Hi guys- when I was in Turkiye in May this year I thought the fruit & vegetables were very reasonably priced & the quality was excellent- cheaper than here in Australia - I loved the turkish olives ( ate them every day) I now buy imported Turkish olives to enjoy here. Thank you again for your informative videos - ❤🤗🇹🇷🇦🇺
I live down the road in Dalaman. Like many countries, you just have to be careful. I'm always comparing the prices between the supermarkets and the open market. Sometimes the supermarket can be cheaper for particular items, but to be honest, the quality in the open market is so good. Beautiful fruit.veg, cheese, olives, spices. The fruit and veg in Türkiye is amazing.
Wonderful market..... Where I am (Western US) we do not have all these gorgeous veggies and fruits available at the store/supermarket (no outdoor farmers markets either at this time of the year) .... it's mostly delivered from far away states, chemically polished, and can not remember the last time I've eaten a fruit that smelled or tasted like anything !.... so I gave up on fruits! The same with most veggies, no taste/flavor and no real nutrition! And thanks to more recent immigrants, we have Pomegranates this time of year that are sweet. I am someone who grew up eating some of the best, delicious and sweetest produce in the world. A far away Mediterranean land. So I miss all that. Thanks for showing us all that gorgeousness. Stay safe.
Then you need to move to California. I know you might not like our politicians but we have best weather, fruits, vegetables and plenty of Turkish restaurants.
@@jhasemi LOL well I moved out of CA over a decade ago and NOT for political reasons !!! And I don't eat out, Turkish or other, because I cook from scratch! Being a Mediterranean person, I just need the good quality, non processed and tasteful/flavorful ingredients .... that's all ! Thanks for the suggestion :)
I live in Burhaniye, and find the prices a little bit cheaper for most things compared to this video and when I went to the main market in Fethiye last month. Obviously things grown in the south like bananas are cheaper, and over winter a lot of things will disappear here, though there will be heaps of weeds (turp otu, Şevketibostan, ısırgan otu) to tide us over. In any case it's incredible value compared to my former home of Australia. Thanks for the video, I didn't realise there was a market in Çalış Beach, I will definitely check it out next time I am there.
Hello Mick & Trudie, as always I Love your videos. My wife adores all the fresh vegetables & fruit that is available in Turkey, whilst also loving the Spices. So thank you for the beautiful video.
youtube da gezerken bir videonuz denk geldim başkentimiz olan Ankara yı gezip tanıtıyordunuz izlerken çok keyif aldım .bir türk olarak bu gurur verici umarım ülkemizi beğenmişsinizdir :)
Well, I'm living in Paris, but in September I was in my hometown Akhisar, Manisa province ( Ege region as well ). I noticed that prices for tomatoes are 20 lira/kg. Which is way cheaper than prices in France. Not to mention that turkish tomatoes are incredibly tasty and sweet like sugar.
I am in South Eastern US and we do not get markets looking like this! Nor these prices. Our closest market the guy brings in boxed vegetables - same as grocery store - chemical treated and waxed and sells at farmers market as if fresh home grown. Event he eggs for free range are more than market and they use feed too. I miss the markets there in Türkiye - the food is soooo good and fresh and yes the cabbages are HUGE!
Compared to US prices these are about the same but per pound rather than kilo. Considering our salaries in USA your price are very expensive. Also the price rise in the fruits and veg is far more than the loss in the lira value. Price gauging by the producers is totally unacceptable. The government should control that.
In 2011 I was living in New Zealand and went to a supermarket. As I was perusing around and came across the eggplants/aubergines. I looked at the price and saw it was $7.98. That was $7.98 not for a kilo or a pound, but for just one eggplant. It was at that time I realized that New Zealand was no place for a Greek and Turkish boy from Melbourne.
Hi Mick & Trudie, currently in Spain food and market prices are the same or less than in Turkey, fruit about €1 a kilo. A three course meal of the day/menu del-dia costs about €10, in Turkey at least double. Even in UK bananas and some other items are cheaper. But it's not Turkey 😉 Thanks as always for the super videos 👍 çok teşekkürler ❤
I always enjoy your videos I grown up this kind of fruit and vegetable just smells make life more enjoyable God look at colours you know these quality of Food and vegetable bring more healthy life In Canadá nothing fresh specially fruit everything kept hug warehouse for a long time I hope everyone have chance enjoy theses blessed
I was at that market in September 2023, I can`t remember the individual prices (seem about the same), but the quality of the produce is on another level compared to the overly expensive UK, ..........oh god I do miss Calis beach and Fethiye badly = need to go back soon to visit Olu Deniz for the cable car and the tandem paragliding.
I respectfully disagree on that! I moved from Florida to Alanya. Prices on the bazaar are cheaper than in the US but not really when you are buying in the stores. Bananas are more expensive in Türkiye than in the US grocery store! Toothpaste is the same price as in the US store.
Prices are reasonable for tourists but when you consider Turkish salaries it must be expensive for the locals .Must say it is better quality than fruit and veg in the UK.
I brought home half a suitcase of aubergine in October as cheaper per kilo in Turkey than I pay for one in Scotland.😅 But generally found prices much nearer to UK prices for many things. No longer bring clothes home for the grandchildren.
Excellent prices for fresh produce! Most prices are 1/2 to 1/4 of what I’d pay in a Florida grocery store! Even though we grow a lot local; prices tend to follow national brokerage marketplace. Your market: Lemons were a “steal”, and here eggplant only comes from California, so expensive and rare with shipping. I imagine produce in Türkiye is more expensive in winter when they ship to the rest of Europe. Enjoy!
Hi Mick and Trudie. Thanks for all your videos. You asked if prices are cheaper where we live. We have a place in Kusadasi. Someday we hope to live there almost full time. When we are not there we watch videos!! One in particular is called Wanderlust Feet Vlog. She has two recent videos on market prices. One is from the main bazaar and the other is from the Thursday Organic Market which is supposed to be feom local farmers only. The prices on Thursday are usually a little higher. Anyway I thought you might be interested in comparing Kusadasi with Fethiye. Both kinda touristy! I would like to see someone post prices from a non touristy town!
Love watching your posts 🤗. However, a local I know there sez prices out of reach for poorer society of 🇹🇷's......everythings relevant from local perspectives......32 ☘️🇮🇪
Best Friends. On the market of Calis (Turkey) the prices are starting to be the same as in Belgium, so indeed everything is only getting more expensive 😞 😞 😞
sweet red peppers you buy lots to make tarhana soup this time tarhana is fermented with red peppers flour etc then dried and made into powder then soup made all winter
I was surprised to know that people from Batumi Georgia cross the border to shop groceries in Turkey. I thought Georgia was supposed to be cheap but clearly not as Turkey
All our food to eat at home came from Migros in Akyaka and the local market on Wednesdays, over a 6 week period this summer our total cost was significantly more than Tesco,s in the U.K over a similar period of time, the inflation was very noticeable this year,we have been here 18 years now,the restaurants have priced themselves out of the market currently,of course Akyaka is seriously overpriced.Marmaris restaurants were more reasonable.Turkish friends informed me that they often go to Greece now as better prices. The tourism will revolve around all inclusive holidays which is a great shame as not helping the local communities and not seeing the true Turkey.
I moved to the UK from Turkey about 14 years ago. I`ve never been to Akyaka but spent a lot of time in south of Turkey back in the day. From what I heard, the place has become extremely popular among well off trendy Turks in recent years mostly because of kite surfing and all that stuff. Wherever these people go, prices tend to go up.
I was there a few weeks ago. In the 7 weeks I was in Turkiye I'd say that particular market was slightly cheaper than the UK but outside the farmers market everything is the same price as in the UK. In fact we were in Greece beforehand and I'd say Greece is slightly cheaper than Turkiye now.
I come to turkey every year and twice a year some years… but this last summer would’ve been our last year as it’s getting ridiculously expensive so Greece, Spain from summer 2025 …

i dont suggest u buy milk product from bazaar .. milk can get contaminated easy ..and u would never be sure of pastorization ... so only buy the know brand from supermarket
Everything is half price of the UK but they get paid 1/3 of the average wage here in UK. So technically youre better off in the UK, despite the economy being very bad here. Compared to Turkey its like heaven.
I just came back from 7 weeks in Turkiye and I'd say most prices are the same as the UK now and half the restaurants are more expensive then the UK. I can't see how the current inflation levels are sustainable. I was in Greece before Turkiye and Greece was both busier and cheaper. If the economy doesn't sort itself out I can see lots of bed spaces being available next year. We won't be returning in the short term for sure, it's just too expensive.
In istanbul 1 kg cucumber is now 80 Turkish liras and half people who is working in turkey just earning 17000 Turkish liras. So Türkiye is very expensive for Turkish people.
I live in Canada and our eggs are always refrigerated......so when I married a Turk and went to visit Izmir and I saw those eggs un-refrigerated at the bazaar and the whole time I was there and visited lots of times I would not touch eggs. I thought for sure they were spoiled or rotten. Years later I learned why they were not refrigerated....lol thank you for sharing your shopping trip....I love those Bazaars everything is so fresh and tasty...our winter season we get fruits and veggies from Mexico and Florida and California mainly.

Its quite expensive for a Turk living slightly over the minimum wage

Amazing content. I am watching you from Calgary, Alberta Canada. Prices in turkey is much cheaper compare to Calgary, Canada.
I found the market prices have risen a lot specially for the Turkish people and some of the smaller market shops are cheaper than the main markets

Definitely you have a point. But gotta point out that Fethiye area is one of the posh areas of Turkey. Inland would be much cheaper.

@@nedlukies6940 you're absolutely right, outside tourist areas it's cheaper, easily get two decent kebabs for a tenner 😀
