Yeah you’re right it looked good at .75, maybe I’ll slow it down a bit on the next one, it’s difficult to edit the long videos so I kick it up to 6x and sometimes I just get used to it, so thanks for the feedback 👍
Looking really good.. Cut yourself a pathway in the foam for the tail light wiring, then foam over it again to protect it.. It will save a few holes in the frame for wire management.. It looks like the top of the trailer will fall right about the small of your back when on the bike. We found the perfect height to fall between 42" to 48" for the total measured from the ground.. The trailer also needs to flex a bit to prevent the body from cracking. Have you tested how it tracks yet?
Thanks Bryan, I’ve got some of that plastic tube with the slits for the wiring I’m probably going to put it somewhere a little higher up so It won’t get as wet or dirty hopefully, maybe mount it on the side so I can check them easily when needed. The piece of wood is just a mock up to get an idea, I’m still not sure how tall I’m going to go, if I should make it so I can sit up in it or not, I’ll think on it tomorrow because I’m putting a bed Inside and it will limit the height, so it may just be for laying down, I can always sit outside. I haven’t tested anything yet because I’m still waiting to finish it, so I don’t think it would be worth getting it dirty just yet, but I can adjust the tires in and out by loosening the axles, so I think it should be pretty easy, Tongue weight is gaining, I’ve got a lot more things to mount so it should get heavier soon. It definitely doesn’t flex much, the steel frame is rock solid, but the axles do flex a little, Hopefully slightly more when it’s loaded up and worn in. Question? Do you toe the tire in or out on a trailer like this? I have them slightly in at the moment, but it’s just a few wrench turns to adjust. Thanks for the in depth help
@@JMERCHRIDES Toe in. Toe out will result in some unpredictable towing behavior.. What do you think about externally mounting a 5 gallon container or two as a counter weights to adjust your final tongue weight?
I’m definitely going to do some sort of cargo container for weight distribution when I’m on the final stretch. I’m making progress today, getting started 5am lol. Today will be fun making this frame as ultralight as possible
@@JMERCHRIDES I know from experience, I built a personal welding trailer, and thought I would balance the weight between the axle and tongue. That way I could make it easy to move around by hand. Bad idea, it would skate on the road radically. I could not drive very fast without it walking all over the road. Long story short, make sure that tongue have most of the weight or you will be on a south texas death ride. Thats a good song too. 😆
Building a trailer great, but it is best if the axle is in the middle of the trailer to distribute the weight evenly making it much safer and to avoid speed wobble, many videos about this
Hey thanks for watching! I appreciate the feedback but Incase you’re considering making one yourself just be aware you have that backwards. It’s actually exactly where it needs to be, if it was halfway or more towards the bike than halfway it would be extremely dangerous and swerve all over the road. This particular setup gives me a good position, of course it’s not finished yet, but placement is key, I’ve done a good deal of research. Thanks Try looking up tongue weight, it explains it more
I hope that foam doesn't absorb water. If it does it will get heavy and eaven treated plywood will soften when in constant with moisture I'll keep my fingers crossed for you👍
It’s open cell foam it will absolutely absorb water like a sponge, I’m going to seal it as well as the entire exterior before I Finish. I’m not really going over a lot of stuff like that until the end just because the videos would take forever to edit, I’m just making it and at the end I’m going to go over all the details and what worked / didn’t work. It’s definitely a process, you’re dead on though, if left like that it would be horrible
Thanks Matt! I’m get excited about possibly being able to make a “living” off my videos someday, that would be so cool. I ended up using 4 cans total, not bad at all and just a couple lbs added so it’s a good option that adds a bit of comfort to the base while sleeping. It does still need to be sealed though
16 lbs last I checked, it will be perfect when I’m done 👍 I’m going to talk about all the specs at the end but this bike is a beast. 1245 curb weight max, that’s with the stock shocks... But I upgraded them to stiffer ones and took about 150lbs off the bike so I’m realizing I have a lot of extra weight to play with
Bro I sure hope you have alot of seat time because this Frankenstein monster of a trailer is gonna be HEEEEAAAAVVVVY. I am just hoping you know how to ride with a trailer before this one because it's going to change the way your bike rides and handles ... be safe brother. #CANCERSUCKS
So far it sounds like he's headed for less than 250 lbs dry weight. Towing a well balanced trailer feels almost exactly the same as riding 2 up does. Windage is something keep in mind. A good crosswind gets your attention real fast..
If I didn’t have you guys watching out for me while building this I’d be in a world of trouble Josh 👍 thanks for the heads up, I’ve been trying to be as cautious as possible during this build keeping weight as the top priority. You’re dead on Josh, I do love a lot of seat time, I usually never ride less than 200miles every time I go out , but making sure it handles ok is very important. Thanks for looking out ✌️
I’m probably going to keep it lower than I was thinking because of the crosswind, taller just won’t be a good thing in any scenario and I do spend most time laying down in bed lol 😂
@@JMERCHRIDES Sorry for the Dad in me coming out, but it seems like you have it under control.. your right lower center of gravity and slanted walls to prevent them turning into wind dams for possible un wanted wear on power train is the way to go , just be safe and enjoy the experience my friend.. #CANCERSUCKS
It handled great honestly, the torsion axles and the long tongue make them look further back than in actuality. But in the end I was going off of tongue weight, which is the important thing. But this thing wouldn’t even budge on the Highway at 75mph, lots of folks have lots of suggestions on how they would’ve done it, but for my first one I was very happy with how this came out. Had a blast on that trip
***PT. 4 coming soon*** 🤙
Lookin great man 👍 Nice use of the bed frame MERCH. Thanks for letting us peak in on ya. ✌✌
Thanks Kevin, I like to reuse stuff if I can, have a great day ✌️✌️

Ok cool, thanks, I was thinking heavy stuff forward to get a tongue weight of 25-30 lbs to be safe.
It's looking good I can't cut a straight line eaven with a circ.saw
