The KTM sale is finally HERE - is now the time to buy a KTM?

- If you've been waiting for a cut-price KTM, then your time has come. In what's presumably a move to shift stock in light of their financial woes, KTM has just announced some pretty decent discounts across their entire range. Join me as I run through the discounted prices (all in UK GBP, apologies to everyone else), and also discuss what I'd pick… if anything. All aboard the Yamaha Tenere 700 Explore/SwampDonkey, which stays upright for this video.

KTM's pricing is now normal for a fully solvant company. As they are not, KTM needs to knock another 15 - 20% off to make up for the risk of buying one should they go belly up.
I dont get it what risk
@@baconder3.Parts, servicing and maybe customer service at a guess....
If they have that many bikes gathering dust and they're desperate for cash they should be selling them at cost, or even 10% off cost. If they go bankrupt, stock is next to worthless.
@@mrcintheuk4641 How do you define “at cost”? They lost money on every bike at their old prices. These new discounted prices are well below “at cost”.
They are below the competition on these prices. And what is the risk?
Currently own my third consecutive KTM, never had even a single thing go wrong in +/- 50,000km. I'm putting my money where my mouth is and will almost certainly get another new one this year. Other brands are simply no fun compared to KTM's.
Define fun? Out of the dozens of motorbikes I've owned, none have been KTM. HD's, Hondas, Yamahas, Suzukis never stranded on the road, track or trails. With a group or solo, any time I throw a leg over a bike and go, I'm having fun!
@@markwarren5644 I want fun on a motorbike, no matter what. Reliability comes maybe on 3. place when I decide to buy one.
My ktm had lick engine oil in 1800km😅
@@Jipeskripes cool nobody cares. My friends $20k plus Panigale left him stranded. What's your point ? Get the shit that makes you happy. He fixed the issue and doesn't bitch about it. Get whatever makes you happy.
@ difficult to explain to someone that has never ridden one. Watch basically any group test that involves a KTM and journos will tell you the same as me. Go try one!
I bought a 2024 Super Duke GT recently, being aware of the conundrum and could not be happier.
I did the same thing
I just ordered one yesterday
Bought mine in 2022, the best all round bike you can buy I reckon,
10, 000 Miles with no problems
1290 SAS with 15,000 miles and no problems, absolute beast of a bike! Love it.
Same mate
TBH these discounts are about the same as those KTM has offered every autumn for the last few years when they have been clearing end of season stock. Considering the increased gamble you are taking with their current financial issues the discounts are too low. This is coming from someone who currently owns 2 x KTMs and a Husky, and has lost his local dealer. I am off to lift the cam covers on my 790 just for a laugh. Thank for the support KTM.
godspeed brother
KTM isn't going anywhere. The CEO "stepped down" and put KTM in this position because of his greed and stupidity. They need to focus back on their roots of making quality race machines instead of overproducing junk to please everyone. That's what the Japanese are for. Never have I had issues with their bikes. I know a guy who races his super Duke and has 20k hard miles. Still looks, feels, and sounds like new.
Very polite and considerate of you to switch off your engine when passing the pedestrian’s. Nice to see!
Thank you Tim!
Lucky there weren't more people or he'd be pushing the bike.
I’m keen to not piss off everyone where I live 😅
@@timrodierides I hope that's a reciprocal social sentiment where you live.
It's defiantly not with the wandering entitled wombles in my neck of the woods.
It was a timely unintentional stall .... ha ha
Are European ears that fragile?? If you were riding a Harley, would you have pushed your 900lbs bike?? 😂😂
One of the main issues with KTM in the UK is the dealers. They are few and far between and just look at the websites, they mostly look like a school project compared to the likes of Triumph, Yamaha, Ducati. None of the sites i've checked have these deals online yet, so i have no idea how much they would cost on finance
I wonder if you got one on finance, and they went bust, would your bike be free 😂
The bank lends you the money, not the dealer or ktm..
The dealer in south London is InMoto in Croydon, and they clearly use the same software as the local Honda dealer (Doble's of Coulsdon). I don't know what the software is called but a lot of bike dealership websites have the same features.
KTM lost me as a brand on the day some fool at head office said " I know. Lets charge to fully enable all features on our bikes."
Professional suicide.
Yep. Totally agree. The principle of that alone completely turned me off the company. That and the many complaints you hear of issues on a lot of the bikes. Namely switchgear faults, hydraulic clutch issues, never being fully confident the bike will make it home 😢
I walked away from a deal for just that reason and that was before the cam shaft issue became common knowledge.
Yeah his ass was practically fired. Garbage greedy CEO ruined KTM's image. They need to focus back on quality race ready machines. Stop overproducing junk and trying to please everyone. Downsize because it's necessary.
@@amococ2487 never had issues with my bikes man. Another buddy who races his super Duke has 20k plus miles and still looks new and no issues. Another buddy has an Aprilia rsv4 over 40k miles. Internet is where the miserable like to hangout and complain. Get the bike you want.
Buyers are talking a big risk here and that's not reflected in the price reductions. Also no mention of unlocking all those pre installed features for free. I doubt people will be queuing down the street waiting for shops to open.
can you expand on the pre installed features?
@ I'm thinking in terms of quickshifter, bluetooth, track modes, and maybe more, which you need to pay extra to 'unlock' on some models after a short, free trial period.
@ ah rite, all very commercially driven!
@@John_Wood_they aren’t pre installed, for some reason people can’t grasp this. The software isn’t included in the base price, they give you a demo mode with some of these features to try before you buy for 1500kms. That mode finishes and you can choose to purchase them or run the bike without them.
It’s just something the smooth brains like to bring up on every KTM video without actually understanding how it works.
Er, get your facts straight. These are software options installed on every bike and programmed to disable after a trial period until you pay to re-enable them and the dealer enters an unlock code. It is not like installing a centre stand or heated grips. If it’s such a great idea why are they the only ones doing it?
Needs to be 35%+ discount before I’d take a look.. I feel for the people who bought there’s at full RRP last summer..
November i bought in November
Don’t want to give up my KTM 890 …. Just love it… btw… just got a great deal on the NEXX wed.3 carbon… seems good so far, confortable and quality feels good … cheers
I’ve just bought a 24 SAS here in Canada. I do have a dealer very local to me so I’m not worried. I’m confident they will recover and hopefully make smarter business decisions moving forward.
Re your gear: Sidi Adventure boots, Arai XD-5 helmet. And Klim is pronounced “climb”.
Reading the comments here, it saddens me, but makes me realise KTM are doomed. 'The internet' is an unforgiving place where once an opinion, no matter how incorrect it is, gathers pace, it becomes lore. KTM have made many errors with pricing discounts devaluing their bikes, some shoddy dealers ruining the ownership experience for customers. The cam issues were the final straw for many and now the knives are out for KTM from the online biking community. I hope they can survive and rebuild because they are the most exiting brand out there in my opinion.
In early 80s I bought a dud vf750 shaft drive Honda with atrocious handling and fuel economy , lost money , I research every bike now before purchase as it becomes your problem !!
You have to be nuts to purchase a KTM today. Discounts are nothing if service and spares disappear tomorrow. Maybe, if and when financing and good management has been organised, but not before!
Pricing seems to be in Europe only. No changes in US prices.
After buying an ex demo 2021 SDR it’s safe to say I’ll never be buying a KTM ever again. Shocking customer service in regard to warranty claims. Radiators made of cheese, switchgear that can’t get wet. The list goes on. Utter crap and even better now the second hand value is shot to bits, fantastic!
Marcus I am genuinely sorry about you wasting your hard earned money on a POS. I am hoping they go out of business so no one else has to go through what you have.
Another KTM ? Nope ! Not now, not ever again. Traded in my problem plagued 890 ADV for one of the first available 1290 SDR EVO models…..didn’t even make it off the dealers lot before it “threw a code”, after multiple more random codes and the bike going into “limp home mode” each time I cut my losses and dumped it. Almost a year later it was still on the used lot so I asked one of the salesman about it and he told me….”Every time someone takes it for a test ride it throws a code!”
@Dan-56 It's comments like this that have made my decision to get the F900gs. This isn't hear say, unwarranted opinion and brand slander, its real life experience. Thanks for your help bro!
I understand. I test rode a BMW and a KTM and on the test rides they both threw codes. Lucky for me actually as i brought a Kawasaki instead. I have owned over 40 bikes and Kawasaki is the best. The bike with the most character was a 1987 Husqvarna AE430. Thats the automatic 430cc 2 stoke automatic. 😀
My 2023 SDR Evo has been faultless. Sometime you get a bad one, doesn’t mean they’re all bad.
Throws a code means nothing. The sensors are doing their work. If a bike stays long unused and then started at xold weather, it will throw a code, which will go off on it's own. This does not mean the engine or bike is not reliable. The 790/890s indeed had cam issues. Not many of them though. The 690 platform has been very reliable, apart from minor issues. All bikes have problems. KTMs are wonderful, exciting machines. I can live wirh any problems. Had more problems with Yamahas. Maybe i am just unlucky.
"is now the time to buy a KTM?" f no lol, a ticking time bomb with a discount is still a ticking time bomb.
@@roelfkromhout time bomb? They not just blow up and you will get parts also when the company doesnt exist anymore like husaberg
People who moan about ktm liability have never had a ktm, or dont know how to maintain a bike or abit of both..ive had a 125 21 plate for 2 years which I used as a farm bike it lived outside and was used daily, in and out of the farm which is a half mile track that often floods and becomes a flowing river of about 1-3ft deep the whole way which the water flowing against you, never had any issues I've had it offroad in all conditions trails, mud, fields roads, ice snow, 45mph winds you name it the duke done it lol and never struggled always starts first time, and all that time i never had an issue except for the left indicator getting rain in it and it flashing on and off. I still got her now she lives outside for a mess about around the yard and guess what, still bloody starts after mever riding it and abandoning it lol i dont know why she starts and still lives but she refuses to die. Ive also got a ktm 790 2019, and a ktm duke 890 R 24 plate. Ive had the 790 through all the abuse i gave the 125 and still no problems with that one either. ive had the 790 for 2 years now because the 890 r is my going out for a nice ride bike.amd doesn't get the abuse. Still I've never experienced any issues with a ktm but then again i do keep on top of maintenance so maybe thays why. Ktm 125 18,456 miles
Ktm 2019 15,456 miles
I almost died a week ago because my MY22 390 Duke handle bars slipped in their clamps mid corner. Almost flew into oncoming traffic at highway speeds because KTM can't torque four bolts correctly. Just because there's plenty of people not having problems doesn't mean KTM should be free of all critique.
@arekingi that's a human fault not ktm, maybe you should of used a better technician. Or if that really happened, why wasn't the technician who done the works arrested for attempted manslaughter?
Learned that lesson 49 years ago. You must always check your bolts. @@arekingi
That's fair enough, but you can't just discount the hundreds of stories of issues by blaming it on people not maintaining their bikes. I know someone who had the switchgear changed 3 times on their SDR, issues with the hydraulic clutch and the tft screen. Got F all to fo with them maintaining it.
@amococ2487 you hear stories all the time, I heard game of thrones was good, I thought it was rubbish. I hear ktm has issues I have no issues. Honestly I think people should just do what they think a little more and a little less of what others think.. I'm just saying from my experience of always having ktm, aswell as having ktm crossers as a kid on the farm starting with a 65 the a 125 then 250 which I had for about 5 years actively ripping, minor issues with that but only things to be expected of a crosser being rode for 5 years for atleast half hour a day. I stick with what I know and I've put ktms through sht I wouldn't trust other bikes to handle. Ktm duke is a cowboys bike lol she's a trusty stead that gets you from A to B even with a totally flat tyre for 12miles averaging 50-65mph it was wobbly as he'll and slidy but the duke ate it up like nothing
Spoke to a local ex KTM dealer yesterday and he's saying all KTM owners who want to jump out of the market by trading in or selling are getting insanly low offers. One very well know manufacturer HQ is offering around 700 quid for the 890r 23ish models haha savaaaggeeee!
Is this really true??
@seanobrien5520 Yes sir unfortunately. I'd called up to see if they can service an 890 as I'm looking at buying a used one. Owner told me KTM has taken him off the dealer list as he won't sell the 450 as part of his stock. He's now disgruntled and told me about some owners whose tried to part ex them and had a bad time.
@@LoxleysEscapePlan 😲
If dealerships were more plentiful, if the bikes had a better warranty/reliability, and if they better looking and less expensive would I buy a KTM,? No but I hope they make all the leadership changes they need to get back on track. A lot of current the KTM owners, dealerships and KTM employees deserve a second chance. Overall the motorcycle community is better off with KTM in it than out of it.
To be honest those aren’t discounts. Like many have said they are what they should be to start with. If they want to sell 250000 bikes or take a huge chunk out of that number they are going to have to discount a lot more than that. I would say at least 25% off but if they do that they will never be able to charge current prices again. 👍
Not sure what those figures are. I thought a brand new 890R in November for £10,500. Sod reliability should buy a bike on how it makes you feel
Absolutely - when it doesn’t start, you can’t get it serviced or parts you are going to feel frustrated
Got to feel for a bloke I know that bought an 890 a week before they went into administration. Adding insult to injury, the day he picked it up, 3 little loves tried to steal it, breaking the steering lock in the process. Had it for one day and doesn’t know when parts will be available. Timing is everything.
Mate that's amazing! You got through an entire video without telling us you're 6 foot 3! 😂
There's a first time for everything!
I've got a 23 reg 1290SDR I picked up when they knocked £3k off and extended the warranty to 4yrs due to the imminent 1390. I've been waiting to offload it since the end of last summer after picking up a CBR600RR. The Honda dealer didn't want it and would have shipped it off to the highest bidder. The market was poor then due to the amount for sale and that was pre the financial issues being disclosed. I'd guess it's worth less now even if someone did want it.
Curious - that is quite the swap, what didn't you enjoy about the 1290?
@AYYOFLOCKA I like the Duke, one of the most enjoyable bikes I've owned. I've had 2 and fancied a change. I grew up on Blades and there was a cancelled order for the 600RR so I was a limited window to make the decision.
@@dainesefreak That's the rub isn't it, I'd have a bike for every day of the week if I had the money 😂
Yeah I'm fortunate that I could afford to hang onto the Duke along with the Honda. Now that I've got both I do use them for very didn't rides. I did expect to be able to shift the Duke this summer though.
Warranty isn’t worth the paper its written on if the company fails
AMS in Tewkesbury have some old 390 Adventures going back to 2021 they're desperate to get rid of and have reduced them by about £2,000 (2021 model is £3,990; 2023 is £4,390). The 2025 model costs over 6 grand though. InMoto have a small reduction but it's still above £6K.
I have said this twice now on your videos, get the ktm 890 adventure in stead of the Yam and now it cheaper. It will be better on the road and probably better off !
Scorpion do a decent ADV lid as well (ADF9000) and their lids have adjustable cheek pads too and very well priced
Good video as ever Tim
For off-road I'd suggest hard boots and abandon the flimsy soft knee armour for hard articulated knee guards like Adam Riemann uses.
A modular helmet is nice to be able to flip the front up while taking a break. You don't have to take your helmet off 20 times a day when riding off road. I like the alpine star toucan boots, they are goretex.
KTM are also refusing to issue CoC. I bought a 690 Enduro R ABS -EU in the middle east. The dealer confirmed it is exactly the same spec as the EU bikes and was aproved with the same ECWVTA . KTM-UK now trying to stipulate they are built to different standards though will not specify which certification scheme they used for UAE road registration and fail to issue a CoC to any standard. Now looking at a SVA aprovals with a claim for any additional expenses, assuming KTM are still solvent when complete. They've lost (yet) another customer for life.
I d take a chance on a 790 adventure at £5600 which would then rival the MT450 which I consider as similar Chinese bikes but more risk with the 790 camshafts.
It’s the annual KTM BOGOF sale, nothing new there then 😊
Klim Marrakech, full stretch mesh jacket.
Upgrade to level 2 D30 Armour.
The most comfortable jacket out there. And goes great with a layering system.
I love mine.
I’d been looking at that, thanks for the recommendation mark!
I 2nd this! Most comfortable jacket I've ever worn. Tho I'm biased to how breathable it is as I'm in south Florida USA where it's summer pretty much all year around 🥵
Sportpursuit has deals on klim gear every so often. Keep an eye out!
Agreed - so comfortable compared to all the other bike jackets I've had.
I've got one too, very comfortable
I had an email from Blade Motorcycles and they were offering £6-7k off the Superduke r and the other expensive models and deals on all pre registered 74 plate bikes!! Super Adventure S is £13995 (with £2500 of extras fitted), SuperDuke r is £12995 (with £1500 of extras fitted)......
SuperDuke R at that price is insane value!
because blade ktm have gone bust in swindon so are offloading stock. they sold a brand new 790 for sub 5k
Which Superduke 1290 or 1390? I was looking at getting one anyway as I prefer it over the Tuono. I have cash and am waiting!!
@@thetrash6514 Pretty sure it was the 1290
I got the same email. It's the 1290r at £12995. 790 duke is £5495!
I was prepared to go for a Super Duke R 1390. Unfortunately the dealer not only discounted £3k off the KTM but also wanted to discount £3k off the value of my PX! So, no deal.
I really want KTM (and their dealers) to get through this but they need to realise that punters need real bargains before taking the risks involved.
I am looking to buy a new bike for 2025 and I am still waiting for the February 25th for some new information regarding their financial crisis. After that, I will be closer to my decision. I have tested the 990 duke and 1390 super duke r evo and they both spark a joy in me, but with what is going on right now with the company and the unreliability I am a bit scared to pay this much money.
Will the spark of joy light the fuse of the TNT in your wallet
It is kind of a dangerous spark - my bank accound might explode and my drivers license as well with the 1390 😆 but hey #yolo
US dealers are selling 2024 890 Adventure R bikes anywhere between $15,999 and as low as $11,999.
I'd honestly love a 790 adventure to round out my garage, but would need the price to go quite a bit lower to reflect the known issues I'd be taking on. I'm pretty sure they'll go lower, given the extent of the inventory we know about.
place local to me in NI has hundreds of new lined up - massive stock and no takers.
Im starting to find the 1390 SD evo very tempting. Of course I will lose a lot selling my existing KTM..
Do you have to get a new middle weight? Why not an second hand 1290 SA?
Ok, Ktm 990 duke 11k or Honda hornet sp….. 10k no brainer!
One off topic question: how are you satisfied with that larger Tenere Explore windshield in terms of wind noise? How tall are you?
Tyres... a vote for the Bridgestone AX41's. Got them on my T7 and they are great off and on-road a true 50/50. Did the Adventurebikefestival trails comfortably. Lasting well too.
Metzeler karoo, they use them in the Honda adv school.
These kind of prices have been around for a while. They're in a tricky category price-wise, because they aren't cheap cheap (although great value imo), and not many believe them to be a bike you're going to own for 10 years, which only increases their cost to own in real terms. On my second KTM, and I'd be hard pushed to get a third at the moment, but not because I've had any real issues or that they aren't a great bike to ride. That said what will likely happen is I'll jump ship, find the grass isn't greener, and come back. This will probably push down prices for bikes overall, and that's a good consumer thing at least.
10% to 20% you must be joking, that’s a normal winter discount for KTM and you are probably buying a 2023 bike! Wouldn’t touch one with a barge pole, not because of the reliability issues but because there may not be a dealer network for much longer.
4 years warranty on KTM here in Sweden, looking at a -24 1290 SAS. What can possibly go wrong?
890 adv r is the bike. Espically now with price breaks. I currently own a 1290 adv s and a 701 enduro. Looking at adding an 890 r to the stable shortly. Ktm is not going anywhere. Let's be real here.
Gonna buy another duke I think, nervous about it though. Just don’t want to contemplate a life without a splash of orange. Even got Ktm boxer shorts 😔
Does this make me sad or just foolish??
If it's any consolation I have some KTM socks...
I was just at the Helsinki motorcycle show last weekend and here in Finland the 790 super Duke is over €13000 and the Husqvarna 801 is €15600 so their prices are ridiculous but on the original price there is a 25% Finnish government tax on top, which I don't understand really I don't think the Finnish government wants people riding motorcycles to be honest a Yamaha MT-09 is close to €18000 which is rediculous money as you can only ride a motorcycle in Finland for 5 months because of snow, so motorcycles have become toys for the wealthy. I will say something about the Helsinki motorcycle show 2025 that was different from 2024 there were a lot of brands missing this year Royal Enfield didn't turn up Benelli didn't turn up, Triumph and Kawasaki didn't bother Bike world a company that sells those brands was there but Triumph and Kawasaki themselves didn't even bother, in 2024 there was one used motorcycle outlet there, this year 50% of the stands were used motorcycles for sale, and even companies like Indian had used motorcycles on display for sale, the only brands were Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and CF moto. The rest were just dealerships and used motorcycle dealerships. Compared to 2024 the show was lackluster, one half of the exhibition center last year was stalls selling motorcycle gear, helmets, boots, clothing but this year that half of the exhibition were stalls selling everything, beds, furniture, double glazing and kit homes. Really disappointing, and when you asked these guys anything about the motorcycles they were clueless, there was nothing there I couldn't have seen better online or on TH-cam.
It’s called socialism. We can’t have nice things. Candy and bikes 🙈😂
In Finland the vat. Is 25,5 %
Higher than most places.
And then there's a vehicle tax on top of that which depends on engine size.
So 50% of the retail price is just tax.
The motorcycle fair was a representation of the current state of the economy.
Everything is too expensive.
No one has money, so neither do the dealerships.
Half of the Motorcycle Fair was just bicycles and electric bikes.
The Duke 990 was priced way too high and it didn't sell so the price drop was inevitable.
Even if PMG wasn't out of money.
The big disappointment for me was "the Ducati stand"
One carpet and 2 bikes.
WTF ?
No V2 Fighter or Panigale.
No V4 Fighter or Panigale S.
The Danes have up to 150 % taxes on cars. That's insane.
KTM/Husqvarna/Gasgas have been hugely discounted since November 2024 or earlier anyway. 690/701 for as low as 9800€ new, the 700s, 8300€ new. Superdukes more than 6 to 8K down.
I would only buy a KTM really cheaply to sell it for profit. Personally I would not risking getting stuck somehwere with a KTM...
Not just KTM...Honda CL500,pre-reg,£3995?
Tim, could you answer my question on your previous video regarding the T7 vs the Transalp? Your input would be very welcome.
I am not Tim. But have’n ridden both, these two bikes are different. Very different.
I would not compare them.
Personally, I would go for new Transalp since I don’t need the capability of the T7. I am an adventure rider and all I need is a comfortable machine that can carry myself and my staff over very long distance on gravel roads. Sometime light dirt and light off-road.
Currently I ride Africa. I prefer Africa over transalp for its features.
If they add better suspension and brakes to Transalp. Plus crus control. I might consider it.
Still, Africa engine is more superior. Works on basic unleaded fuel. Long oil intervals.
A much better machine overall in my opinion.
As someone who has also just started green laning, would you mind saying where those woods are?
It's called Wolvens Lane, it starts just south of Wotton (and the excellent Wotton Hatch pub).
Stefan Pierer has absolutely NOT gone the way of the Dodo. He basically switched titles with Gottfried Neumeister, meaning the exact same two people who ran the company into the ground are still in charge.
Just before their announcement last year, I got myself 22 duke 890r 😢 tho haven’t any issues yet, I do worry
On boots, if you can live with motocross boots you really should go that way. They make everything harder but they’re also your best defence over your ankle doing a 180
It is a real trade off though. If you’re touring and walking you’ll want to pack shoes
I'm up for motorcross boots to be honest - the last thing I need in my line of work is not being able to walk/drive. I'll pack some shoes for walking/exploring.
@@timrodierides A modular helmet is nice to be able to flip the front up while taking a break. You don't have to take your helmet off 20 times a day when riding off road. Liatt have just released a new Adventure helmet which looks worth a look. Not seen in person yet.
Interesting that it costs 3 grand to have the 690 at the same weight, and 300 cc's of additional displacement.
How much lead is on the 350?
I’ve money burning a hole in my pocket for a new bike and was waiting for this sale. I was going to buy a SAS. Definitely not at that price. I took a 2024 SAS for a test ride yesterday and the bike had electrical fault which almost bucked me off the bike.
If KTM wants the public to bail them out at least give us an incentive and customer service guarantees.
Im glad you are alive to tell the story.
Guys I have put a hold on a 24 Duke 390 for £3700 new. Sounds like a good deal and i have two dealers here in London within 40min. I dont need a bigger engine , just weekend short sessions. Do you rhink it is a bad idea ? I love the look and features considering another small mini moto from Honda is 4k. Sounds like a great value for money no?
I just checked, the dealers near me dropped their 1390s by almost $4k recently. If I hadn't just gotten a new MT09 SP, I would consider it 🤷
Just bought a pre reg 2024 Ktm 390 adventure with spoke wheels still box for only £4,000 delivered
I had an 2014 1190 Adventure for 10 yrs and never had a single bother with it. In fact it was a great fun bike. Did all my own servicing, so never needed a stealer. Would I now buy a new 1290 SAS, well, probably not given the potential for KTM to vanish from our lives, but I wont decide until after 25th Feb when decisions will be made by KTM administrators. By the way, these current discounts don't appear to be anything different from their usual reductions at this time of year to sell the already built units before the next model year comes out, its just its applicable to all models this year. Im certain further more enticing reductions will follow in March..... watch this space... then I might be tempted
Where do you get it serviced or buy spares if you need them..
You whistle in the wind…..
I'd already have bought one, but like you, I no longer have a dealership near me.
Although I don't have a bmw dealer with an hours drive anymore either 😂
So the future of my GS is looking pretty fragile too.
For boots I'd highly recommend Alpinestars Corozal Adventure boots. Mine are perfect for trail/adventure riding and are incredibly waterproof. They come in black or an oiled brown colour😉👍👍
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll add them to the list
Great to see Wolverns lane being used :) we had many fun times up and down there on our supermotos.
Yeah! It's my go-to easy lane, but it was so slippery yesterday. If I had full knobblies it wouldn't been fine, but the 70/30 road tyres weren't loving it
I still want a ktm 1290 sas. The dealer in Ireland is not discounting prices. They are still looking for 19k for a 2 year old one😮
Sounds like a good bike for a provisional driving license holder.
Helmet - the new Leatt ADV 8.5 helmet looks like a good option but only just released so availability might be an issue. Another option is the Airoh Commander. Arai Tour-X is the gold standard but expensive (worth it though).
Boots - Sidi Adventure. By far the best adventure boot on the market.
Thank you! I've been perving over the Leatt ADV - I was on a launch with the chap from ABR magazine and he had one. Need to find a way to try it in the UK
The KTM sale we have all been waiting for 😂😂😂. Please rush out and buy a bike with prices now still 10% higher than Japan's finest. With engine cams made of cheese, soon to be absolutely no guarantee or warranty and parts no availablity beyond 2026.😂😂😂 Be my guest. I will be sticking to my Suzuki 🤫😉
I don’t ride but what if they sold off Gas Gas and Husqvarna also that spreadsheet said 2024 model year does that mean anything them trying to get rid of old stock. The channel is great because you say it as it is 👍
I think GasGas and Husqvarna are too ingrained in their production now. BTW Husvarna deals are being announced on Friday, GasGas soon after I reckon
Husqvarna Euro has their deals out now as well. Nothing for the states.
The only KTM I want hasn't come out yet, the 390 Adv R. So I doubt I'll be getting any money off that.
The 990 should have been 11 or 12 grand from the beginning, it didn't make sense to me that it was 2k more expensive than a Striple RS.
Oh I’ve not been on Wolvens for ages. They’ve really thinned out the woods up there 👀
I personally think people will buy a KTM when they’re about 1/2 price, as they expect to have no comeback, or warranty.
Well done on the gym and cake eating 💪🏼
Helmet - I'd look at the Airoh Commander 2, much lighter than the Nexx & fits me way better & better finished.
Thank you for the recommendation - I’ll check it out. It has a strong name
no worries Ghostbikes have a few with good discount otherwise SBS have good stock to try & return free if they don’t fit your ‘Swede’. Let’s face it ‘fit’ is so subjective & personal😉
Not going to work. I offloaded my excf before all this but Im stuck with my 690 duke - no bad thing actually. I wouldnt touch a new one at those prices. Dreamland
I want a TC 125 or 150 and a Super Mini.
Im very tempted. I was looking at spending about 7 grand on a 2018 ish tiger 800 xcx/xca but if i can go get a brand new 890 adventure for 8500 (which ive seen online) then that seems like a decent deal. Going to see how it goes and try and decide if an 890 adventure would even suit me as a 99.9% road rider.
Get the 890 SMT then
As far as I'm aware you can't get the Superduke R Evo in Australia anymore so the discount means nothing. There are no new ones left new and no 2025 models are available.
Does make you wonder what's happening with KTM as the new 2025 1390 Adventure & super duke GT have disappeared from the UK KTM website 🤔
I've always wanted a Super Duke R Evo but I would wait for the 2026. May sound trifling but I like the 8.8 inch touchscreen TFT and updated switchgear on the 2025 1390 GT and 990 R. Presuming that they're waiting on updating the 1390 Evo as they sort out the embarrassment of riches which is their unsold inventory. Another year to gauge their financial volatility would also be a plus.
Definitely not. What's a thousand euros discount for a toy you're gonna keep for years to come? A months wages? Half a months wages? To buy a junky, clattery unreliable device that you know has design flaws, electrical gremlins, mechanical vulnerabilities, and they discount it to get it off their hands and onto you to suffer all the potential issues. Why dont they learn that reliability is the most important thing, if the thing breaks down it's a piece of junk, no matter how good it is when it works.
50% firesale would be needed to shift that stock
Stefan Pierer is/was only half of PIERER Mobility AG, why does nobody mention the other half being Bajaj Auto? You know, the mob that make the 200, 250 and 390 Dukes. Are they invisible?
Wolvens lane to Coldharbour?
Tenere and Yam sort of sit at the other end to KTM, still exciting x-plane motors but strong reliability and more cautious corporate strategy
The best ADV helmet which I am personally buying this spring, Leatt 8.5 adv. way better than Nex ex or even Klim
IMO they need to drop the prices to this level for the next few years until confidence returns to the average KTM/Husky buyer
I have a 2023 Fe350 all decked out. Wanted to trade it for a Ducati 698 but values are through the floor because of the recent sales and unknowns. That kept me from buying a Ktm 690smc or 701sm.
I don’t believe there is much risk in KTM just disappearing, someone will buy or absorb them and the company will continue in some fashion. Gas gas and Husqvarna might get split out
I have an SDR and I love it. I got a quote on a 2025 exc 500 for €11,000 and I think that's a great deal. Might buy one.
"I think that's a great deal. Might buy one."....😂😂...tell when you do...'not'
Risk seems to big. Parts position and warranties.
Alpine stars Tech 7 Boots & Shoei Hornet 2 lid... great for road & ok for offroad.ish.
KTM are gone from most multi brand dealers, the two big mega stores here have been clearing out all stock the gear and the signs have been removed from the shop. The same with Harley and Husky and GasGas. There is only 1 Indian & 1 Harley store left. Royal Enfield has been the brand that has saved many dealerships here.
What part of the planet? I’m in Canada and have 6 KTM dealers within 40 miles.
There's no chance I'd get one unless the discount was much deeper the risk is too high.
I'm a big motorcycle fan. KTM is a really nice bike and it's disappointing to see a motorcycle company struggling. It's kind off what Beull is going through. I'm not saying it's the same, it's similar. Great bikes they're just struggling a little.
About helmets. I Am really happy with my Nexx X.Wed3 Zero Pro
Big gamble atm. Could be a bargain (or not) and spares could dry up. I do fancy a 990 though 😂
I think you might be right about a general realignment of KTM pricing in the downward direction, and it seems to be the same in other parts of the world other than Blighty.
Certainly down here in the colonies where we are seeing between 8% and 15% Discount from the previous KTM RRP's.
I'm uncertain about the appetite from the consumer to Gamble on a KTM as a long term prospect though, with uncertainty over their future, having said that, if it turns out not to be all doom and gloom for KTM, now, or in the very near future when they look for further cash flow might just be the perfect time for some well priced orange in people's lives.
