Oh yeah it’s getting sealed up when I’m all done, I’m going to flex seal the entire outside of this thing when I’m all finished building it, I just wanna wait until I’m done so it’s like the last step you know? Hopefully they have different colors. The foam on the bottom is open cell and will suck up water and rot everywhere if unsealed. Flex seal 😂 never thought I’d use it
@@JMERCHRIDES oh...open cell is even worse. I figured it was closed. Anyway, flex seal or something like that will be perfect. It will seal that whole thing up watertight. I like the aluminium much better than the heavy bed frame too. See ya on the next one.
That sucker is going to be light... Don't forget the butyl tape around door and window frames.. Test a little rubberized undercoating on your foam to see how it reacts.
With a 100lb battery and my stuff it will be much heavier but currently 17lb Tongue weight. Aerosols usually melt spray foam so I’m going to use a big can of flex seal, it works really well. I’ve got all kind of butyl tape here from putting in vents and stuff so I think things will be ok. I’m going to have to leave the little wood heater behind and go with a candle heater, it should be perfect for that small space. It’s too heavy and will just be a problem. I’m goo PO I go to try and make the edges and sides like a raindrop, rounded in front and on the sides and sloped down towards the back. The front compartment will be covered and rounded as well. At least that’s the plan so far
Yes I do, I’m going to be curving the back end like a tear drop trailer and curving the front and sides a bit as well, I’m not sure how much I can actually curve it but i hope it will be better than a plain square. I’m trying to make sure it’s solid enough then I’ll bend those aluminum bars in to attach to the solar panel, making everything secure. Then I’m going to cut foam slices and make a curved shaped cabin. At least that’s what I’m thinking. Really good question
@@JMERCHRIDES That’s a sound plan J. Really impressive work in such a short time! Really enjoy watching these. Love seeing someone take an idea and fabricate it into being. Save a spot for Gourdo 😆
How much do you think this weighs at this point ? Just curious about weight and I was reading comments as well as your replies to them before I was going to point out the huge wind dam the front was going to be but I read your addressing it with a rounded bend of the aluminum frame 👍, have you thought about a sloped nose that would not only cut wind but weight as well, it can open as a hatch as well make more room for head or foot space? I hope you don't get offended by my suggestions I'm just enjoying your videos and have some experience with this subject.. looking forward to the next video as well as the completion of the project.. I will suggest you put your nose together and take it for a spin then if your not happy with the resistance it delivers you can change before you complete the process completely?? #CANCERSUCKS
No offense taken, it’s great bouncing ideas off everyone. I haven’t gone into detail much because I’m still tweaking and making adjustments constantly. Reconsidering old plans on the daily. Right now it’s probably 130 or so lbs but that’s just a rough guess, I need to weigh it, tongue weight is 17lbs. I’m most definitely going to round all edges , I Just using the strapping for a skeleton, it will be bent inward to attach to the solar panel (also aluminum frame) and from there I’ll cut slits of foam and stray foam the cracks. Then a few more straps to make things more stable and an outside layer of flex seal to make it water tight. I have to put ventilation in, but I think it’s pretty easy. The heaviest thing will be my battery which can very easily just be mounted anywhere underneath or wherever I feel like, it depends on the tongue weight so that’s going on last since it’s HEAVY. It’s the final weight, like balancing a tire, everything else is feathers compared to that, that’s why I keep saying I’m not concerned with the tongue weight because it will be very balanced. I’m excited for all the help from you guys, it makes things interesting and much more fun. I like to brainstorm things often and I hope this turns out ok, but if not all I need to do is just reduce the profile a bit, it will be a lot of local towing before I set sail. Thanks for the support and the feedback josh ✌️ I’m definitely doing a sloped front compartment for my components too
@@JMERCHRIDES I'm sure when it's all said and done you'll be able to cross-country it, your Trial and error will give you plenty of memories and stories to tell the kids about. Haha.. I know that foam underneath is pretty much closed cell, but do you think its gonna hold any moisture?

I took your advice, 4x speed this time, you’re right, it’s much better. Good call dude ✌️

Awesomeness. Do you have any worries about wind resistance?
