After getting fed up with GoPro’s audio issues, I decided to put my money where my mouth is and try something different. The biggest selling point? A built-in wireless mic-no more annoying clipping or dodgy external setups.
Join me as I take the Action 5 Pro for a proper real-world ride test, checking out different noise reduction settings and seeing how well it holds up against wind, engine noise, and rough terrain.

I have a confession, I was recently sent a couple of the Action 5 Pro’s and the DJI Mic Mini’s plus the Osmo Pocket 3 which comes with a full size DJI Mic. DJI’s products are top notch. The sound quality when on the bike is better with no background noise cancellation in my opinion, it gives a more balanced level between your voice and the sound of the bike.
For me the battery time of virtually three hours with the Action 5 Pro V’s about an hour with the GoPro battery is a no brainer, plus as you say the wireless mic option is a game changer. I’ve used GoPro’s for as long as I can remember but I think they’ve had their moment and are no longer at the top of their game. 👍

i recognise the first lane , near bouth where we used to knockabout as a child and rode it several times in recent years , used to live in backbarrow .
i have gone from gopro to dji and have the action 3 currently .

As expected, the high NR setting damages the signal and degrades your voice. Off and medium were both good. I prefer the DGI cams image stabilization to the Insta which strangely bends the edge. No comment about the poor old GoPro cams 😀

What do you think about the launch of the KTM 390s ?

@ Lighter than the 450 MT and the 790 with just enough horsepower to be decent on and off road. It’s never going to be a 500 exc or, even a 300L but it looks like it might be the sweet spot if they get the suspension right. If riders aren’t intending to tackle anything too gnarly they look like they fit the bill - if a T7 can do it, Id imagine the 390 would be easier. Price looks decent - not as cheap as the Voge, but then almost nothing is, but they are in the same ball park as Himalayan and CF Moto. Interesting times. The only thing that would put me off is the seat height on the more enduro styled bikes and the lower X only has a 19” front wheel.
The 390 KTM is 170 kg 😲, made from cast iron, the voge is 20kg lighter, half the price and better suspension, if I was starting out now, I'd be buying a voge 😁
@ 😂 Well it is made by Baja in India where they build things tough and heavy. However, where’s the opposition to a 44hp 170Kg dual sport bike at that price point ? Both CF Moto and Himalayan are around 200Kg. The nearest thing would be the Fantic at 160Kg but it’s over a grand more. My kind of riding is much more riding to the easier/longer green lanes - take the coach road for instance, that’s a good 160 miles of tarmac for me and the Voge, though I’m sure is fine, isn’t going to be particularly exciting on the ride there and back. My XT250 will do the ride at a similar pace to the Voge and is numbing to ride unless I get it on very tight, twisty stuff.
Are you using the single mic and using the audio from the action 5 as two channel stereo or just mono.

@SIMONB1 you can't do that on the action 4 to which I'm disappointed. Have to film in mono. First world problems I suppose.

Footage will be smoother on 30fps and the image close in is moving so fast it’s gittery on 25fps as the foreground moves too fast to capture.
Hey up, it's that thing, if it's too smooth there's no sense of speed or moving, it's hard to get the right setting, on the go pro it's been recorded at 24 FPS for years, and no complaints , I'll try the 30 thanks for the tip, ride safe Simon B 😎
@ low frame rate will make the overall footage “cinematic” but make the fast edges glitch. 30fps won’t slow the footage down and take away from the experience and feel it wi simply capture the fast moving foreground better and provide a better experience to watch. The higher the frame rate the more “motion” is captured so you won’t lose anything going higher you get more…. 👍🏻
I’ve been using h DJI for years after GoPro shafted me so I will always push people away from GoPro
