    As I own both cameras like you, I agree to everything you said in this video. It depends on what you are using the camara for: The FX6 has the better audio inputs, the much faster and flexible way of changing the ND-Filter, the better lowlight performance, the less rolling-shutter-effect and the more professional look as the A7IV has the slightly sharper image due to its 7k oversampling and the better performance on the Ronin-S gimbal due to its ibis and the more compact size and lighter weight. I often use both cameras together with the master primes as they match perfectly and shoot the wideangle-shots with the A7IV mounted on a gimbal using the 14F1.8, 20F1.8 or 35F1.4 and for the close-ups I take the FX6 with the 50F1.2, the 90M2.8 or the 135F1.8. My recommendation: If you have the money, buy both of them and if not, take the A7IV to safe money...

    I’ve been using my A7IV a lot recently and there have only been 2 major downsides to it. The one that is the biggest deal to me is rolling shutter. I film a lot of dramatic sequences out of hand and it really caught me off guard how noticeable it is. And the other is that I can’t use the focus mapping with my vintage lenses, which is where it would be most useful for. Aside from those things it’s wonderful!

    • @silklion7375

      How is the rolling shutter in APS-C mode? Heard its better?!?!?

    • @JasonMorrisphotocinema
      @JasonMorrisphotocinema  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      absolutely for heavy hand held shots the rolling shutter wont be good. That is a given. Yes! I really wish they allowed focus mapping with manual lenses. I really really wish haha

    • @KoenRH2803
      @KoenRH2803 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@silklion7375 I think it’s a lot better! So if you can get away with using the APS-C crop or just straight up setting your camera film in HD instead of 4K (if you don’t want the crop), I would definitely recommend it. To my eye that makes the rolling shutter not a distraction anymore at all. I haven’t been able to test the quality of that footage though, just the rolling shutter performance :)

    So my A cam for video is the a7Siii which I went with for a multitude of reasons but the biggest reasons are the dynamic range, frame rate options (4k120 and 1080p240), rolling shutter performance, and low light capability. Those things alone separate the a7Siii from most every other camera in this range. I don't think you can go wrong with Sony period! The best thing about it is you can legitimately buy whatever you need.

First when I connect the HDMI cable, I don't see any image on the Atomos. Second, I don't know how to record from it or in general how to set up the camera in the menu.

    The physical buttons are a uge plus on a pro camera like the FX6, also seamless ND and XLR on board. Of course, a smaller Cam can be rigged up step by step for your needs. I could test the
    A 7IV for a few days. In APSC mode, rolling shutter seems to be almost half as noticable. So in the few cases you have very fast follow pans, it might be better to change.

    I also have both the A7iv and the FX6. Would love it if each had the features of the other. But that cannot be, for things which are physical, such as the superb inbuilt variable ND in the FX6. Already finding it a pain to have ND externally on the A7iv. I have been using Sony camcorders for 20 years in Australia, all of which had some form of internal ND. Agree that it would be nice to have shutter angle in the A7. Still getting used to have an SLR style camera and having to rig it like a camcorder with mics and monitors and a shoulder cage. I do wish that the stripped down FX6 had an external mic input. That was very remiss of Sony, not to let us use a radio pack or other external mic when on a gimbal.

    Great video as always! I love the A7IV, I actually like it more than my A7SIII. I like the image out of it a little better. It's also more detailed that the A7SIII, and when you zoom in 200%, the A7IV is still sharp, while the A7SIII gets soft. Sometimes I feel as if the A7SIII is not a true 4K camera, I used to have the Samsung NX1 and it was super sharp when zoomed 200%. I actually think that due to the loss in the delayering/demosaicing process, you actually need to have more pixels to achieve true 4K once debayered. I sold my FX6 after 8 months, I hated it except for the variable ND. I found it really clunky to use, and the image was too clean, almost video-ish, and the skin tones were orange. the FX6 doesn't have the organic look the A7IV and A7SIII have, in my opinion.

    Hey man. Awesome channel. Been watching some vids (i don’t think i ever commented though? 🤔). I have a question about the rolling shutter on the A7IV: in APSC mode i hear it isn’t as bad… have you tried it? Did you publish any footage that shows the difference anywhere? (If you did i missed it) thanks 😊

    Strange to be back in the world of full frame after 50 years. My first Pentax 35mm film camera back in the 60’s. Interesting that technology has still not overcome the basic limitation of zooms only being 3-4 x, rather than the 24x of my small sensor camcorders like the X180.

    14 minutes isn't a long video. :)

    It looks like a camcorder from the 90'. Especially that handle is really ugly. That's a huge turn off for me. Not buying untill and unless they do something about the handle design.

    1/8000 shutter speed on the Sony A7IV is very low, not friendly at all... In sunny day, we need use ND Filter, gargabe :(

      I recommend ND filters anyway rather than cranking the shutter

      Shouldn’t be using high shutter speed on video anyway. 90% of the time 180 degrees or the 2 x rule applies.
