    My pet peeve is why serve a Thanksgiving meal in a restaurant called Garden Grill. Doesn't make any sense to me. It makes sense at Liberty Tree Tavern. You would think a place called Garden Grill would serve innovative and creative food made with fresh vegetables and baked dishes just as they sell in the flower and garden festival. This restaurant needs a complete overhaul including a change in characters. Mickey is everywhere. Why not put in Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh representing a garden. I digress.

      With a name like garden grill, I would expect much more Veggie/Vegan food with a focus on plants instead of mock meats. Doing like a "Catch of the day" type meal but instead of fish, it's seasonal vegetables. Think like Pumpkin in the autumn, Parsnips in the Winter, Asparagus in the spring and Peppers in the summer. Bring it back to being about gardening. In relation to the characters, I think this would be amazing for possibly the Pixies/Tinker bell characters considering they are based around nature or possibly the Alice in wonderland characters.

      @@jenblack98 I agree with Daniel above and love your suggestions as well! Showcasing vegetables at their peak would make the meal extra flavourful and share wtih guests the benefits of eating foods when they're in season (kind of the same two points haha.) Like a beautiful corn and tomato salad with fresh bread or a pasta with broccoli or eggplant (literally getting these ideas from the fantastic cookbook "Six Seasons" - from the summer sections.)

    Maybe the folks in the kitchen are nostalgic for the canned cranberries of their childhood? They think it's supposed to taste like that?

    Love me some BFP (and especially his description here of the mac & cheese being a "congealment" - genius!!!) LOL, and Federico is a total FEAST for my eyes, and that accent - oooh baby!!! - but I can't help thinking about Fiasco here, and wishing he was with you. Hope he continues to do well, and will be back eating here soon - especially his beloved Mickey cinnamon bread at breakfast.
    But - nice job, all, and nice mixture of folks. I've always had wonderful meals here, with good service, and fantastic character interaction.
    At least - if you had multiple servings - this would be CLOSER to being worth $55/person than that shabby lunch at the new Space restaurant for the same exact price!! And I agree, Pete, I've always LOVED Whispering Canyon, and would go out of my way to have at least one meal there per vacation!

    For a family with kids that are picky eaters that want to meet characters and (pre-pandemic) didn't want to wait hours in line to meet Mickey and also had the novelty of having the scenery change, this is the perfect getaway/break from walking around all morning or afternoon. I know a bunch of childless guys will have a different set of standards, but this is more memorable and a good value if you have kids.

    If you go to this restaurant you are completely insane with all the great options you have in Epcot. If you have children and are looking for character interaction there are better places to spend your money. Pete's review of "forgettable" is accurate with other places as well with this type of dining. Just ate at Ohana and had the same mediocre experience. Food was just ok, not worth the price. Quantity isn't a substitute for quality in my opinion. Go to Citricos, had an amazing meal.

    • @BroadwayDreamer89

  • @brclyn
    @brclyn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    From watching several reviews, from several different vloggers, it seems that with the price hikes the quality has deteriorated. Could that be that maybe Disney is unable to source the standard of food from before the pandemic, or is it that they have not been able to coax back the chefs they used to have?

  • @weedle77d40
    @weedle77d40 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Pre-covid- when it had a breakfast seating it was one of our favourite places! We used to go at least 2x a trip for breakfast and once for lunch/dinner. The characters often come around 2-3 times so for that it is well worth the visit if you have kids.
    We went twice in August for lunch. Once was exceptional and the second time it was not good at all. The quality of the food was even visually different than the last visit and it was only 10 days apart. The food tasted.. stale. The second time around the meat was rubbery and dry and the mac and cheese tasted different. There was also a missing character second time around which sucks as you do go there for the characters.
    The dessert was a big hit with us but we do prefer the cobbler as it used to be. Another hit was the character interactions.. even socially distanced. 10/10
    Sad to see it is so inconsistent. I think that the skillet needs to be more ‘farm’ esque.. maybe corn bread, roasted chicken, sausages, eggs cut up in the salad… and I do feel there could be a shake-up and have some variety with the characters. They could throw in Rabbit and Eeyore now and then to make a more ‘animal/farm’ element. Love chip and dale though!! Miss them at 1900Park Fare, 20+years ago when I was a child they used to be there!!

    I don't understand why Disney keeps cheapening their meals by adding on cheap foods like Gold Fish and candy gummies (seen this twice in Disneyland videos: the Jungle Cruise sundae and sadly sitting beside some mediocre-looking desserts as part of an Oogie Boogie Bash dessert party for $84!! Oh, and the Pop Rocks on Deni's drink at Space 220.) Why would you do this? Just leave it off, it will look much better! It's too bad the meal wasn't great, as the Dis' old reviews (pre pandemic) actually made me want to eat there.

The Turkey....remember 'no the turkey is made on site' is code for 'we got the bag from sysco and threw it the smoker with hickory smoke rub' and 'it's hand sliced' is code for 'we have a big sandwich slice machine that also does thick slices. (Which Publix will do for you to).

My kids didn’t care for the mac and cheese, I thought the steak wasn’t great, and the gravy was way too salty. We didn’t have the corn, which was fine with us. The bread was fresh though, and the butter that came with it was good. The character interaction was pretty decent- we saw them each twice- in the course of 45 min!!

    Back whenever my late Mom and I went to WDW 15-25 years ago, we would always go to Garden Grill once a trip. When I went back after her death n recent years I just couldn't justify the price of the GG to do so. Judging from this review, I was definitely right to pass on this.

  • @TheFtm22
    @TheFtm22 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very disappointing to see what GG is serving. I loved this restaurant but the food doesn't look like what I remember at all. I can say that they were very willing to prepare us a skillet of meat without the sauces and provide those on the side because I prefer to use so much less than what is normally served. I remember the cobbler as well and that was MUCH better than that sad looking shortcake thing. Finally, they used to have character interaction second only to Tusker House and on par with Crystal Palace but now it just looks sad to me. We did that stunt in college with a dessert that NEVER fell out of the bowl. :-) Thanks for taking one for the team.

    Being that this restaurant is in The Land pavilion, I would focus on making sure that none of the food tastes like out of a can and instead tastes like farm to table. If so, this place would be a hit! You have chickens/animals/nature around you as you rotate!! Come on it’s a no brainer.

    I'm disappointed to see that it's not what it used to be, because in the past it was rated high in a character meal poll, and you guys did a review on Breakfast and liked it better than you expected. Then you did a dinner review and it was a mixed to positive reception. Now this time around it's mixed to negative. I hope they bring back the Breakfast because I would go to that, but until I've tried everything in Epcot, this may be my last stop, but not because of the characters, because of what's being served. It could be a more unique menu and serve more unique things. It's literally the same food as Liberty Tree Tavern and it's nothing special if it isn't different. Makes me wonder if Liberty Tree Tavern has gone downhill as well? I've never been but I'd love to see a re-review of that place. Also, let's get Pete into Enzo's Hideaway to see how much he hates it! LOL

    For people who have very mixed reviews on this place you sure come here a lot

    This uses to be a great meal, made better by the character interaction. I'm sick of these "skillet" meals opening up a can of corn like its a school cafeteria lunch. And for the love of Disney stop pouring chimmichurri sauce over every beef dish.
