I bought an Ex demo a couple of weeks ago, I had a test drive on 2 separate occasions, I have to say the noise mentioned in the reviews made me test it twice, very happy with it though and having driven it on several. 440 miles round trips in the last 2 weeks and several 90 mile journeys, the fuel economy is brilliant, I've seen 60mpg on my last 90 mile drive driven normally on the A41 to Chester. The noise is there if pushed but it's not a constant intrusion and you do get used to it and it helps if you try to understand why it's making the noise, I've had Merc E class, bmw 5 series, Audi A6 and. Volvo XC90 and V90 and actually think this is my favourite car, with an eye on fuel prices and comfort this is definitely a worthwhile car to consider, plus it looks lovely. Great review as always, I did look for a review by Matt before buying tbf.
Agreed The HRV is a really nice car to drive, and I have also driven the top end German cars as well as two Kias. The noise mentioned is only when you’re hard accelerating, otherwise very relaxed. Motorway driving is the same as any most modern cars. The flexibility in the seats is great.
@@krapeevids6992 UK has always been MPH it was actually a English mathematician named Charles Babbage who invented MPH so probably why we have always used that system in the UK
From Australia Agree - Having owned from new Mercedes - BMW - VW as well as many other brands. I drove the Hybrid and was very happy with it. It’s not a prestige car - it’s not expensive- I won’t have to sell a kidney to service it - I won’t worry that it will throw a leg out of bed and lunch something that will cost more than what the car is worth - I’m over paying a fortune for Euro’s then getting bugger all as a trade - The motor industry is at the beginning of huge change toward EV and/or Hydrogen. I just see this car as a practical, cheap and risk free transitional car.
Appreciate how you go so quickly to rear seating - legroom, hardness, roof height. It's become just about the top factor in our decisions about cars due to our use patterns
Yep. I love sports cars and obsessing over lines and looks and engines but for cars that are functional, I love how straight to the point these videos are
First time I've seen it I though it's a facelift of the previous generation Hyundai Tucson, the resemblance is striking. Anyway good looking car, and very good price for a Hybrid SUV. I feel like the consumption is what makes this stand out from its competitors, and that is becoming more and more relevant with these gas prices.
I ordered this car after a test drive. Major flaw is the useless middle seat in the back, other than that it is brilliant. Not for people who constantly hammer the pedal, though. For people who like cruising and who like to set new fuel economy records without being really slow.
Does it lack power? In the Continental Europe(oustide of UK) it's only offered with 131HP.I would like to know does it struggle a lot to gain speed,or does it truggle on some ascending roads?
@@lukabaresic520 Same here in Australia , they offer two choices the 1,5 L vvt with 83 kw and the hybrid model (same in the video I think), I wonder the base model having enough power to do the job, also it offers 4 seats only, for 37000 aud for the base model I can get a CX 30 with more safe features as standard and higher power engine
@@dyu999 Sorry man. You cant get a lot of power and fuel economy at the same time. BTW, I dont think this car have any issue about accelerating unless five, 100kg people in the car with full filled trunk 😃
I saw one of these on the road last week and had to do a double take, I think its one of the best looking front ends of any new regular car. Surprised at the brake and suspension noise, and also at the 0-60 time - impressive!
Agree. And, I have a similar kind of problem with my car's brakes too. It squeaks for the first couple kilometres, till the brakes warm up . But hey, I'm okay with that. It's 100k kms, and everything is as good as new.
How to make a carwow hybrid review: 1. Complain about regenerative brake noises 2. Complain about CVT gearbox sound 3. Throw the boot accessories on the ground and scratch them up before giving the car back to whomever gave it. And there you go!
I ordered a pearl white, Honda HR-V 1.5 eHEV Advance 5dr CVT Hybrid Hatchback on 24/05/22, due in November for delivery, im looking forward to it after this review, it drove well and quality build
@@samirav1137 Read my comment, the younger dynamic buy with their eyes first. Many people see Honda as bland and dull. As for the aestethics, its up there with the competition..
Oh for sure especially with that modern touch screen. I’m 19 and recently got my provisional license and have been looking at cars, right now this is the one I’m looking at the most
I live in Malaysia and I'm picking up my new HRV-E 1.5 Turbo today. Petrol not a hybrid. We are able to choose from 4 different models here. Mine is white and has black grill plus getting full leather seats. I loved the handling of it when test driving it.
I have a 19-reg Honda Jazz Sport CVT (130ps) and 0-60mph is 8.67secs (brochure quotes 10.1s) and last week with a light right foot it was showing 57mpg (at least 12mpg better the Ford Fiesta auto I previously had). Luggage capacity is 354L seats up and 1314L seats down. It makes noise under full acceleration, but any non-turbocharged vehicle is the same, the Fiesta made a lot of noise and 0-60 was 13.9secs.
Loved the car so bought it...1 month in its brilliant and 53 per gallon so far...very quiet the so called noise some mention is no where near as loud as they say on some reviews unless your after 8 seconds 0.60 times! driven properly it doesn't happen its very quiet, and such an easy drive, Great car and a great replacement to our old Kia Sportage.
I could swear Mat was once locked in the boot of a car as some sort of prank as a kid and since then he has vowed to make all boot finishings part of his theraputic recovery process! 😆
The honda immd hybrid system, now on the 1.5 l class (before it was only 2.0 l on the accord) has a similar working to the nissan e-power. The engine acts as a generator most of the time, leaving 1 motor to drive the wheels. However on a highway cruise, unlike Nissan, the engine is able to direct drive to the wheels without any electric interference (except trickle charging maybe)
Sounds similar to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV I have, no gearbox at all but it can directly couple the engine to the wheels, usually only when the battery is depleted.
Honda is making all the right moves with their new designs. And other manufacturers can learn a lot from the interior controls. Physical knobs are best for volume and HVAC.
I saw people slating this car for the economy figures saying "my old jazz will do 50mpg" but I think when you consider all the extra tech, safety and weight I think getting close to 60mpg for a car like this is very impressive. Might not be best in class in certain ways but i'd buy it simply because its a honda. The Toyatas and Lexus competitors are way more expensive... getting a new honda for 28k with this level of tech I think is a no brainer personally.
It has a very musculine stand and looks a bit like a Volvo XC40 from the front. Love it! Finally the asian manufacturer are going more towards a modern, European way (without the unreliability of most)
I test drove many cars but this is the one i ordered, this car oozes with so much quality you can immediately realize it just by only closing the doors. And to those comparing Honda with other cars, just name another Japanese or Korean car company that makes its cars in Japan or Korea and exports to the european market instead of making them in Europe. I think we all know what does Made in Japan means.
I remembered why I kept watching videos in here all the time ,Mat was always funny ,changes your mood with his smile and brightens your day ,glad to see he's still in business ,
I took a test drive with this car a few days ago. Overall I really liked it. Good looking, good quality feeling, good consumption, good storage (for its size), good price. But I could not find a good driving position. I'm 183cm tall and whatever I did the steering wheel was either too far away, or the pedals was too close. Had the same issue in Volvo XC40. The infotainment is OK. I also noticed the break noise. Felt low quality. The hybrid system is interesting. Driving in a parking area it used only battery and run quiet. When the engine decided to start it was very smooth and quiet. However in a highway it was kinda noisy. But not too noisy to be an issue.
Try the new Qashqai. I test drove that, Rav4, XC40 and this. Interior quality is the best. Engine is quiet. Driving was a bit more enjoyable in the XC40, but overall I liked the Nissan the best. Oh, and I'm 196cm tall.
I bought the new HRV through Carwow back in December. Really really excited and can't wait but I'm still waiting on delivery! This semi-conductor shortage and whatever other supply chain impacts are happening are no joke.
@@seppebraeckman2429 Already? I thought they had just partnered with sony to make electric cars, or is that for the future and this is something they have been making themselves?
It's a definite improvement on the previous model. The exterior is beautifully crisp, clean and simple. The interior is unfortunately, a bit average, but then I'm a Peugeot 3008 driver and am spoiled by the amazing interior design. I'm very fussy about interiors being at least as good as exteriors.
I am a big fan of Honda. Still using 2nd gen CRZ for the past 9 years without any overhaul and hybrid battery still intact. My car just touched 420k km mileage and still awesome. It is different between CBU from Japan and local assembly CKD
Test driven Kia Sportage, Lexus UX, Kia Niro , Toyota Yaris - the HONDA HRV was the best drive for me at 6ft 2 . Comfy seats & handled really well & was brisk around town. Most of my journeys. Coming from E class so speed not important. This HRV could be the one . As an old fart I like the simple controls AC dash layout. Plenty of Honda deals currently. Insurance is is expensive as an EV sadly. No lumbar on Elegance is a negative , but seats are comfy . Another test drive needed
Was ready to buy it - only really let down by the engine noise. Fine round town but if you want to make brisk progress the CVT gearbox will annoy you. Shame you didn’t mention the paddles are nothing to do with the gearbox but very clever progressive battery regeneration. Hardly needed the brakes on my test run which was a brilliant feature which you unfortunately omitted.
I would definitely buy this right off the rip, 60+ mpg?? Really? That’s impressive. With less than 200hp it’s perfect for the Mrs. “less speeding tickets in the household”. Very simple, practical, perfect blend of tech and the price hits home perfectly. Definitely a go ahead and buy.
Meanwhile I literally bought it for the wireless charger in the RS model. Such a shame I couldn't find any other affordable options with this feature. Love the design, comfort and simplicity.
Since I'm in the States this channel is a new one for me, we still don't have this newer HRV there! And the old style is pretty much dead here, people buy it and later hate it. However I really want to comment on this AMAZING REVIEW. This is so much better than other reviews I've seen, not timid and just tells it like it is. As for the mystery 8.7 seconds, I've also seen wide variability in 0-60 scores for the Corolla Cross, just released here, but mostly unavailable due to shortages.
I'm ok with the CVT gearbox - once you're used to it you appreciate its benefits. But I don't like the HRV overall because of the crappy boot size and for the crappy interior practicality. which is a shame because the magic seats are awesome.
Also I think European models for these cars are a bit boring for Reliability and sorts. But the JDM model of HRV we get is called Vezel and it has DCT gearbox, Alcantara seats and stuff. We had the hybrid Vezel since 2014 and only now they rolled it out to the Western Hemisphere.
@@sandersson2813 Nope the JDM version we had some reliability issues. 2014 Vezel Hybrid with the DCT, had some major DCT issues which even led to replacing the whole gearbox. Issue was mostly noticed in cars which drove in high traffic areas which led to lots of wear and tear in the DCT. But by 2015 they fixed it by increasing the hybrid battery size and involving more electric motor in these lower speed stop and go instances.
I got used to it in a Jazz (Honda Fit). Very smooth. Very relaxing….prev had a VW with complicated “lumpy” DSG transmission….I actually prefer Hondas CVT. works better in modest snow too.
2 days ago, HRV was launched in Indonesia and has been ordered by 12 hundreds customers in just a day because in here, dealers and spareparts are everywhere. But you may get annoyed with panoramic cover opened manually by hands. I have been waiting eHEV to enter this country but instead it was only equipped with 1.5 NA and 1.5 turbo.
Thanks for sharing. That's what I'm afraid of, that reviewers gets so caught up with newest, fastest, luxurious vehicles, sometimes lose touch with great vehicles that normal people want and need as well as affordable seem to not get fairly reviewed from a person that buy these. Mainly because they mentally compare to the top most expensive to what they see in normal consumer vehicles...it's that what F1 racing world champion 🏆 Max did commercials with? I was told he liked it, just as how he loved his Civic type R, and enjoy experience with first and second generation NSX.
I am in love with this car. My car recently started giving me problems and even though i have spent a lot on it i am still at square one. Not able to afford another car now but this car is a dream car. I love it. Would love it in sliver, grey, black or Red.
A family member who bought one of these cars now regrets doing so, engine revs it's head off (noise very bad) on slight incline, mpg lowest 43-53mpg average. I am now cancelling my order after waiting 9 months not as good as drive as people make out. Also normal motorway driving revs it's head off even when battery is full it does not switch over to EV
@@sandersson2813 it's still a larger vehicle, with 2 electric motors making it quite heavy. I'm from the UK btw. Just because these glorified big hatchbacks are common doesn't change they're still fundamentally quite large. I wouldn't say it's MPG is extremely good as the OP, but it is definitely respectable
@@ibrahimkhwaja4826 I agree, the mog is adequate, bit its not amazing. Im presuming the OP was American where they dont have an incentive to have high MPG.
Why is US getting a different HRV model vs the rest of the world. Or is it just a different version of this HRV/Vezel. Besides, I assume that the model in the review would do just fine in the US.
The US may be a year behind but eventually, we are getting the same HRV. All Honda SUVs (even Acuras) will be have a similar design language.... eventually
On the topic of why there are still cars with manual releases for the fuel filler cap. I just had to change the entire lock mechanism on my 7 year old golf because it had worn out. So perhaps they have just determined that the MASSIVE (not really) inconvenience of pulling a lever when you stop at the pump is superior to adding complexity and the inevitable costly changing of something that is not going to last the life of the car.... It's the difference between cars made to last and cars made to be nice until the warranty is gone, then fleece them on the extra maintenance costs.
The ratchet thing for EU cars is for when they have to fit a power reclining seatback. What they do is just attach an electric motor to the recliner torsion bar and that's it. For the manual version they remove the motor and you get the knob.
I’m in love with this car and heartbroken I can’t get this in the U.S. I’m anxiously waiting for the drop on April 4th and I pray they didn’t make too many changes! I’d love to see a panoramic sunroof and a larger display inside possibly! But it’s beautiful as is! Absolutely stunning SUV!
Wow finally Honda is stepping up their design. Hyundai/Kia was mopping the floor with Japanese brands for a few years so far. I really liked that colored Grill, and the coupe style. An all around great looking car. On another note tho, car makers please stop making cars that don't fully roll down the windows. It's so frustrating.
This is what I don’t get about SUVs. They create significantly more emissions on average, are less efficient, and do more damage to the roads compared to other types. And often, their boot capacity (e.g this honda hrv) is not any better than a hatchback and the head room is only a bit better. If you want more space, get an estate, and if you want 3 people in the back get a van.
The last HR-V was incredibly underwhelming. The least Honda like Honda I had ever driven. Drove my gf to a Kia which has been amazing. As such it has a lot of ground to catch up.
I've heard so many complaints of the last version. I currently drive the hybrid 7 speed DCT Vezel version (Malaysia Built) and it's wicked...0-100 in 8.12 seconds and handling is sharp and fun.
No CVT here, the engine has a direct connection to the front wheels on constant highway speeds (clutch). They actually tried to make the engine noise inline with the speed/acceleration but since it needs to supply a lot of current to the electric engine (through the generator), it has to high rev which make it noisy.
I drove a 2022 Honda HR-V hybrid for my road trip from San Francisco to Yellowstone National Park. I drove over 2100 miles and I average 32MPG for my trip. What I like: camping mode works like wonder when I sleep in it in camping ground when temperature was around 30 degree. It was comfortable to sleep inside while the engine is keeping the temperature around 75 degree. Well equipment with technology: lane centering, blind spot monitor, power seat for both driver and passenger seats, moon roof, Adaptive Cruise Control. What I don’t like: 32MPG is low for a hybrid vehicle. Lane centering is not reliable. Seat is very uncomfortable. It is the worst seat I have tried ever.
Love your videos! But if i can suggest something it would be to add km/h aswell as mph so your international viewers can understand. The second thing would be to get a traffic light for the dragraces, i often see the difference in the start when the countdown begins and i thinking it would be easier for everyone just to check the light.
Britain's a really weird place when it comes to units. Speed in mph, fuel economy in miles/gallon, cargo capacity in litres (too small of a unit for cargo capacity), they weigh cars in kilos but weigh people in stones like they're cavemen.
Love that front grill and isn't that rear seat ingenious? It means you could probably get a bike in the back and do the dump run in it?? And because it's a Honda it shouldn't break down afterwards
We were looking for a new car for my wife and she really loved the looks of the new HR-V. I'm also a former Honda owner and I'm all for the japanese reliability so I recommended Honda to her. We test drove it a week ago and then again today and we also test drove the civic hybrid for comparison. My wife prefers the looks and the high seating position of a crossover but she decided to go with the civic instead. The engine noise in HR-V is simply unacceptable. You can drive the car like a pensioner but as soon as you want to merge on a motorway or overtake someone the noise will kill your ears. The civic is on another level, smooth, fast and quiet.
When it comes to the world of investing, most people don't know where to start. Fortunately, great investors of the past and present can provide us with guidance
Honda designers clearly hate the 3rd passenger at the back. In the previous Gen they did the same thing. There's enough space at the back for 3 but they deliberately make it uncomfortable for the 3rd passenger - which is a major annoyance for a family of 5!
We in North America tend to get dumbed-down, conservatively styled, cheapened versions of Hondas compared to what the U.K. gets. It's frustrating and not particularly enticing to buy a Honda here. This HRV looks fantastic. Ours looks...dull.
They are launching this one in India this year, and if the Indian version is as good as this is with some comfort related changes, then it will definitely be a big hit for Honda just like the Honda City!

Great review as always, I did look for a review by Matt before buying tbf.
damnnnn, but is it good for motorway speeds ?
Agreed
The HRV is a really nice car to drive, and I have also driven the top end German cars as well as two Kias.
The noise mentioned is only when you’re hard accelerating, otherwise very relaxed.
Motorway driving is the same as any most modern cars. The flexibility in the seats is great.

For people who like cruising and who like to set new fuel economy records without being really slow.
fuel is expensive nowadays, this does a good job 👍🏼
Does it lack power? In the Continental Europe(oustide of UK) it's only offered with 131HP.I would like to know does it struggle a lot to gain speed,or does it truggle on some ascending roads?

@@dyu999 Sorry man. You cant get a lot of power and fuel economy at the same time.
BTW, I dont think this car have any issue about accelerating unless five, 100kg people in the car with full filled trunk 😃
I got mine 2 weeks ago and love it so far. In real live driving, the engine is rarely noisy.
I first saw an HRV in 2000 visiting Japan, and fell in love with that styling, it remains my favorite.
I saw one of these on the road last week and had to do a double take, I think its one of the best looking front ends of any new regular car. Surprised at the brake and suspension noise, and also at the 0-60 time - impressive!
Daaaaaaamn girl! like that?
Agree. And, I have a similar kind of problem with my car's brakes too. It squeaks for the first couple kilometres, till the brakes warm up . But hey, I'm okay with that. It's 100k kms, and everything is as good as new.

The honda immd hybrid system, now on the 1.5 l class (before it was only 2.0 l on the accord) has a similar working to the nissan e-power. The engine acts as a generator most of the time, leaving 1 motor to drive the wheels. However on a highway cruise, unlike Nissan, the engine is able to direct drive to the wheels without any electric interference (except trickle charging maybe)
thank you for your knowledge
Sounds similar to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV I have, no gearbox at all but it can directly couple the engine to the wheels, usually only when the battery is depleted.
Yeah this is the same as the Outlander PHEV which just revs the guts out of it when you try to accelerate quickly!
This is the perfect setup. Pure ePower suffers on highway speeds.
Do you know what cycle the engine is on? Is it normal or Atkinson?

I would have this interior over any other one with laggy touch screens and no physical aircon controls.
Didn’t think there was lumbar adjustment on any model?
It's 60 uk mpg which is about 3-4 US mpg.

Its Asian, Asian car makers like American car makers do shit interiors, which is a shame because on the outside it looks great.
Also I think European models for these cars are a bit boring for Reliability and sorts. But the JDM model of HRV we get is called Vezel and it has DCT gearbox, Alcantara seats and stuff.

@@missakaiddamalgoda1879 Reliability isnt an issue these days for any car.

No CVT here, the engine has a direct connection to the front wheels on constant highway speeds (clutch).
The Honda HR-V Hybrid shown in this review is not offered in the U.S. So you probalbly had a CR-V.

Britain's a really weird place when it comes to units. Speed in mph, fuel economy in miles/gallon, cargo capacity in litres (too small of a unit for cargo capacity), they weigh cars in kilos but weigh people in stones like they're cavemen.
