Great episode. I have a number of vintage travel guidebooks to Japan from the early 20th century. Cheers.

What Noah says about motorcycles is totally wrong. Japanese motorcycle manufacturing decimated the British industry, almost wiped out BMW, and would have killed American motorcycle manufacturing as well, if Reagan hadn't placed massive protective tariffs to protect Harley-Davidson. Today, the big four (Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda) Japanese motorcycle manufacturers are by far the biggest by volume in the entire world. Indeed, the Honda Cub remains the highest selling vehicle by volume in history.

Hey Noah, can you do an episode on the U.K. and potential policy solutions for the current malaise it is in

I think over the next 20 years you're going to see a whole lot of Filipino workers in Japan. Especially as Filipinos become more educated and it's impossible to get into the United States unless if you have like a PhD or you're rich if Canada and Australia cut back immigration they're going to want to go to places like Singapore Japan South Korea in large numbers.

I'm interested in this role for PE companies, and is it not able to be filled by the public equity markets? My understanding is that a lot of what is being discussed the late stage PE acquisitions, have in the US replaced what traditionally the stock market did. So is the point that the PE firms are doing it better than the stock market did it?

Japanese culture is not that peaceful. You should go ask the Chinese about WWII and Japanese prison camps.
We did not beat Japan as far as motorcycles go. Harleys do not sell.much outside of the US but Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Suzuki motorcycles are sold in large numbers almost everywhere in the world.
Toyotas are not the most American made vehicles. 4 of the top 5 most American made vehicles are Teslas including nr 1 and 2.
