Some of you may realize this is a re-upload. There's an unfortunate reason for that. And it's not TH-cam's fault this time! It's my own. Here's why. When I was looking for music to use in this video, I tried to zero in on instrumental music that sounded like sea shanties. I stupidly and ignorantly used one song in the video, sourced from TH-cam's audio library, that I felt sounded like a sea shanty *without looking at what it was called*. This song was, in actuality, an instrumental version of a religious Jewish hymn, Hine Ma Tov. Once a commenter brought my attention to this, I took the video down as fast as I could. I sincerely apologize to the Jewish community for misusing a religious hymn in a video. At best, it comes off as severely uneducated. At worst, it comes off as antisemitic, considering it is used in a video about pirates. I meant no ill will towards the Jewish community or Judaism, and hope those in the community can forgive me for my misstep. I will be committed to being purposeful in my selection of background music in the future.
Hey, so I was the commentator who brought it up in the last video. I took ZERO offense and I can't imagine any other Jewish person would've either. It was my last intention for you to feel like you needed to take the video down and I hope it didn't cost you views/likes/subs/algorithmic favor. It was obviously an innocent mistake that I found more funny than anything, and it gave me a reason to play some Jewish Geography to see if ECU had a secret connection I was unaware of (like how Ajax soccer team plays the Hava Nagila because they've historically played in a Jewish neighborhood.) Love the channel and all the awesome work you do! Keep it up!
As someone who lives in North Carolina, you’re absolutely correct. The four big schools in North Carolina keep ECU down, first off because they have big money. The four schools have old money from generations of people going to those schools. ECU is considered the party college of North Carolina. so the universities try to keep them from becoming a university, because they don’t want North Carolina to be labeled negatively for the longest time
LOL, this is dumb. ECU is a bad academic school, I met several girls in college who transferred from there because they thought it was not safe to live there.
You are correct, which is totally bizarre because it is exactly the opposite of the Big school's relationships with App State. If the UNC system had its way, all of its institutions would be under the same conference, but its own institutions seek to stop ECU specifically.
@@ohalbleib actually, while that was a goal of the UNC system back in the 80s, they abandoned it after the collapse of the Southwest Conference, which is what they based their idea off of. As a memphis fan, i miss the black and blue bowl. It's crazy how good that program used to be and at least from the outside, it seems like one decision changed the program. When they fired that coach for going 7-4
I grew up in Raleigh and ECU was really the best program in the state between 2008-14. Probably drew the biggest crowds and was consistently beating UNC and NC State.
I'm a ECU grad and big fan of the football team with season tickets. Thank you for the video and you did a great job. I didn't know we are 169-182 since 1996. I believe Blake Harrell can turn this ship around. If you ever need more ECU insider knowledge hmu. 10/10 video.
As a lifelong ECU fan joining the ACC has always been a dream but you are right it will never happen bc of the other schools blocking it. Our only hope to get into a better conference would be if the Big 12 decided it wanted to add more eastern schools to complement WV, UCF, and Cincinatti. Also playing Houston again would be an added bonus. If they ever let us in we’d be a sleeping giant in the state of North Carolina as this fan base is dying to get back to that level of 08-14 🏴☠️
As much as I hate ECU (never forget what they did to Carter-Finley Stadium in 1999) they really do deserve to play in a power conference. Money and legacy sadly will keep them in the American.
@ that’s a really oversimplified take- lots of ECU’s programs are very competitive and growing in prestige. Yeah they still have a “party school” stigma but that doesn’t make them a bad school by any means.
Tulane was a original member of the SEC up until the Mid 60's when they decided to leave because of their high academic standards and lack of being competitive. They do have 3 SEC titles in FB though.
Speaking of Southern Miss, when they announced a year or two ago that they were leaving C-USA for the Sun Belt, i was surprised that there was very little mention of how they were the last founding member to leave, and how, for the first several years of C-USA football's existence, Southern Miss was the league's big dog.
I was in the University of Louisville's marching band in the late 90s, and we traveled to ECU for a game in 98. I remember thinking that ECU's stadium felt very similar to Louisville's and Kentucky's stadiums. It didn't feel like a small-time stadium at all. I was impressed by it.
Who on earth told Wake Forest they could look down on anyone? They have legacy money and strong academics, but outside the South hardly anyone knows who they are. And the worst, they don't sponsor softball.
Born in Raleigh, grew up less than an hour from Greenville, went to NC State. 1. I’ve never seen my dad (NCSU alum) angrier than the 1991 loss. 2. Logan deserves more credit. They played a TOUGH schedule as Independents, and kept a lot of those games as non-con games when they went CUSA. Miami, VT, WVU, Syracuse, FSU, and other ACC schools stayed on the schedule throughout the 90s, and Logan was always competitive with them. If there’s a coach they should have kept longer, it’s him. He deserved better than getting canned after one bad season, given the difficulty of the job he did. 3. I’m not sure about within the UNC system, but during the 90s and 00s, NC government was still dominated by Easter NC. It’s hard to believe it, but since 1992, we’ve only had a Governor from outside ENC (defined as East of Raleigh) for one 4 year term (until electing a Raleigh native this year). The man who basically ran the legislature for 20 years in the 90s and 00s was from the Outer Banks and built a ton of infrastructure, especially major highways, around Greenville. Maybe the UNC Board of Governors (always dominated by UNC-CH alums to this day) didn’t like them, but they had friends in high places. 4. There’s another factor that I personally believe killed their momentum in recruiting after the 90s, and that was the coming of ESPN’s Friday Night games. Friday Night Lights were strong in the 90s in the area. There was little at all to do other than hit up the high school football game. When ESPN announced they’d start putting CUSA games on Friday nights, eastern NC HS coaches were livid about competing with ECU for attendance. The close relationship that led them to do so well recruiting their part of NC ended, and schools like UNC swept in and started taking all the best talent, like Julius Peppers, who was local to the Greenville area. Before long, ESPN started putting ACC games on Fridays, so now both ECU and local HSs were at a disadvantage. This has shown itself in HS competition in NC as well, as the power has shifted irrevocably to the Charlotte area as the seat of HS talent, a place that is closer to Clemson and almost as close to some SEC schools like Tennessee and SCar as it is to the Triangle, not to mention it’s easier to fly into CLT if you’re coming from B1G country. Greenville is more than an hour and a half from RDU.
Agreed on the McNeill firing. They lost a close game at the end of what was his last season and ended up 5-7 instead of 6-6 with a roster that was in transition due to graduation departures. Program hasn't recovered from getting rid of him.
Even today, I don't know if ECU fits with the AAC. They've alwyas felt like an outlier, despite being one of the longest tenured teams. I wish the CUSA and SunBelt kind of split geographically so we'd have a conference of deep south teams, and a conference of Eastern teams like ECU, App State, Coastal Carolina, ODU, Liberty, JMU, WKU, Marshall, and so on
