Hey Kelly - I am sorry you didn't have the race you hoped for and I am glad that you feel proud of yourself . Your honesty is refreshing and inspiring to us all. You and Matt will have an amazing time in London. Look forward and not back - I for one can't wait for the next series 😃
From another type one diabetic, I can't run at all with blood sugars above 20, let alone finish a marathon! Everything that you have acomplished on this journey is incredible! You are a huge inspiration, keep it up!
I can't even begin to express how much respect I have for you after having listened to how you have dealt with this disappointment. Anyone who has followed your journey will have absolutely no doubt that you will take the positives from this and move on towards achieving your goals. Well done!
Onwards and upwards! Sometimes race day just isn't your day and it can be heartbreaking, but all your training hasn't gone to waste. Thank you for sharing your race recap, it's not easy facing the fact that things didn't go to plan. But it's important for people to see others sometimes experience this as well and to realize there will be another race. Massive congrats on finishing!
The fact you completed a marathon feeling so ill says such a lot about you than you realize. Your resolve and determination to finish is incredible and is to be greatly admired. Those of us who have followed your journey have seen the highs and lows but you never lost that enthusiasm. The most important journeys are sometimes the most difficult but its a risk worth taking. Well done Kelly.
Many of us have been there Kelly, it's one of the cruelties of the marathon when you give it your all for months of hard work but the outcome hangs on one weekend. Really admire your attitude and how you still found positives from what was clearly a tough day. Doesn't detract from your considerable achievements on the way. Your followers are proud and I hope you are too. Enjoy London. I'll be there too, that's my goal race for the autumn and hopefully things work out. Keep at it, there's clearly lots more to come from your running. And thanks for letting us be part of the experience.
Massive respect for finishing and for sharing the experience Kelly. The marathon is always a tricky beast. No matter how well you prepare your body can always decide to let you down at the crucial moment. Your positivity is impressive and I look forward to following your journey as you progress towards your goals. Good luck and enjoy London!
I really really enjoyed following your story. I had many laundry days changing out the wash and folding while listening to your training vlogs! I have been motivated in my training by you and find many similarities in our running. Well done for sticking with it, even through the bumps, and I hope you continue to find joy in your running!
Brilliant video. I’ve been in that hurt locker before in one marathon when I knew it was all over after 10miles and walked the last 16miles. It is a depressing lonely place even though there are thousands around you. Fair play to you for finishing. You never gave up and that’s something to be proud of.
Congratulations Kelly, hoping you aren't going over this race anymore. Its hard to get over something special but thats why we have to do it. Your race is still remarkable, you didn't give up despite unideal conditions and honestly (and a bit selfishly) we enjoyed your overall journey/training for it. You lead by example Kelly, and your kids are so cute to do those drawings on shoes. This video has HAPPINESS written all over it. Best. Always!
So proud of you for finishing and being brave enough to share your struggles. The marathon is a beast and you just never know what race day will bring. You did amazing training and it just wasn't your day. Hope London is so much fun for you!!!
Unlucky Kelly!! But super impressed with with your determination to finish as well as all your hard work during the training block. Definitely think you’ve made a lot progress over the last few months so there’s a lot of positives to take away 👍
Another great vlog. I love following your journey Kelly. You inspire me so much. Can't wait to see more. Well done for hanging on in there even when things were so tough. X
Oh my darling. This is so lovely. What a bloody day out there. Tough day at the office and I’m actually gutted I didn’t catch you out on the course. Our time will come. Onwards 💪 xx
Thank you for sharing your journey Kelly. You are such a brave person for putting this out here for everyone to see. I have followed your journey and am coached by Matt and have loved seeing how you have got on in your training, the sessions you have been running, as I would love a 3.30 time aswell. I am confident you will get your sub 4 time and then push on for the BQ time as you have the most amazing mental strength and attitude. Looking forward to seeing what your marathon options are. Take time to rest mentally and enjoy London this weekend xxx
Well done Kelly first of all for completing the marathon. Let alone with the stomach bug and the heat on top of that Good Luck for London You're such an inspiration!
You did amazingly well to finish Kelly. You should be very proud, most would’ve DNF’d. We live and learn and you’ll come back even stronger. Must admit, I felt a but teary when Matt shouted out your name and you went to give him a hug, must’ve been super emotional for you both. You’ll smash the BQ one day, keep believing in yourself. Your subscribers believe in you 💪
You finished! Great job. Was really hot on Sunday.. so not walk in the park at all. Be proud of yourself!!!!! Was awesome to see u at K34 and cheer you on a bit. Cheers from Berlin Germany 🇩🇪 jan
It's really hard to run a marathon if you spent the prior day with Mr T, Kelly!!! You did awesome. Many people would have DNFd. Congratulations on your finish! You are a Rockstar
Kelly, I started watching you and Matt in the middle of 2020 when I was home more because of the pandemic and have been following your journey. I too am on a journey to BQ that I feel I have been working on for almost 20 years since I started running. I think I am pretty close, but my October 17 race probably won't be a BQ, but if things go to plan, it will be a sub 4. I am older than you so I only need a sub 3:50 to qualify, so hopefully I can do it in the spring with a better training cycle. I so admire all your hard work and I think if the weather is better and your stomach and other things work out, you can definitely get that sub 4 in London, if you decide to go for it. You gutted it out on a tough day that most people would have quit on. You were gritty like your mantra said. I was tracking you and watching your times while I was doing my last 20 mile long run (with time different between Berlin and Boston). Keep fighting and going for it and you will get there in your quest for Boston for Preston. I will be supporting you and know that you are supporting those of us that follow you.
Whilst finishing shows your determination, if anyone has diarrhoea the day before a marathon, don't run. And if it is a really hot day (I did it so I know) then really don't run.
Well done considering all the things you had to go through just to get to the start line!! It's great how you have a positive attitude about it and the fighting Spirit to continue on and eventually get that BQ!! Upwards and onwards!!👍👍😁😁
You’ve done such an amazing job Kelly! I’m sorry it didn’t go as planned and I really admire your attitude about it. Doesn’t get more uncontrollable than the freaking weather, that’s for sure. Fantastic job finishing and keeping your head up!
Well done Kelly, it must have been hard making that video! I know how tough it is running a marathon in the heat but add a bad tummy into the mix, nightmare. You did amazing to even finish. Like you say, onwards and upwards xxxx
Loved the vlog, loved the honesty, you did amazing considering the circumstances! And I have to say I saw your insta post about your watch screen for London and I reckon that’s a super sensible decision, just go enjoy the day!! Keep on being honest and true…. It sets you apart 👏
i love your channel and your spirit, i honestly felt your pain, most of us have been there and we need time to reflect and move on, you are one tough determined runner and i wish you all the very best for your future running goals, enjoy the journey especially London next week, best wishes from Somerset,
You did amazingly well, Kelly given the conditions and everything that happened. Takes some grit and determination to carry on and you did it, you should be proud of yourself. Hope London goes well!
I know the race wasn't what you wanted it to be Kelly. Believe me, if you've been running for a while, we've all hit that point at some point in our running careers. I know on my last marathon I was undertrained, it was warm and something didn't agree with me (either hydration and / or food) but I bailed out at mile 13 and shuffled 5.5 more miles to the finish. I was really downtrodden and upset about it -- for several weeks afterwards. But as time went on, I accepted it and have moved on. I've had more successes in running than failures and I'll continue to have plenty more great races and not so great ones. It happens. I think you made the most of a rough situation and I am glad that you finished and you are able to talk about it. Videos like this one are reminders that the marathon isn't a trivial event and you can put your best training in and sometimes it still doesn't work out. Wishing you the best and I really liked the video a lot. I think your training has made you stronger and faster and even if this marathon didn't work out, I have a suspicion you are going to have some phenomenal times this fall.
Well done Kelly, amazing effort to finish. My heart goes out to you, my one and only marathon so far went horrifically wrong due to injury and I know how horrible it is. Your journey has been so inspiring so far and you still have much further to go!
Thank you very much for such a candid recap. Really well done for toughing it out, a marathon is such a physical test at the best of times! Very best wishes for your next goals.
Well done Kelly, marathons are beasts especially hot ones. It’s an incredible achievement to complete it particularly as you’d been so ill beforehand. Regroup and come back stronger you’ve backed so much quality training for this one.
Kids will be proud of you and love no matter what result, the medal is just a piece of metal! What happens on the day is almost out of your hands, all you can do is put the pieces in place.
Tracked you and Matt the whole way and could just tell something wasn't right, but you finished and put a bloody great couple of vlogs out about it! To even finish in that heat and being so dehydrated shows massive strength of character! I've loved following your vlogs and can't wait to see what you plan next! If you fancy a 50K in the Scottish Highlands next year, you'll have a friend there too 😝🥴
Congrats to your amazing efforts to finish the Berlin marathon. I know exactly how you feel. I ran the Berlin marathon too. I started with problems with my muscles. After 27km I struggled to get to the finish. 18 weeks of hard work to get problems 1 week before the marathon. But this experience will make us stronger for our next run. You did great. You delivered a big fight. And YOU won!!!
I knew you would finish it xxxx You trained so hard for this , I'm sorry it didn't go to plan 😔 But so pleased you got your medal 🏅 That shows how much grit and determination you have . I can't wait to see what else you will be training for ,I've really enjoyed watching your videos 😀 Have a great run in London and I hope I see you there 👍 😀 Huge huge well done to yourself and Matt xx
I always get so emotional watching marathons! thank you Kelly! loved your race vlog! Big love to you! Always a star and an inspiration! onto the next one! Well done! Oh if you are at the expo please pop into the Hoka store and say hi to Stacey! She is a friend who is an ambassador for Hoka!
I know you were disappointed and now you've moved passed it but I still just have to say YOU ARE WONDER WOMAN!!! We don't view you as someone who ran a "poor" marathon, we view you as someone who RAN A MARATHON!!!! You gave birth to human beings and now run multiple km. It's incredible, you're inspiring ❤️ KEEP GOING WONDER WOMAN!!!!
Oh that was a hard day in the office the heat would have been a real killer you did so well to finish but leaves you in a good position recovery wise for London this weekend well done and I hope the disappointment fades we do learn a lot from these runs. Enjoy the rest of the week and good luck at the weekend for London
That feeling when the race has got away from you is terrible, I’ve been there a few times. It takes guts to get to the finish from there!! Be proud of yourself x
I had one of those marathons last January. I was down and out with Covid the first week of Jan, "ran" the marathon the last week, which ended up being my worse finishing time of 5:20. It was brutal! But we move on! I'll be watching your future races like I had this one!
Well done for finishing! I had the same experience on the day as yourself, so very hot it was just silly and couldn't cool down, but we got medals and memories! On to the next 👍
This reminded me of my first marathon in Rotterdam when it was also very hot. Completely came to a standstill and had to cool down and walk for a while. I said no marathons for me anymore but I have run a lot more marathons since. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger! Good recovery and don't let it get into your head too much. Next marathon will be a new experience with new challenges.
Massive well done for getting over the finish line Kellie that couldn’t have been easy - the heat defiantly adds insult to injury when ur not on top form - this is not the end it’s Just the beginning …..and it’s a great practice run for London …… have a blast hun ……. And well done again 😘😘😘
Great honest video 👍🏻🏃🏼♀️ well done for finishing looked really tough 😬 I’m running London & is my 1st marathon 😳 will be more like run/walk for me because of niggles but I’m ok with that just want to get round & get that medal 🙈 x
Well done Kelly you got the medal when it would’ve been easier to quit..I remember doing GNR 4 years ago and felt awful and ended up having to walk it in..it makes you stronger and you’ll be back better and quicker than ever
With all that against you you did amazingly to finish. Be bloody proud! I'm doing London and I'm also looking to just go out and enjoy it, rather than aim for a time, after a very stressful few months. Heading down Saturday from Derbyshire so will keep an eye out at the expo. ❤️
Keep at it! You gave it your best but just got short changed on race day. Took me 10 tries to get a BQ and needed perfect conditions. And now I’m preparing to fail miserably at a sub3 run in 3 weeks. But then it’s all for fun, so I’m rather blasé about racing and am never disappointed (save Philly 2014). Come to think of it, its really amazing how much needs to go right to pb a marathon….
Got sick the week before Berlin ‘22 and got on antibiotics. Don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but I bonked and cramped & crawled the second half lol My worst experience at a marathon. The second half was miserable. I wanted to DNF but finished, and glad I didn’t quit. I understand you. Funny I thought I trained well and expected Berlin to be my fastest run. Marathons are unpredictable. It was humbling, but I probably needed it. Embrace the journey good or bad. It’s part of your unique story
Well done! Big thumbs up for your amazing perseverance despite pre-run problems. I was running too and it was HOT HOT HOT. The struggle was real 😜 Upwards and onwards
Great vlog. I ran tjw Marathon, also starting in block H. There were so many features in tbe vlog that I can remember, even the little bottle with the Danish flag. Hoped for a time of around 4:10 but sadly I suffered severe cramp after about Km26 and walked/ran/hobbled/crawled the remaining distance. Like you, giving up was not an option and I was determined to reach the finishing line of my 8th Berlin Marathon. My first race here was in 1986 with "only" 9000 runners so all those runners under 35 were not even born then. After reaching the finishing line I collected my bag and lay down on the grass just to rest. When I got up I suffered a circulatory collapse and fell unconscious on the ground where fellow runners and first responders cared for my wellbeing. Was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured skull but all tests were fortunately negative and I was discharged at 1:30am the following morning. I liked the part where you analysed what had happened and this considerably lifted my spirits. I hope to be at the 2022 Berlin Marathon. Keep up the good work. I have my own channel containing videos made running local races here in Germany but most are 10 or more years old when video resolution was still HD or worse.
Heard from so many friends that the heat plus humidity was really hard. You did the best out of the situation and I think you can be proud about yourself. PS: sorry for Bad english 😬😬
Sheesh, cramp the night before after a day of too many toilet trips would make me so anxious before it even started, but sugars over 20 throughout I don't think I would have had the mental strength to finish. (am t1d too). Amazing stuff Kelly, and I didn't even mention the heat... Congratulations, what an experience. PS races and specifically race times don't actually matter, to anyone but ourselves, you know that, but you also know when one clicks you'll smash a super fast time. You most definitely don't need to prove anything to any sweaty little window lickers in bedsits in Basingstoke 🤷
Had a similar experience (food poisoning the day before) at Sacramento marathon a few years back. Months of training all the planning for a PR etc. Thought I got away with it until about half way when the wheels came off. I would have DNFed if I could find a way to get bussed back somewhere but didn't and finished in the end. Looking back now it was one of the many diverse experiences of training and long distance running. A powerful memory along with the great days when everything goes well. The bad days only make the great days better.
Hey Kelly - I am sorry you didn't have the race you hoped for and I am glad that you feel proud of yourself . Your honesty is refreshing and inspiring to us all. You and Matt will have an amazing time in London.
Look forward and not back - I for one can't wait for the next series 😃

Congratulations on crossing the finish and making it through and all the best for London, hoping the weather is kinder 🙏
Thanks so much! 😊

Congratulations Kelly. Finishing when it goes sideways takes courage and grit. Mom's are the toughest people I know!

Congrats on finishing and never giving up. I am training for my 1st marathon and your videos are very inspirational. Thank you!
Thank you Amanda! Hope the training is going well for you! ☺️
I really really enjoyed following your story. I had many laundry days changing out the wash and folding while listening to your training vlogs! I have been motivated in my training by you and find many similarities in our running. Well done for sticking with it, even through the bumps, and I hope you continue to find joy in your running!
Well done Kelly. I feel your disappointment, but your resilience is strong. Have lots of fun in London.
Thank you Julie! Van't wait to go and enjoy the streets of London!
You should be so proud of yourself, love watching your journey and you will come back stronger and you will get to Boston …#trustheprocess 😊

I don't think I could finish a marathon at full health. Finishing with what you went through is amazing. Great effort!
Congratulations Kelly, hoping you aren't going over this race anymore. Its hard to get over something special but thats why we have to do it. Congrats for crossing the finish line, I can't even imagine how tough it must have been in this heat!
Thank you Chloe! It was a tough day, but Berlin did look beautiful in the sunshine! 😍
Unlucky Kelly!! But super impressed with with your determination to finish as well as all your hard work during the training block. Definitely think you’ve made a lot progress over the last few months so there’s a lot of positives to take away 👍
Well done Kelly for getting through. You should be proud of what you've achieved under the circumstances and you got your medal!
Well done for finishing, Kelly! Glad you had a friend to keep you company! 💜

When you said 'Mamas don't quit', that made me feel emotional. Really well done for getting it done!
Amazing,, she has some guts for acceptance.. I am running London marathon tomorrow.. this made my day, thanks..
Kelly, Congratulations on finishing in tough conditions. Momma's don't quit. I'm sure your kids are proud. 💪
Thank you! They are...the medal has duly been taken into school 😄
Anyone who does the training and toes the start line has already won.
Muy cierto...that is very true...saludos
🙌
You finished! Great job. Was really hot on Sunday.. so not walk in the park at all. Be proud of yourself!!!!! Was awesome to see u at K34 and cheer you on a bit. Cheers from Berlin Germany 🇩🇪 jan

I very much enjoyed your journey. I think your perspective is spot on. Enjoy your London run.
Thank you! Will do!
CONGRATULATIONS

Fantastic video
Many of us Brits in wave H had problems with the heat. Glad you finished. I got injured about halfway which kept reoccurring until the end too
It's really hard to run a marathon if you spent the prior day with Mr T, Kelly!!! You did awesome. Many people would have DNFd. Congratulations on your finish! You are a Rockstar
Good to hear from you! I look forward to cheering you (and others on) this Sunday. Hope to see you out on the course :)

Thank you so much for the support Tom! Was a tough day, but an incredible experience ☺️
I'm gutted for you but delighted for you for finishing. Thank you for sharing your experience 😘

Have a great run in London and I hope I see you there 👍 😀
Huge huge well done to yourself and Matt xx
Well done on getting through it. Shit happens but your day will come. Keep the faith Kelly
Well done. The mental is far harder than the physical. Onwards and upwards. Another Major ticked off.
Imagine how great the next one will be.
You made that Finish Line!! Well done that medal was earned!!! 💪👣
Sorry Kelly! Congratulations on digging deep and finishing the race!!! Good luck for London.
Kelly, you’re brilliant! Don’t forget that!
Oh that was a hard day in the office the heat would have been a real killer you did so well to finish but leaves you in a good position recovery wise for London this weekend well done and I hope the disappointment fades we do learn a lot from these runs. Enjoy the rest of the week and good luck at the weekend for London
congratulations on completing it. many wouldnt have. on to the next goal xx
Thank you ☺️ xx
That feeling when the race has got away from you is terrible, I’ve been there a few times. It takes guts to get to the finish from there!! Be proud of yourself x
Great effort and attitude!
2 years ago when I ran it it was cooler but it started raining in my last hour of running, after Bekele won it 😀
I had one of those marathons last January. I was down and out with Covid the first week of Jan, "ran" the marathon the last week, which ended up being my worse finishing time of 5:20. It was brutal!
But we move on! I'll be watching your future races like I had this one!
Great job on a tough finish. I think we all have been there when things like that go wrong. You did great and finished strong.
Hello Carly, long time no see... well done the both of you!
Well done for finishing! I had the same experience on the day as yourself, so very hot it was just silly and couldn't cool down, but we got medals and memories! On to the next 👍
I feel your pain! I ran London in 2018, a similarly hot race. There will always be another 26.2 miles to run. Well done Kelly on getting the finish.
RESPECT.......
Thank you Paul!
Don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but I bonked and cramped & crawled the second half lol
My worst experience at a marathon.
Brilliant, well done 👍
Good job!! You finished!!
Still a great achievement to complete, be proud 😃💪
Thank you Phil! ☺️ head held high!
