    For quite a while I’ve needed to sort my lawn out, but didn’t have the knowledge or confidence that I could do it, as I’ve neglected it, apart from mowing, for a number of years. So pleased I found your video. I found your description very informative and I now feel I have the confidence to crack on even if I haven’t got all the tools you use I only have a small lawn, and you mentioned that you used to do most of this by hand! I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks again for this very informative video

    As a man struggling with his lawn, this is the best thing I've ever seen on the Internet. You Sir are an artist and I think I love you, not in that way, in the way a man has a love for a fine Cuban cigar, or a traditionally brewed cider on a hot summers day. If there is a God your place in heaven is reserved (although I suspect he is going to ask you to sort his lawn out).

    • @LawnRight

      @@LawnRight Sir, my greatest wish in this world is to sit in a pub and talk lawns. My "friends" think what they have been up to and the cost of living is the be all and end all of life. I have just purchased everything I need to hopefully pull my lawn back from the brink…the main one being an *ldi lawn scarifier/ aerator. Slightly confused here as it doesn’t appear from the look of the blade to be much of an aerator , more of a power rake and scarifier (comes with two different blades) . I am still thinking that I need to properly aerate the lawn as I need to seed it well due to bare patches? Will manually drill holes as I do not think the machine itself will be enough for new seeding🤞

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brianp7022 hi Brian, yes you're correct it's not an aerator. Several Manufacturers say they are when they aren't. If you use the thin metal spikes enough times you'll work down through the thatch layer and eventually put grooves in the soil for seed. The blades may be slitters which put deep slits in.. but try it on an inconspicuous area first! You fan always fork these spots to aerate them if needed

    • @brianp7022
      @brianp7022 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well just a quick update…my lawn was awful, only 60sqm but a whole wheelie bin full of moss 😂 the worst affected area after scarification was almost all soil as it was that bad ….has come back the lushest ! just a few stubborn patches now but I’ve got the bug now so it will be a real achievement to see the whole lawn in good shape. It’s taken two months but no real drama …only used a general sports seed and fertiliser. I have also used a liquid feed every few weeks. There appears to be some large blades of grass which I assume are couch? (Wide blades) I will rip these out as they are only small spots…
      Incidentally is there any product I could use to save my grass from dying when my dog urinates? I’ve seen products online and it’s hard to change my dogs habits😂

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brianp7022 hi congrats on the achievement! Loads of watering after the dogs weed I'm afraid usually first one of the day is the strongest wee.. you can train them to use one spot takes a while but doable unfortunately

      Hi Adam thanks for the kind words... here to help. If you're just talking about watering in general say in summer then its better to water 1 to 2 times a week deeply than daily as that can lead to disease and weaker lawns.. with infrequent watering the roots have to hunt for moisture.. pushing down.. creating a stronger plant

    Great job - this gave me the confidence to have a go on my own gackgarden patch of grass myself (mostly moss and grass as it's never been tended to). Overall really good results, although it does look like a Swiss cheese in that there's circular shaped bare patches (not enough seed and/or top dressing I assume), so will take a other look at it in the autumn. I’ve a similar lawn, neglected for 2-3yrs when house was not inhabited, with more moss than grass, been following your guide and hopefully will fix the lawn before winter comes.

    Great reminder to me of how to renovate a lawn. Can you give me any idea of what I should charge per sq yard to renovate a lawn in Ireland. I find it hard to price.
    Thanks

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say to be honest as all companies charge different .. a 30 sq metre lawn may only take 2 hours.. if you're needing 2 hours labour plus materials you can imagine it's at least £50 for materials then labour costs at 2 hours. To be safe allocate a full days earnings for a job that will hopefully take half a day .

    Got a lot of moss on my lawn. I thought it was weird coz it's on slope so drainage in ok. Lawn isn't flat, it's got a convex to it. I had suspicion that perhaps something going on under lawn. This was backed up by me finding lovely bits of dressed sandstone around garden. My house is 1920s but houses at back of mine are 60s. I think there is demolition rubble under lawn. The missus wanted to mini digger the garden flat, but I said u may not like what we find. I think some large victorian properties were demolished in my are in 60s when these lovely buildings weren't thought highly of.

    Thank you for these great videos, I am learning such alot from them. One thing I can't get my head around is if you hollow tine aerate then put grass seed down the seeds that fall down the holes will not germinate as if they are 2 inches down the hole they will not survive. Should we not be putting topdressing down the holes first then seeding?
    Would buying a lawn sweeper not be the best approach for removing the cores intact as apposed to raking or blowing them into piles. Would love to see a video on a lawn sweeper and what guy doesn't love buying new tools. Keep up the great content. 👍

    it's like my lawn! new house build, and the soil under the lawn is just garbage fill from the builder...just rocks and compacted stuff. got myself a scarifier from lidl :) , but got scared quite fast as it seems to completely "plow" (like in this video at 4:09 )and destroy everything even on the smallest setting

    • @LawnRight
      @LawnRight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi are you absolutely sure 100% your not on the lowest deepest setting? It's an easy mistake to make if so.. needs to be on a higher setting initially and see how much is taken out. Other tha that it may be you scarified in a shady mossy area where is very weak and easily comed out.. leaving almost pure soil.. that's ok too and necessary then would need a bit of reseeding
