Top job, most builders would not consider profiling the joists to sit in the web, placing it below so visible and would need boxing in. If the bearings were in place, you have the option of pre-deflecting the beam before bricking up above using cold chisels and/or a scissors jack to bend it by the amount of dead load deflection stated in the calculations. This minimises the minor cracking to the brickwork after the props are removed. Not so important here as the house is to be plastered but important in blocks of flats to try and reduce the amount of cracking in the flat above.
Well done guys. Hard work fiddling the first steel into the chimney and hearth. Next time, you might find it easier if you trim the top of the joists a few mm more so they dont bind on the steel and allow you to wind them up a touch if needed during installation. The house is going to be so different when you’ve finished. Looking forward to further updates. Definitely needed your client 'labourers' today!
I love to see home owners getting involved! I have said before and will say again, nothing more impressive than a woman with her own tools and calluses to prove she know how to use them!
On my birthday i also enjoy watching you at the end of a great day. Again great to see you professionals at work. Keep up the great work, also in 2025. Hope Steve wil get his hip done in 2025 so the discomfort and the pain will be gone. Wish you and your loveones a healty and great 2025 from the Netherlands 🙏👍👊
There must be an extension going on the side of the house, hence the exposed steel. The cavity tray would have to go above the roofline or else the cavity tray would vent inside the extension. Guessing somewhat.
Well done gentlemen. It was a tough and very dangerous job today. I was nervous in my chair the whole time watching it on my laptop. I thought the side of the house could crumble down any moment!! Super cool clients 👍
Happy the New Year and wishing you continued sucess in 2025 ! That was great. It must be a stressful day for everyone putting in a steel beam. My neighbours did one on their side of our semi-D. Then 6 months later a large crack developed from the corner of the end of the beam up along the render on my side. Aaaaand they didn't want to know about it ....
I was lucky enough to work at a engineering construction company before I retired. We had an extension put up at the end of the first lockdowns. We were still working through it so I fabricated all the steels in my spare time. Over *2 tonne of steel cost me about £1,500 , 1.7 tonne fully galvanised. I had all the design, certificates and our company has CE classification. I reckon it would have been nearer £5,000 if I had to pay someone to fabricate and transport it.
Looking forward to this guys, I will update the comment after video, see you at 2002hrs. Well I have to saybthat was a brilliant watch and excellent job well done 👏 😊
HI Steve and Alex good video and hard graft them steels ,what will happen to finish the steel web on the out side of the building or is the steel been left exposed ...
Steve do you have a problem with a mortar bed directly on the steel beam, it will crack? With a lintel no bed so not an issue. Is that steel beam exposed forever, it looks like it. Shouldn’t that steel beam have a cavity flashing and weep holes?
Hi, Al the best for 2025. Looking forward to more video's. The clients, especialy his Missus arn't afraid of hard graf are they. Wish I could get clients like that.
Well done to you all for getting the steels into place. What an excellent lovely couple Megan and James are getting stuck in to helping yourself and Alex. The telly handler was a massive help too. Can't waite to see it finished, it's going to look stunning. 👍🏼 All the best for the New Year, 🎇🎆🎇 🎉🎉to Steve, Alex and to all your family.🎉🎉 good luck for 2025🎉🎉
Brilliant Steve & Alex... I think it was the lick of the finger on the bubble that did it for me though, it never fails.!😂 Have a great new year and good luck on the 8th Steve.. I hope it all goes well mate. 🦿👍👍🏴
Happy New Year! With the original English language, your work is perfect! But now an AI speaks by default. Unfortunately, the boy sounds like a drunk Nick Bundy trying to speak Finnish. Even though it is set to German :) I prefer to listen to this in English. I do not need an AI translation.
James and Megan have done a massive amount of work including replacing every cavity tie and re pointing the whole ( large ) house all while having full time jobs . Starting and ending every day with their head torches 🔦 on . I wish I had their work ethic and stamina 🙌🏽🙌🏽🧱👍🏽
James and Megan. The kind of clients you DO want around 👍. Great video everyone.👌
Absolutely 🙌🏽👍🏽🧱

Cheers Mark 🧱👍🏽
Great work lads.
I find it easier to bolt timber into the steel web then put the joist on hangers on to the wood, save notching all the joist
We weren’t involved with the joists 🧱👍🏽
Nice to have the right tool this time. Wonderful video. Thanks.
Absolutely,
Cheers pal 🧱👍🏽

Hello why was there no damp tray installed ?
There must be an extension going on the side of the house, hence the exposed steel. The cavity tray would have to go above the roofline or else the cavity tray would vent inside the extension. Guessing somewhat.
Two story extension 🧱👍🏽

Thanks John .
