Especially when in the player character's house in Galar has a fireplace that is basically useless because seasons were removed three generations ago! Seasons were a great addition, in my opinion; no clue why so many features are removed for no apparent reason
While I agree with this completely, it's kinda hard to imagine Circhester in summer. Maybe remove areas that appear to be stuck in the same season for all eternity? Maybe only certain areas would be affected by seasons? I don't know.
Yeah, ok, but can we talk about this franchise currently burning? Hm? Oh, wait, no, we cant, cause this youtuber is ignorant towards it. Well, thats just sad.
@@ShadowLightMewEndlessOceanMew But they're still pumping out a game every year. Sword and Shield were in development since Sun and Moon's release in 2016, and in that time, they released a new title every year with USUM and LGPE. Not to mention, GameFreak only has just over 140 employees
@@ShadowLightMewEndlessOceanMew the issue is how they're working on multiple projects at a time _all the time._ Even if they get more time and more people, they're always split into small groups anyway. And that's not even bringing up the non pokemon games they make, too. They need to ease up on the workload, as it's clear it's catching up to them.
I just realized that in the Pokemon world, we never had a sibling. I personally think that that kind of relationship would be much better than a friend-friend one. Just imagine the motivations behind the rivalry-- parental acceptance, anybody?
Maybe like,,, a sibling or half-sibling to your character, where your mom or dad is the champion, or the villain, so you compete with your sibling all the way, maybe even making a comment on familiar relationships and all? Sounds nice to me
In my idea for a Pokemon game, your player character has a twin of the opposite gender to you who would serve as a rival (along with 2 friends, 1 boy and 1 girl), and who you encounter many times along the way, and your character's uncle owns the Battle Frontier, calls you at multiple points in the story to ask how your journey is progressing (I just thought the idea of a stranger following you around and always popping up after major battles might seem a bit creepy, whereas an uncle would know you and it'd be reasonable for him to check in with you to see how you're getting on on your journey), and tells his friends (the future Frontier Brains) about how his nephew/niece is this up-and-coming Pokemon Master, and his plan to make a battle facility to test them, and each of them eventually agrees to join him in making the facility as you progress through the game. Once you beat the Champion, your uncle calls you to let you know he's finished creating the facility and he and his friends each run a location in there, and offers to bring the player to the Frontier (you must call him in order to visit the Frontier for the first time. Then every subsequent time you can get there by flying or walking from any adjacent town/city)
I still hope that some day, the rival could be precisly that, your sibling. That would open so much more possibilities in terms of story and dialogues (and of course, he/she would also be the other player, so, your twin).
I can second that. But people that nitpick games to expose flaws and make them seem like a big deal to harm it are just jerks. Cough DistantKingdom Cough.
Nitpick? Distant kingdom exposes the major issues. You need to remember this is a 60$ switch game not a 40$ DS game. A certain aura of quality is expected. Compare Swosh to Fire Emblem 3 houses, Mario Odyssey, or Breath of the Wild. Swosh is garbage. Even among Pokémon only games it’s pretty close to the bottom. If you don’t think something is an issue it doesn’t mean nobody else does. You need to be able to be objective about facts. The fact is Swosh is a garbage Switch game.
heard from another comment that this is what a true fan is like, someone who can point out flaws. but a true fan is also someone who just doesnt compare a new game to their favourite game in the series calling it inferior. truegreen is a true fan, and a fair one. thanks for uploading content on this platform for us.
No true Scotsman fallacy. A true fan doesn't exist because every fan is equally a fan. If you start segregating what a true fan is from the not true fans then you're just left with 8 billion different definitions of what a true fan is. Thus nobody's a true fan. A fan can be critical of the new games, compare them to the older games, and say why "subjectively or objectively this is why this is bad". But according to your own logic that's just not what someone should do. You shouldn't take an entry into one of the most well known media franchises in the world and compare and contrast. No no no. You should just take whatever papa Nintendo slaps a Pokemon label on and treat every game like there's nothing else in the world that you could compare it to.
I know this won’t happen but it could solve the feature scrapping problem. Every generation add a facility to the battle frontier representing each region that allows mechanics from previous games. Examples: a battle chateau representing Kalos that allows Mega evolution or a battle tree that allows Z-moves
@@thekingbwdee3505 in this dream scenario the battle frontier would become cumulative, adding a facility each generation. So if it existed in SwSh it would include buildings for the first 7 gens, then Gen 9 would keep all that and add a facility for Galar. Possibly using a centralized app like Pokémon Home as the hub
You’ve probably said this, but the animations REALLY need to be fixed. I watched Lockstin and gnoggin’s video, and I completely agree with it. There shouldn’t be animations for every single attack for every single Pokémon, but there should be a kick, punch, jump, special, etc. this can go really far to make the games look amazing. And, for Pete’s sake, *line up the attacks to the appropriate areas!*
Lockstin even said that in his video I believe? That even if we have to compromise that there should still be better looking animations than hopping up and down? A good example is say a signature move. If it's a hyper beam clone mechanically, why does the animation have to be a hyper beam with a shader on? Or maybe they take the effort to actually give it a pallet swap on the colors. That's what Game Freak is currently at. When say Frenzy Plant, Hydro Cannon, and Blast Burn should feel unique since it's already an exclusive move. Make it feel special. But no. "Scorbunny used double kick" a gigantic foot from the aether comes out of the sky as the model continues to just stand there doing the idle animation as it gets shaken around to attempt to imitate the act of using double kick. But when you compare that mess to Cinderace using Pyro Ball? It's night and day how polished the final evolutions got treated. Why could we not get that for ALL the parts of the evolution
So basically what everyone's been saying since forever, but said in a less radical way. It's good to have a fan, that is still enjoying Pokemon, supporting and giving more validity to the desires of us, who don't enjoy Pokemon the way it is anymore. Thanks. Great edits too. Just hinting at which features you were talking about, with clips, fleshed out the points you were making, with actual proof.
I love it because it feels somewhat self aware, like they're acknowledging how dumb and pointless it is. But it should really only be a one time thing and not a trend, though.
Hey 👋, Exploration is one of the most important part of a Pokémon Game, and alola has many optional areas, routes and many more, but alola has the least amount of freedom, due to the linearity of the Games that takes place in alola and alola doesn’t reward you for going the beaten path and it sucks. And honestly, galar is slightly better in the nonlinear thing. Pokémon Sword and Shield aren’t as linear as Pokémon Sun and Moon and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon and Pokémon Sword and Shield aka galar does not have a lot of optional areas, but the wild area is a fun explorable part of the region and the most of the areas in the wild areas are optional and galar does have some explorable place that you can get lost easily like slumbering weald and the glimwood tangle and some mini islands in some routes, etc and I get lost easily there and in my opinion, Pokémon Sword and Shield also have a great storyline and it’s not as bad as Pokémon X and Y and Pokémon Gold and Silver.
a fav fangame of mine called "pokemon reloaded" that isnt too much like a traditional pokemon game and its more of a fighting game of controlling your pokemon and dodging attacks has a pretty cool feature, "external habilities" once one of your pokemon learns an HM it gains an external hability respective to it, and the best part is that external habilities stay even if your pokemon forgets the move, so it will still be able to surf, fly, dig and break rocks at any given time without messing with the moveset of the pokemon
I think this a fantastic way to make HMs more flexible and painless. But I think it's better to make the conditions species dependant. If you happened to level up and replace the only fighting move, suddenly you are trapped in a cave without the means of rock smashing. So bug and grass type can "Cut", Fighting-type can rock smash, Pokemon that meet a minimum weight can use Strength, etc
@@yiklongtay6029 Just allow newly caught pokemon to replace pokemon on your party (sending the party mon to the pc) and have wild pokemon spawn with fighting type moves so if you do get stuck, you can catch a pokemon in the area that would logically be able to navigate the area they live in. Forests where you need to cut through stuff could spawn pokemon that are eligible to cut through that stuff. it makes sense from an immersion angle too. Maybe a mix of the two. like bugs/grass types or pokemon with sharp parts of their body (garchomp) should be able to clear through cut-trees. Maybe rock smash is tied to fighting type moves so pokemon like ursaring can still be able to smash rocks. I like strength being tied to pokemon weight. "fly" should also be limited to heavier pokemon that can fly. dont make it a move or a "ride pokemon", but abilities in your menu that become eligible if you have a party member that fits it's requirements
Oddly, human like Pokemon (gardevoir, galade, etc) kinda made me uneasy as a kid and I never wanted to use them in my playthroughs. It wasn't until my 2nd time playing platnuim where I actually started to use galade. That was my first and only time though
I think the only humanoid pokemon that I actually like are Cacturne, Beheeyem, and Grimmsnarl. I mean, Cacturne is a cactus scarecrow, Beheeyem is an alien, and Grimmsnarl is... well... Grimmsnarl. I like the implications of his background I guess. The fact that his hair gives him strength gives me Samson vibes. The fact that it's "Grimm" and not "Grim" makes me think of the Brothers Grimm. He's also the first fairy-type to look the exact opposite of the type (even more so than Snubbull and Granbull). He's the "death metal fairy" as my dad called him. Not to mention Impidimp. Love that little pink goblin.
I don't really see a problem with humanoid Pokemon designs, personally. Considering that a Pokemon can be pretty much anything you want it to be, giving them more human designs was never something that got under my skin. And while many people may feel uncomfortable about the designs of many of these Pokemon, I honestly don't see why they can't exist, given that in Sinnoh lore, it is revealed that humans and Pokemon actually share a common ancestor. But that's just my take on it, personally.
For me if they are clearly based off an animal but are somewhat humanoid, then its fine, such as Inteleon But if they are literally almost human like Sawk, then its bad

@person person in today’s society it’s different tho There’s new fans and old fans, and imo it seems like GF is focusing more on the new fans and adding some old gen pandering to try to lure the old fans back into the franchise
@person person The problem is that they are alienating the older fans that *made* that fanbase. The kids who started playing Pokémon have grown more, some being around since Gen 1. There's nothing wrong will drawing in new fans. We aren't asking for a complicated game. But it's tiring to be treated like a dumb kid in any game.
@@Justic_ Gen 1 pandering isn’t the same as considering the older fan base when making games though. When your whole game is handholding and easy battles, adding a new charizard form won’t please older fans. Appealing to the competitive scene is great, but the scene is small compared to the number of older fans that just want to enjoy a Pokémon game again.
@person person I remember seeing someone suggest that the big plot battles should all be double battles since that’s the official tournament format and they were pleased with Raihan using a weather team and would like to see more mechanics based gyms like that. I agree with both sentiments. Battling can be so much more than type a is super effective vs type b and here’s an elemental nuke button. I remember being pleasantly surprised when Kukui lead with lycanroc’s stealth rock and I think a trick room gym or a trick/flame orb(?) gym would be neat to see
@@Justic_ not contradicting u but I’m curious, how have they pandered to the VGC the last few years? Seems like no more than 3 Pokémon are VGC viable in any of the last few gens and a lot of the Pokémon that fans think will be amazing, like vikavolt, are totally nerfed by a lame stat that doesn’t even make sense. I think stat and type wise gens 1-5 still get the vast majority of VGC shine, with a few exceptions here and there. Again you might know more than I do tho, so I’m genuinely asking.
I remember in the DS games (It was only for the DS games that I'm sure, although I think they might have it in the later games) they asked if you knew the controls and what to do before you start your journey. But it still didn't get rid of all the tutorials. Maybe something like that before you start there would be an option to disable that. And if they go back to Alola again, which I highly doubt but still, they could put in an option to skip cut scenes.
The Professor should just ask "You know how to catch Pokemon?" If you say yes (90% of people will know) they are just gonna Say "Ok! Here the pokeballs, Bye" or Something like that, if you say no he would teach you Its so Simple man
Catching tutorial could be skipped in sword and shield if you caught a Pokémon before the tutorial. So I guess they are at least kinda working on that. Despite them having it right all the way back in GSC with a Yes or no option.
For the pokéride system, I think a great way to have people ‘unlock’ each different ride would be to catch the pokemon, get it to a certain level, and then find some sort of item (harness, reigns, helmet, etc.) and use the item on the Pokémon, which would then register it as a pokéride Pokémon.
@person person even if they were viable, they'd still be takeing up a move slot against the players will. Lets go did it best as it was still your pokemon doing the move yet you don't lose a move slot.
Best Pokemon games to me was Emerald and Yellow Version. Second best was original Red and Blue as well as the remakes FireRed/LeafGreen. Never played any later Gen games since lack DS just have Advance SP. Also saw the Pokemon Ranger games and was like: STUPID IDEA!!!
I feel like most of the stuff he brought up is for two main reasons: the easier difficulty and linear routes, etc. are because of a "dumbing down" (for lack of a better term) to try and make the game more appealing to smaller kids. The constant feature scrapping and legendaries everywhere is probably a marketing thing so that they've got buzzwords to use in their trailer. At the moment, the series feels a bit directionless to me as they're trying to be both a kid's game and a highly competitive esport.
It's not just that. Back in the ORAS days, Masuda revealed his reason for not implementing the Battle Frontier: kids nowadays are easily distracted and they have to compete against _mobile games_ for their attention. You read that right, Gamefreak is afraid of mobile games being more successful than their full-scope games. Ridiculous
I swear, if they keep going in that stupid direction, we can probably expect (or at least dread) there being gross mechanics in the game. Darumaka and Turtonator have Pokedex entries that suggest that already...
@@zanib.279 the most ridiculous thing about this perspective is that pokemon is not a f2p game. Mobile games will never be as gripping as a full game because of the platform limitations. Thats why most are f2p, because people wouldnt pay for half these mobile games. The most succesful mobile games are also gatcha games that provide constant dopamine because "gambling". Making your full size handheld game shallow because, "most people are bouncing from mobile game to mobile game each week anyway." is out of touch. They bounce from game to game because each game is so shallow that it loses it's appeal after a week. It'd be like a restaurant lowering their quality because, "people seem to just want shitty food these days," when really it's the low prices that bring people around fast food.

I think that Barry was a perfect rival, he was still friendly and nice, but was also a little cocky and was challenging you. If that how hop was, it would be perfect Edit: I’m not saying in any way that hop is a bad character. He goes through a great story and just suffered from not having enough time put into that story. My problem with hop is that he never seems like a threat and all of his taunting and challenging you never seems deserved. So I think that he is a good character, but a bad rival
In my opinion, Hop was a perfect rival because he grew as the story progressed. People say that he is like Hau and that really pisses me off since besides their names having similar structure, they are on opposites sides of the hypothetical rival spectrum.
I want a rival that is an actual enemy to you. I can't really get a rival experience where I have an actual reoccurring enemy unless I go back to the DS and Game Boy.

I feel like Hop is the perfect rival, pure story wise. Most people say nice rivals are bad or whatever but Hop was pretty cocky in the beginning if you lost to him. I believe if ganefreak somehow made it to where however many times you lose to your rival the more cocky they get or 'bad' they get. Maybe like a split story where your rival could've gone on a power trip and become evil or a Rival where you beat them a bunch of time bringing them down to earth humbling them creating a path where you fight beside them against the main villain
Underrated idea. A friend got me Sword for XMas just a week ago. I just got my 5th badge. I feel bad for Hop. Kid wants to be his bro so badly and has the unfortunate fate of not being the main character, the player. I appreciate that he struggles when he loses, because I do Pokemon Go tournaments and there are definitely times I get in my own head. Basically, just explore more variations on what kind of competitors there are out there. We've had edgelords aplenty, and cocky SOBs. All we really need are more rivals with actual philosophies and/or goals and who are actually challenging.
In my eyes, Gamefreak took a step in the right direction when they made Hop: a relatable teenager who struggled to be something because he was in his brother's spotlight. I would like it a lot if they made more realistic teenagers as rivals in the future. Although I wish he wasn't doing so much handholding at the beginning of the game and didn't reuse some of Hau's animations
I really like Hop's character story-wise. The problem I have is how he is set up to fail. I believe he is the first rival (at least in the game I have played) to choose the pokemon weak to your starting type. The earlier battles were utterly comical. You can defeat his whole team with just the starters. How did he even manage to get the badges with the teams he had? He is the primary reason I decided to bench my starter as all the trainers in this game are too easy. I think the story would have punched harder if he was a more competent trainer in his own right just short of his brother's greatness.
A difficulty setting would be nice, as long as you can turn it on or off at any point in the game. The games could be easy for younger fans, but the challenge option would still be there for all us veteran players, as well. And yes, I know they implemented a challenge setting in Gen 5, but it was only a post-game thing.
I still think there should be a third option for casual players who have been playing for a while. A little challenge is nice but I don't want to get into competitive battling just to win some battles.
I'm a filthy casual, but I believe optional exp share and difficulty settings are things that should exist. I wouldn't use them, but I know that many people would enjoy the games much more.

The player search system, PSS, from gen 6 was the best online we’ve ever had, they should of let the frame work, because the Y-comm is passable at best, and absolutely frustrating more often than not.
Not enough people talk about making the expansions free. Ya know, break the cycle of needing to pay more to make the games better, making the money you already invested in the initial purchase stronger. Like, paid DLC for these games are equally as unacceptable as the third version model in today's setting. Instead, it shouldn't cost you a dime, that way the price of admission is all you need to worry about to know that you're getting the full experience whether you're someone who purchased the game at launch or someone who's (thinking of) buying the game later down the line. Like, no amount of fun or enjoyment should justify base Sword/Shield costing $60 and a full gen 8 title to cost $90. It's like one lucrative strategy was replaced with another (more deceptive) one. I cannot fathom how some people would still fight against this idea of not needing to spend more money
Why should we pay for the DLCs for sword and shield when they should of been part of game to begin with?? I never understood this! It’s like paying for game..then paying to unlock a chunk of it separately when that chunk should of been in the first payment of the total game. Most games do DLCs for money reasons as they need the money which I get and am fine with (they’re normally extra things unnecessary to the original game) but the Pokémon franchise doesn’t need extra money, they already make a buttload, so budget isn’t an issue whilst the DLCs just feel like a missing part of the games..They feel like postgame content that we have to pay for when they can very easily add them as an update for us to update our games to get or even make them free. They’re greedy little money stealers. They don’t care about us fans, they only care about our money.
While I can agree with making the initial game stronger dlc isn't going anywhere and that's just a fact of mondern gaming. It might suck but pokemon isn't what it was. It has evolved with the gaming industry and one of the side affects of this evolution is dlc. Also you can't just make super expansive dlc free. Esspashially in mondern times dlc isn't a quick update and cool little story for a legendary. Its a whole other expansive story. Gaming now is pay for the bass game, then you pay for expansions. If your argument is sometime the base games aren't going enough I can agree but you said break the cycle to pay more to make the game better. That's just never going to break. They add expansion you have to pay, a fact of mondern gaming my friend
@@mitchellima4736 That doesnt change the fact that over half of the stuff in the dlcs should have already been a part of the main game in sword and shield
Given the $40 Ninetales skin in Pokemon Unite... I don't think they care anymore. Yes, companies need to make money, and there are time/budget things to worry about, but how do they (in general, not just Nintendo) keep getting away with this? Just release the full finished game. I'd rather wait for them to finish and pay a decent amount for a single good game than having to unlock more of it behind a paywall because people can't wait and need to a constant stream of new things, which end up mediocre or unfinished as a result. I won't blame Nintendo for the pressure people put on them for that, but they are still playing into it when they could make the choice not to. Putting the extra effort and time into something will keep people entertained a lot longer, and they wouldn't have to make a new game so quickly. They're now stuck in eternal loop... And I don't want to downplay it, they do still make incredible things, like Breath of the Wild. It's just that their practices are so... lacking. In respect for some of what theyre doing, making once-great things devolve into a moneygrab.
Pokemon has never been best anything but for me it has always been my favorite. To me personally Pokemon is good just the way it is but can always be better by adding more.
@@ZZ-ex8py Can't I have an opinion? Do you think because I have a different opinion than you I've not played other games? If I specify more, I think Pokemon is the best at Monster designs and Pokemon music is my favorite music. Of course it's all up to personal opinion, but those are the two things that IMO Pokemon is the best at.
@@ZZ-ex8py Tbh Pokemon do not just have my favorite monster designs, but character designs in general. I just really think a lot of Pokemon are very well designed.
@@letsgetfluffy3138 you did not say pokemon had your favourite designs and music, you said they had the best designs and music. And im sorry to say, but they don't, it's not even close
On the roadblock thing: I like that once you got to the Wild Area in Sw/Sh, you could absolutely accidentally go into a greatly overleveled area. It instills a certain feeling of awe? Or something like that? And the fact that you're given Poke Dolls right before going into the Wild Area kinda sets you on edge a little bit. I like the idea of an area's natural level being in of itself a roadblock.
Im always glad to hear your opinions on pokemon because you act rational and have a realistic and multi-angled view on the situation you are talking about. A lot of Pokemon youtubers lack that!
Maybe there should be a mode where Pokemon disobey you when their level is high if you don't have enough badges, even if they aren't traded, but only if players want to turn that on.
While I do see the flaws, I personally loved SwSh, and it got me into a friend group and got me into working on a project with a friend of mine. Heck, even some of the new Pokemon, like Toxtricity, ended up becoming some of my new all-time favorites. Heck, even my favorite generation, which is gen 5, still has flaws, but I love it for the nostalgia it brings me as well as the fantastic Pokemon that were brought upon this gen, and even there are some aspects that I like about my least favorite generation, being gen 1, such as some of the Pokemon. Just goes to show that nothing is perfect.
I didn't really have a second favorite pokemon until gen 8 came around. I also liked a decent amount of the pokemon that were revealed before SWSH came out, like Corviknight and Impidimp (I was also intrigued by Rolycoly). I actually really like Kalos for whatever reason, and while I understand why a lot of people dislike XY, I feel more motivated to replay those games than SM/USUM. Different things appeal to different people, so yeah, it's impossible to make a perfect game.
I just love how constructive and honest Ron is. This is how an actual fan feedback should be, not rage-rants and wishlists that wouldn't make any sense for companies to pay attention to.
@@ShadowLightMewEndlessOceanMew You keep misreading these comments. They release Pokemon games every year. They're not developed every year, but they're still crunched into releasing a game every year
They do that to themselves since it has been proven that nobody asked GF to publish one game per year, not Nintendo, not TPCi, nobody except themselves
For as much flack as gen 5 got, I felt the story and difficulty were perfect. I felt more of a high beating Ghetsis than anything in the 3D games thus far.
i think the point is that humanoid isn't exactly wrong, but having a pokemon who looks like a character that would talk like a person or looks like an anime protagonist is an issue. Cinderace and Intelion both look like protagonists in a show. Machamp looks like a grunty lizard ape who only knows how to say his own name, and it also isn't obvious what he is based on. Cinderace? soccer playing rabbit. Intelion? spy Lizard. It's just too on the nose. It leaves no room for intrigue or imagination. They have too much in common with the most disliked of the OG mons, such as Mr Mime, and not as much as the beloved, such as Blastoise or Mewtwo or others that are bipedal and somewhat humanoid but also don't feel protagonist-y or too confined in terms of identity. To me, Lucario and Greninja are an example of being protagonist-y, but also a good pokemon because it's not too obvious what it is. It doesn't look like they're wearing clothes, like cinder-goddamn-ace or delphox. Another issue is pokemon based on relatively recent phenomena, such as soccer or James Bond. The best pokemon feel like they could've been around for centuries, as they supposedly have been. Ice cream cones haven't been around for centuries, so that's why an ice cream cone pokemon feels so out of place as a wild animal. its why a soccer-playing pokemon feels so out of place, they don't feel natural even in their own worlds, which is an issue that i don't think pokemon even realizes as a company. Imagine a flashback to 700 years ago and Dragonite is fighting a freaking rillaboom with its 20th-century drums and symbols and shit surrounded by knights and peasants and castles. Doesnt feel right or make sense, even in its own world. I think those in charge have forgotten what made pokemon so amazing, it was mostly its immersion, how easy it is to get lost in the game. When you have pokemon that instantly remind you what you're playing is made up because of how out of place they feel in their own environment--you have a pretty major a problem.
I remember seeing the point brought up somewhere of creature vs character problems with starter designs.. Like, seeing a big group of cinderaces or rillabooms or inteleons would feel kinda off because they feel almost... too special? Too distinctive? Whereas a pack of swampert or torterra feels more natural. I think this is more of an issue with final stages because I could definitely see a gang of scorbunny runnng around adorably committing arson
@@EtamirTheDemiDeer that is a great point, a really concise way of articulating my protagonist statement. I would actually love to use this take, I can certainly credit u with it if you don’t mind.
@@WinedandDined27 expanding on that take, I realized my two examples of more natural feeling final stages were both quadruped. For the record, multiple blastoise, multiple infernape, and even multiple blaziken and samurott (another quadruped oops lol) also feel natural And not to say that these aren’t strong designs. You could absolutely tell a serperior, an empoleon, or a venusaur from just the silhouette
I'm glad you mentioned the road blocks, because every time there is a need for one Pokemon has an opportunity to add or use something to flush out the world. Snorelax in R/B/Y is a good example, and the blackout in gen 6 would be a poor one. The first makes sense and comes from a Pokemon, the second is something that hinders no one traveling on foot, and is not explained or caused by a pokemon.
One major change. Make one version. They spend too much time on deciding which Pokémon is exclusive to this game and certain gym leaders. The legendary Pokemon should be obtainable in game. Experiment with a level cap. Do an event to gain more stats or something. Make the battles in real time. The ability to skip cutscenes.
@@dinosaurtimeandfunnyvideos Name one. Unless you just mean "button mash the b button" there's no "skip cutscene" button like in every other game series basically since the PlayStation
I’ve been saying it for years now, the “hand holding” to get from point A to B faster is not because GF thinks the player will get lost, its si ply a time saving measure. As it has been stated since ORAS, players dont have the time anymore, these shortcuts are in place to help veterans (adults with jobs etc) navigate through the game faster, its also great for speed runners!
This is so counterintuitive. Gamefreak is basically designing their own game so you can play it for less time. What game company wants that? Games should be played at your own pace, and if the game simply forces a pace on you, thats is just bad game design. And i know this because almost everyone that criticizes the newer games mentioned this.
@@ridiculousvic6324 Well for example competitive players are getting a lot from this, same as speedrunners as I mentioned before, less tedium is always good.
@@ridiculousvic6324 I may be misremembering, but I’m pretty sure you can say no every time a character asks if you want to be taken somewhere, it’s not even obligatory 🤷

2:43 yes. yes. A million times yes. I tried this in swsh and i have to say i had a blast planning out for each gym only using 3 pokemon. Its a rule in the anime, its a rule in competitive and i think it should be a rule in the league as well
I do that in every pokemongame tbh. Even in the elite 4 i don't want to use a 6th pokemon before the champ, to match the elite 4's 5 pokemon. Just feels wrong to win with sheer numbers.
What i want the most : -Good animations, i was so disappointed when i saw the attack animation of Espeon in sword and shield, he just moves his head a little, i had the really cool animation of Pokemon Colosseum in mind -Some structure in the fights, it's a 3D game on the most powerful nintendo console ever, it should have consistent 3D space with scaled pokemons etc, like in Pokemon Colosseum once again (or Pokemon Battle Revolution on Wii, and maybe even Pokemon Stadium on nintendo 64 or something like that i can't remember), the fights in sword and shield looks terrible in comparaison -Exploration, that's what really disappointed me in Sword and shield, there isn't any exploration at all, no ancient ruins, no giant volcano, no enormous caves, no snowy forests (DLC not included but even if you do it's way too small to feel like exploring anything), you just go from town to town, the wild areas are really cool but too small and pretty flat (no hidden passage or anything), and also there was a cool town in pokemon S&S named Ballonlea (i had to search for the name) which has a really cool design and seemed to had some works put on it, but there is nothing to do in it, I remember entering it, thinking "oh whoah this place looks really good", and going away after a few seconds because there is nothing to do, that was a shame -More lore for the legendaries, this point goes with the previous one, i loved learning about a deep ocean pokemon with huge power that lived inside a giant cave that needed some special ritual to summon, i'm talking about Lugia in Pokemon Silver (SoulSilver actually), same for Groudon and many others before, in S&S it feels rushed, actually the game pushes you away from the story because of the intervention of the champion of galar everytime something happens. -And of course great characters like N, a good rival that is actually challenging and doesn't let me heal my team before each fights, i remember struggling against the rivals of previous games, getting surprised by them at the end of a road when my pokemons were in a bad shape etc, and it was so cool

Also, difficulty settings are a GREAT idea. That would enable us vets to get more out of the gameplay before postgame, while keeping the series accessible to kids (as I firmly believe it should be.)
"Choice... The problem is Choice...!" Why is it always all or nothing with Gamefreak? Turning the EXP Share on or off is good, but why stop there? Why not give the player the option to chose which pokemon (if any) in their party gets shared XP? Why not bring back pokemon trailing behind you but you can chose which one (if any) instead of just the first one in your party? Why not have previous HMs not be mandatory but keep their overworld use so you can surf or fly with YOUR pokemon if you want?

How to fix:all pokemon problems ? Me:where’s your father ? (Excluding Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Pokémon Emerald and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire).
For the Challenge problem, I've had an Idea I've loved for some time; there's two options you can chose when starting the game; Novice and Veteran Novice is the typical game, you get introduced to the world, you have your new starter, and the game plays out as normal. Veteran option is a much harder scale of the game, with several new tweaks. You don't have all the hand-holding, a lot of what you said with the AI, and there's a whole new beginning. You're from another main-series region, which you chose after selecting the Veteran option. You then arrive in the starting city with a note on the desk from the professor of your home region, each with unique dialogue, saying that your team is safe and well, and that the new Regional Professor has asked for your help. You go to the Professor lab, and they tell you everything they know about the major plot of the game (Hinting to the villainous team, prompting you to where there's more research into the Legendary Pokemon, etc.) You are also invited to take on the Gym Challenge for this region, and to build your own team, which then prompts you getting a Starter Pokemon from this region. The Gym Leaders are informed you are an experienced trainer, and so they will have a significantly stronger roster and AI, as well as the whole Meta thing that you said. And while the first Evil Team battle will be easy, they go to their boss and say 'Hey, this guy/girl is a real savage in battle...' and from there on out, you don't often fight Grunts, (unless it's to 'stall for time' in which case you'll have long gauntlets of grunts back-to-back), instead, Admins will be the ones to primarily stop you. You aren't treated like an imbecile, and all HMs will be given to you early, the only thing that is really consistent with the Novice Game is the Pokemon you need to find to make your team. In the Veteran too, I would like the option for you to Join the Villainous team, being a great trainer, they'd be a fool to turn you away. ALSO YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO TELL OTHER TRAINERS "NO, I DON'T WANT TO BATTLE YOU!"
I think something like the Crown Tundra would make a neat postgame. Introduce a new area (obviously not as big as crown tundra) and give the player some clues to find new or old legendaries that could be in the new area and the familiar region
Thank you Ron for noticing the clear issues of Pokémon and giving fair and objective ways to fix flaws from the franchise we love! I agree with 100% with the changes you said in the video
Give us more options. That fixes like most of these problems. Are 2D sprites better or 3D? Should we get EXP share or not? Should the games be easy or more difficult? Just let us, the players, decide these things.
@@sergioserafim5107 exactly. Even a massive franchise like Dragon Quest is small compared to Pokemon. Plus, they would just reuse old sprites. Theres nothing wrong with them.

I’m glad someone else said it. I definitely Think we should all use the same amount of Pokémon in a battle. You have to be smarter about your choices and it feels much better
Id prefer the road blocks to be caused by the presence of really tough battles that one cannot beat yet, i think that would be interesting but idk how it would work
I really enjoyed this video (partially because of how surprised I am that you never called GF lazy), but also because of extensive and thorough it is. I hope GF does take more steps (and more time) into making a new Pokémon game that everyone can enjoy that isn't marred by baffling design decisions or controversy. And if GF remakes XY (if Pokémon ever lasts into 2040), I hope that they'll take certain aspects like the ones in this video and make it into the Pokémon it SHOULD have been because in it's current state, XY are the defining example of how not to make a Pokémon game and were the start of the controversial "Modern Pokémon" era.
It has been too long since I've seen a video that fully articulated everything that troubles me as a long term Pokemon fan. For the past year and a half, I've been pretty disappointed with Pokemon as a franchise and downtrodden by many Pokemon fans who claim things like "true fans" or would call me a hater or fake fan for trying to point out legitimate criticism and without or outright refusal to understand how much I want Pokemon to evolve. I hope you're right about Pokemon going towards the right direction, because I feel you really nailed it.
"True fans" should still criticize when there is obvious problems, which there has been in Pokemon for many years, Pokemon is the best selling franchise in the world with 90 billion, yet they are far behind in quality, why are they still selling 2 games? and why does it still have 2 different DLC's? lackluster animations, lackluster endgame, stupid gimmicks that are introduced half assed only to be removed by next gen and so on, is it really so bad to ask for more? now they ask for 60 bucks per game, that also means they have to deliver, but most Pokemon "fans" = braindead consumers would buy a turd as long as it is painted gold, the fact is, that it is still a turd...
@@PurpleDragon0628 yet they are still not part of the UN because the countries that matter most in the UN Security Council don’t approve of it. I agree. The story of those games was one of the better ones they had in any generation; although I have seen a fair number of people complaining that Lillie got the most focus of any character in the story rather than the player character did, but this has always been the way the the story of the game was written as I recall. I honestly enjoyed gen7 more than 6 or 8, and is the only one of those 3 generations that I have played through multiple times.
I think what you said about pokemon design is spot on, i personally really dont like inteleon, cinderace or mr. mime they just look like humans in animal costumes. And i think pokemon that are super gimmicky are also kinda dumb like i can see a wild group of torterra or charizard but i cant see wild cinderace or inteleon working. and this isnt really about new generations cus old gens did it aswell with alakazam or even gardevoir. And im not saying they shouldn't do humanoid pokemon but dont make starter pokemon evolve into humanoid pokemon. And i think you should be able to put a personality to a individual pokemon instead of all pokemon of that species having a set personality.
"If gamefreak is feeling adventurous" Ah. Yes. Haha it is a joke. Yes.... Gamefreak will go back to their corner now and stare at the wall, wondering why everyone yelling at them. Maybe we will add a new bird pokemon on route 1 to spice things up yes yes.
Going off your point about Pokemon feeling less like monsters and more like characters, there are ways to do both. They couldd make maybe 2 or 3 alternate models for each Pokemon with slight differences in appearance, so if you see the same Pokemon twice it will still have minor differences. For example, maybe a Sharpedo with a damaged fin or a Donphan with a broken tusk. Or if they don't want to go that far maybe just some different colours and patterns on their bodies.

Imagine a game where your Rival is shaped by how you treat them... They start off as standard, and depending on how you response to them or something they can be friendly or douches!!!
I love what Raihan did by being centered around a strategy moreso than a type. I think this is way more dynamic and can coexist with basic type based gyms. Maybe gyms could center around 2 or 3 types that fit into a strategy, like a psychic/fairy gym that uses a trick room team. One idea I thought of once was a gym that changes depending on your first pokemon, sort of like the first gym of black and white, but tweaked a bit. The entire team changes rather than just the ace, for one. If you picked the grass starter, it's a sun team. If you picked the water starter, it's a hail team. If you picked the fire starter, it's a rain team. But no matter what, the ace is castform
I feel like Gamefreak has realized that some of their most dedicated fans are people who make Pokesonas-and if you have one, more power to you-and there’s nothing wrong with rewarding your base, but IMO their focus on *making good sonas* has started to come at the expense of *making good monsters.* As you said, these feel like characters, not species. And I am *extremely* tired of humanoid-only final starters. I legit boxed my starter as soon as possible this gen, because my choices weren’t rabbit, lizard, or monkey, but soccer player, spy, or drummer.
I totally understand the whole humanoid pokemon situation.... But what about ghost-type pokemon? Those pokemon that can even be human souls that you can capture and use in battles? As much as I love Spiritomb, something about the whole "108 evil spirits trapped in a keystone" doesn't sit right. And here I am giving the sucker pokepuffs.
@@positiveanxiety8665 I'm incredibly biased because the Ghost type is far and away my favourite and I'm a lifelong horror fan, but I'm actually super down for the Weird Afterlife soul ecosystem Pokemon has going on here. Although I headcanon that "this used to be a human" lore only applies to some members of a given species; most ghost-types can breed, and I doubt that kids and lumberjacks start getting drawn into the woods en masse whenever someone leaves their Trevanant at the Nursery. Maybe your Spiritomb just has 216 evil spirits as parents :P
I like the idea of characters doing something other than their primary role, like Cheren being a Gym Leader who also fights with you against Team Plasma. It makes them feel active and fleshed out. I also think there could be characters that start out with minor roles and slowly gain a major one the more you progress through the game. Maybe a frail character like Wally goes on a journey but instead of becoming a better Trainer, they become one of the antagonists you face.
Add an option to disable Affection-style boosts (boosted critical rate, surviving at 1HP, shaking off statuses, etc) in battle. I really like Amie/Refresh/Camp, but I always have to avoid them because they can be so overpowered.
The 'seasons' gimmick really should've stuck.
You mean to tell me that *only* Unova experiences them?
Especially when in the player character's house in Galar has a fireplace that is basically useless because seasons were removed three generations ago! Seasons were a great addition, in my opinion; no clue why so many features are removed for no apparent reason
While I agree with this completely, it's kinda hard to imagine Circhester in summer. Maybe remove areas that appear to be stuck in the same season for all eternity? Maybe only certain areas would be affected by seasons? I don't know.

Honestly most of Pokémon’s major flaws can probably be fixed just by the developers taking more time and not trying to pump out one game per year
They weren't made in a single year though
@@ShadowLightMewEndlessOceanMew But they're still pumping out a game every year. Sword and Shield were in development since Sun and Moon's release in 2016, and in that time, they released a new title every year with USUM and LGPE. Not to mention, GameFreak only has just over 140 employees
That could be said about any major franchise game tho
@@K_Lateral They increased staff numbers during development actually so they had more people for the games
@@enzoassuncao8610 What if one parent was the Champion and the other was the villain? Think of their time during dinner together. XD
I still hope that some day, the rival could be precisly that, your sibling. That would open so much more possibilities in terms of story and dialogues (and of course, he/she would also be the other player, so, your twin).
Infinite potential here
This is what a true fan is in my opinion. Someone who loves a game(s) but can also point out their flaws.

That's sounds like a really fun idea, but would you think they would add little by little to those facilities? As the games go on
@@thekingbwdee3505 in this dream scenario the battle frontier would become cumulative, adding a facility each generation. So if it existed in SwSh it would include buildings for the first 7 gens, then Gen 9 would keep all that and add a facility for Galar. Possibly using a centralized app like Pokémon Home as the hub
@@catskills8553 would it be in the game or like a side thing you would get with the game cartridge?
@@thekingbwdee3505 haven’t really thought that through, I mostly just have facility ideas
@@catskills8553 sorry for asking that much, but I love that idea!
@chegg jeff well it's a lariat so it makes sense
@chegg jeff I only said that it makes sense
And they are reusing the same animations since X and Y. If they made some good animations they probably won't need to change them for a very long time
They did that in Stadium, so why can't they do it now?
So basically what everyone's been saying since forever, but said in a less radical way. It's good to have a fan, that is still enjoying Pokemon, supporting and giving more validity to the desires of us, who don't enjoy Pokemon the way it is anymore. Thanks. Great edits too. Just hinting at which features you were talking about, with clips, fleshed out the points you were making, with actual proof.

Love this guys pfp
I want them to bring back HMs but different, instead of one specific move like rock smash, you could use any fighting type move to break the rock
I'm pretty sure Pokemon Insurgence (A fanmade game) did that. It would be cool to see it in the official games too. Especially in 3D!
I think each Pokemon in your party should have a separate 4 move slots for JUST HM’s, still keeps HM’s but doesn’t neuter your teams move pool.
a fav fangame of mine called "pokemon reloaded" that isnt too much like a traditional pokemon game and its more of a fighting game of controlling your pokemon and dodging attacks has a pretty cool feature, "external habilities" once one of your pokemon learns an HM it gains an external hability respective to it, and the best part is that external habilities stay even if your pokemon forgets the move, so it will still be able to surf, fly, dig and break rocks at any given time without messing with the moveset of the pokemon
I have never liked more human pokemon. I loved it when they felt more like pocket monsters/animals than pocket buddies.
I completely agree.
For me if they are clearly based off an animal but are somewhat humanoid, then its fine, such as Inteleon
But if they are literally almost human like Sawk, then its bad
I always love getting your opinion and perspective on things because it seems unbiased, and still shows the love you have for pokemon. Great stuff.

I feel like a lot of these problems have to do with GameFreak time and time again thinking it’s fanbase is mostly kids, that’s what gets me
@person person in today’s society it’s different tho
There’s new fans and old fans, and imo it seems like GF is focusing more on the new fans and adding some old gen pandering to try to lure the old fans back into the franchise
Two words:
Multiple Difficulties
Yes, maybe a included nuzlocke mode
That’s pretty useless and counterintuitive. It’s like Classic Mode in Fire Emblem.
I would upvote but it’s at 69
Black 2/White 2's Challange Mode, but unlocked from the start.
And multiple save files
For starters, please please please lessen the amount of hand-holding. I know how to catch a Pokemon, dammit!
Here the pokeballs, Bye" or Something like that, if you say no he would teach you
Its so Simple man
Catching tutorial could be skipped in sword and shield if you caught a Pokémon before the tutorial. So I guess they are at least kinda working on that. Despite them having it right all the way back in GSC with a Yes or no option.
But little Timmy! Think of the *children*
The games is for kids, man! Most of them don’t know how....
@person person Another idea: Make a separate slot for HM's, two per pokemon, so they'd have four slots for their attacks and two others for the hm's.
The more I dive into this topic, the more I miss Pokemon's DS era. My heart hurts.
Thank you for your hard work!

If that how hop was, it would be perfect
Edit: I’m not saying in any way that hop is a bad character.

Hmmm yeah
The original games had that! If your Pokémon was too high a level it wouldn’t listen during battle.

I think you might be my doppelganger you just said everything I stand for
I didn't really have a second favorite pokemon until gen 8 came around.
The Gen 8 Pokémon designs are phenomenal, and that’s coming from a guy who hates Gen 8 with a passion
I just love how constructive and honest Ron is. This is how an actual fan feedback should be, not rage-rants and wishlists that wouldn't make any sense for companies to pay attention to.
The biggest problem is that the game developers don't get enough time to make a good game.

WELL RON
i think the point is that humanoid isn't exactly wrong, but having a pokemon who looks like a character that would talk like a person or looks like an anime protagonist is an issue.
@@WinedandDined27 go right ahead! It’s technically not even my point lol I just elaborated on it some
@@WinedandDined27 expanding on that take, I realized my two examples of more natural feeling final stages were both quadruped. For the record, multiple blastoise, multiple infernape, and even multiple blaziken and samurott (another quadruped oops lol) also feel natural
And not to say that these aren’t strong designs. You could absolutely tell a serperior, an empoleon, or a venusaur from just the silhouette
@@EtamirTheDemiDeer thanks! And yea, I totally know what u mean and agree.
How to fix problems of pokemon: make ron the ruler of the company
This really was a spot on assessment. Nice work Ron! You are one of my favorite channels on the Tube
You can skip cutscenes in sword and shield

The best way to fix Pokémon’s problems is to give us sinnoh remakes
@Risto Erm nobody has, and nobody will for next 13 minutes
Just not this gen, there's so much wasted potential that would be reflected onto the remakes
They’d just fuck it up though
I lowkey want gen 9 before sinnoh remakes
Besides, i dont think they're gonna make a remake for the 25th birthday of the franchise
No, that won’t fix anything, or if it does, it will be because game freak made a better game, not because it’s a Sinnoh Remake.
@@MxGerryNava exactly, because if your not those, like most who are casual players, its simply annoying

2:43 yes.
What i want the most :
-Good animations, i was so disappointed when i saw the attack animation of Espeon in sword and shield, he just moves his head a little, i had the really cool animation of Pokemon Colosseum in mind
-Some structure in the fights, it's a 3D game on the most powerful nintendo console ever, it should have consistent 3D space with scaled pokemons etc, like in Pokemon Colosseum once again (or Pokemon Battle Revolution on Wii, and maybe even Pokemon Stadium on nintendo 64 or something like that i can't remember), the fights in sword and shield looks terrible in comparaison
-Exploration, that's what really disappointed me in Sword and shield, there isn't any exploration at all, no ancient ruins, no giant volcano, no enormous caves, no snowy forests (DLC not included but even if you do it's way too small to feel like exploring anything), you just go from town to town, the wild areas are really cool but too small and pretty flat (no hidden passage or anything), and also there was a cool town in pokemon S&S named Ballonlea (i had to search for the name) which has a really cool design and seemed to had some works put on it, but there is nothing to do in it, I remember entering it, thinking "oh whoah this place looks really good", and going away after a few seconds because there is nothing to do, that was a shame
-More lore for the legendaries, this point goes with the previous one, i loved learning about a deep ocean pokemon with huge power that lived inside a giant cave that needed some special ritual to summon, i'm talking about Lugia in Pokemon Silver (SoulSilver actually), same for Groudon and many others before, in S&S it feels rushed, actually the game pushes you away from the story because of the intervention of the champion of galar everytime something happens.
-And of course great characters like N, a good rival that is actually challenging and doesn't let me heal my team before each fights, i remember struggling against the rivals of previous games, getting surprised by them at the end of a road when my pokemons were in a bad shape etc, and it was so cool
There's already great characters in SwSh tho

Also, difficulty settings are a GREAT idea. That would enable us vets to get more out of the gameplay before postgame, while keeping the series accessible to kids (as I firmly believe it should be.)
"Choice... The problem is Choice...!"
Why is it always all or nothing with Gamefreak?

For the Challenge problem, I've had an Idea I've loved for some time; there's two options you can chose when starting the game; Novice and Veteran
Novice is the typical game, you get introduced to the world, you have your new starter, and the game plays out as normal.
6:41 "Gamefreak creates a web" *shows a spiderweb* this is amazing lol
I’d like a game with a totally out of left field ending but if you engage with the environment and connect some dots, it makes perfect sense.

A really good video ! I wouldn't agree with some points but overalls I think that your video is a great summary of what we need for the next pokemon.

The base game of sword and shield should’ve only been $30
Or the DLC should've been there from the start
Add an option to disable Affection-style boosts (boosted critical rate, surviving at 1HP, shaking off statuses, etc) in battle. I really like Amie/Refresh/Camp, but I always have to avoid them because they can be so overpowered.
