As a Boise State fan I'd love the Grizzlies and Bobcats to join but I cannot see them leaving the FCS. I've always felt like Boise State-Montana would be a fun rivalry.
@ I just feel like NDSU and SDSU should make the jump with the cats and grizzlies, all are equally talented teams NDSU and SDSU are arguably more talented than them, but if NDSU and SDSU UND and USD would have to jump as well since they are in state rivals and are comparable teams not as good normally but they can still create a fun game to watch
This will literally never happen. School like Boise, San Diego State, Fresno, and Colorado State left the MW because they were tired of sharing a conference with a bunch of schools who dont give a shit about atheltics and dont invest in their programs or facilities.
@@sandtoy11510 Yes, in large part due to the aforementioned. It is going to be very interesting to see what kind of media deal the MWC is going to secure for 2026 with the departures. I think the MWC is going to be in for a very rude awakening when they see what they are being offered now. My guess is that it will be on par with the Sunbelt.
Correction….. those schools didn’t try to go to the Pac 12, Texas teased the Pac 12 because they wanted some attention. The rest of us just got pulled into the conversation.
Somebody has not been paying attention. The reason that BSU, FSU, USU, SDSU, & CSU joined the new Pacific Division is because the MW had too many non-competitive teams. The media contracts they were getting were awful. Joining WSU &OSU gives them the opportunity to be in an elite conference. As much as I like to root for Montana State and Idaho they are not at the same level.
They would have to get the Dakota State teams if anything but even that wouldn’t be as competitive. For football, this isn’t a power conference yet but basketball could be cinema
I don’t think Anchorage can add football or join a major non hockey specific conference, the city can’t even plow the streets after major snowfall. Playing in Hawaii is hard enough because it is so far away, I don’t think many teams would want to come here in November when winter is established.
Yeah mountain west teams already complain about having to come play in Laramie in the winter so not sure Alaska would be a solid football addition lol.
I’m a Honolulu resident. But even I can see how absurd it would be to have Hawaii & Alaska in the same conference. The travel costs. Those schools just don’t bring in enough revenue to make it worthwhile for the other members.
You are correct that San Jose State took away seating capacity but it’s not as many as you stated. It was more like an to 8k to 10k capacity decrease. The current capacity is at just above 20k and they had two home sellouts this year.
I do think if Colorado and Utah are unhappy with the Big12, then maybe the Arizona schools would even follow as well. That would honestly make them respectable for football and keep them a legit powerhouse in basketball with Gonzaga there as well.
That’s what us Griz fans down in Montana were thinking. I don’t think Wyoming has a true heated rivalry with anyone correct me if I’m wrong on that but Montana and Montana state have extremely heated rivalries with all their rivals and Montana and Montana state being in a conference with Wyoming would create an instant rivalry and that would be so fun for both schools. Hope we join a conference with you guys and make this rivalry a thing go Griz
Yeah we actually have a pretty heated rivalry tradition. We have several trophy rivalry games. Hawaii- Paniolo Trophy Utah State- Battle For Bridget’s Rifle Colorado State- Border War (Bronze Boot) And then we also have a good strong rivalry with Air Force. We also have our old WAC rivalry with BYU which would be stronger if we played them more often. So we do have great rivalries but two of our three big rivalries are gonna leave the conference soon and I’m not sure if they’ll still schedule the games. So Montana and Montana state would be awesome to get in the MWC.
@@jude1245 I didn’t know that. That’s pretty sick. Imagine a Montana state vs Wyoming rivalry. They could call it the battle of Yellowstone or something. And then idk what a Montana vs Wyoming rivalry would be called but it would be one of the best in college football
Yeah Yellowstone Showdown would be absolutely fire. And then Rumble in The Rockies or something for Wyoming V Montana. But those rivalries would be absolutely awesome! We’re all similar programs and a lot of shared culture which to me always makes the best rivalries.
You said Montana state has made a national championship game more recently than Montana has but that’s not true. Montana State made it in 2022 but the Montana Grizzlies made it last year in 2024
Very interesting. Being a life long University Of Washignton Husky fan - I never expected they wouldn't be a PAC - Conference team. I'm staying open minded about the Huskies being in the B1G now. Any chance of the PAC conference surviving would be wonderful.
Yes, this would be insane. The big schools and brands would never get into a revenue share with most of these lesser universities. This is business, not Girl Scout camp.

For the record, Alaska Anchorage is a historically horrible hockey school, haven’t made the tournament since 1992. They have only won 10+ games maybe a couple times in the last 20 years (each season is around 30-35 games). Real hockey schools are University of Denver, University of North Dakota, Boston College, Boston U, Quinnipiac, Minnesota. All the Alaska schools that have hockey are historically terrible. I love your channel Scott and I respect your hustle, but this video just feels like a chance to just run an ad. It makes no sense for the PAC12 to take any of these other schools outside of a couple. The whole point is to take the bigger brands from the MW which they already did, and have less schools taking a slice out of the tv revenue they bring in.
Hey, if you’re just doing this for the video that’s OK but you were saying something about Montana Montana state and Idaho Montana, Montana State Idaho in the big sky aren’t they just bring in eastern Washington? You’d have Oregon State Washington state and eastern Washington.
Why not UTSA? That school is about to explode. They have a great stadium (the Alamodome). And eventually UTRGV which is in the process of adding football and will have a great stadium. You could have a great Texas branch with UTEP, UTSA and UTRGV.
Nah, this is a mediocre Group of 5 Conference at best. Just merge the MWC (or just the best of it) & Wash. St & Oreg. St. Try to get back Cal & Stanford.
The new Pac-12 has a long, hard road to ever get back to "power conference" status. Right now every other conference is being left in the dust by the SEC & Big10.
Keep an eye on the "California conference". A conference with just California schools. Future California Conference: Stanford, CAL, UCLA, UC Davis, USC, Fresno St, San Diego St, San Jose St, Sac St, and Cal Poly.
