Best thing for learning sharpening drills is practice, and more practice.

When you know how to sharpen drill bits there are a lot who don't. A great video.

Thanks Tim, and a special thanks to Sam. I purchased a " Drill Sharpening Kit" when I was at Farmfest years ago. When I spend the time and read the instructions again. I am able to do a reasonable job, but nowhere as good as the rep selling the kits. If I only knew all I needed was a good grinder. Cheers

that advice about not letting drill bits get too far worn is right on. i dont worry too much about the centre being perfect because i always drill pilot holes. i also found that the cheap 4-sided diamond sharpening block i got from bunnings is super useful for putting a like-brand-new edge on them. actually if i had his grinder i would use the belt for getting my drill bits ready for the bunnings diamond sharpener.

Thanks for the vid Tim...Horsely Wholesale at Goulburn, NSW is one of the best ag stores around...if you're after electric fencing gear don't even bother looking elsewhere - you won't find it less expensive anywhere. I can drive over 80kms to and from Goulburn and still be way in front on a single purchase...and customer service is ace as well. Many thanks to Sam and his crew...

I’m about 1 out of 4 I get a bit to actually cut and drill but I don’t practice enough and my dad was damn near blind and could sharpen them like nothing 😅 great vid

I was going to buy a specialised jig from Bunnings but I'll give this another try. Its a roll of dice for me so far.

Best drill grinding is a white grinding wheel. Does a better job and less burning. DIY ers use a hard grey wheel. Keep it just for sharpening not general grinding. That gap in toolrest a danger point. Close it up.A wheel dresser gets the surface back as well. Use Rocol black cutting paste as well. Drilling the steel. Can cut stainless easy with it.

You might want to considerer, how to true and dress a grinding wheel. The run out vibration of that wheel, Made my privates crawl back up. The truer the face of a wheel runs, the better the grind. I know of these two blokes, formally of Thomastown. That can show you 4 generations of how to dress a wheel. It would be a video / addendum of its own, to add to this.

Do you get the drill guides just from a local hardware store?

Hey what is that green thing with the big belt drive wheel at 1:11 in? I'm a big time farmer in New Zealand and I need some kind of pump for my 5 acre spread.

It’s an old grinder. Best option for you would be an electric pump mate.

My father in law taught me to sharpen drill bits on a grinder years ago. Exactly the same technique. The only difference is we used to use aluminium oxide wheels, which give a much better finish than a standard wheel, and they don't clog up as much.
