2020, to sum it up : it works even better than cpu, one advantage you usually don't hear about is the way the temp drops instantly when not in use, an air cooled gpu once hot will cool very slowly and keep pumping out massive heat in your case, unless you have fans maxed, with water cooling it goes 40-50°C->28°C in 1-2 seconds (I do have 3x360mm rads heh) the backplate which is usually also boiling hot will be a good 10-20°C colder with WC, overall your PC case and room temperature will be noticeably colder and much quieter when gaming because a maxed out air cooled card (try borderlands 3 in ultra/badass) becomes very noisy

    I have to watercool my system for a reason that's rather unique. My motherboard has 6 PCIe slots (one x8 and rest x16), and I need all of them down to the last lane. If I were to drop normal GPU there with 2+ slots wide cooler (PCI-e card in next slot blocks fans, as it's full height/full length like a GPU too), I'd simply lose any practical value of that system. This is also why I am triggered every time I see a card with HDMI/Display Port/USB/DVI bumped into second row on IO bracket. Back in the day of multi-card setups being popular it was very important (For Quad-SLI you couldn't even have single network or sound card), and even now, when GPU computing (rendering!) is being more and more important, it's much much cheaper to watercool 7 cards than buy dedicated backplane (mining risers sometimes simply won't do).

    I was thinking about doing the same thing with my Nitro+ 5700XT, since I haven't been able to get a reference edition 6800 XT which I would put a waterblock on. But the air cooler keeps the junction temps below 105c peak gaming. I also have a Vega 64 w/Alphacool water block and it never got over 50c OC. But I did get more performance. The Nitro+ is OC already. I get a steady 2060 Mhz while gaming in the division 2. Kinda hard to justify vs. waiting for a new card to become available. It's not like it can't game 1440p\144hz. But I am going to build a "new" system out of my old parts and sell at least one. I'd just hate to part with my rx 480 Nitro+ 8Gb. I may just buy a 1050ti to put in it to sell. Although a 5600XT would be ok at MSRP but not the current pricing of +$100. Thanks for this I will wait for the reference editions to come back into stock. I waited a year after Vega launched to get mine, then 8 mos later I got the water block. The year after that RDNA, now I wait for RDNA 2, but RDNA 3 may be launched before RDNA 2 stock is fulfilled. Too much of our electronics are made in Asia, we need greater diversification of our manufacturing, like back to our home countries.

      @@dustinmock46 🤔 have not seen that one before either, it would be nice to know,
      I wonder if there is someone who has done a review of all the Programs like this to show how they affect performance too, cant seem to find one.

    Thanks for the review, 1 thing i'm wondering is what is a good water temperature during load. I've always tried to keep it under 35°c but i guess that won't be possible when i cool my 3080. (haven't got more room for an extra radiator)

    A water block on a 3070 model that is already nearly as expensive as a 3080. If that is what you care about, I guess.

  • @iamdmc
    @iamdmc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Corsair blocks are 'easy' but then again so are Phanteks blocks and they are FAR more reliable with a FAR better build quality. If you're spending $150+ on a water block it better have better manufacturing than the corsair block... unacceptable that the water flows around the channels rather than through them

  • @stevekalle6969
    @stevekalle6969 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dropped Corsair completely after many problems- 2 Commander Pro's literally fried themselves. And I went thru 3 pumps because the impeller would stick after PC being off for a few hours. Then the horrendous iCue software and 2 k60 keyboards not charging, k95 keys sticking, 2 mice that lost connection while I'm trying to shoot someone in Division 2. For 2080ti, I have Bitspower with 45 max @130% power and have Asus Ekwb 3090 with 45 max gpu and backplate only gets to 42 C (I have a thermistor stuck on it with a thermal pad).
    And Alphacool for msi x trio 6800xt with 9900k in same loop and gpu max 50 c. All of these are with 60-80 Lph pump speed. If I max the ek D5 speed, 2080ti maxes at 40 c.
    Something is very very wrong with those Corsair temps.
