Hilarious! He got so still with that bucket on his head, you'd think he was sedated. I've never seen that one before.
We are new to sheep. We have 4 Dorper sheep 1 being a ram. They were mistreated by the previous farmer and were scared of humans. With kindness and food we’re now able to touch and hand feed them. The ram is like a big dog he follows us everywhere and loves pats and scratches. On occasions when we stop scratching him and he wants more he will charge us usually without making contact then nuzzle into us. The charging is concerning as when he does hit he hits hard. We tried the bucket on the head and he immediately stopped, calmed down and walked away. Now we only need to show him the bucket and he stops. We carry the bucket every time we go in the yard and if working in there we put bucket next to us and he remains calm. Many thanks for this tip it has has helped us to deal with his charging. We still keep a close eye on him when with him. Even though they are pets they are still an unpredictable wild animals. 🇦🇺

I have a 'never turn your back' story but about a bull. It was about 1 am and I was really drunk. I was work trading on a dairy farm, living in a separate room in the barn. I decided to go visit the horses before bed to give them some treats. Well I climbed the stall and started feeding them alphalpha cubes, and I was throwing the goats some too. Well I'm minding my business chillen with the horses and all of a sudden I was thrown 5 feet or so against the wall. I managed to turn around and was staring at the bull, Maximus. He was never ..not ever in those stalls, but someone forgot to shut the gate and he wandered in. So I am already hurt and adrenaline pumping, not so drunk anymore. Well he charges me again and this time pins me in the corner of the stall. (Thankfully he was de horned or id be dead). Well I start screaming for help, and my dog is busting through the screen from inside my room to come help me. Luckily someone was sleeping over that night and heard me yelling and my dog frantic. They came and looked at me kinda like "what should I do"? I told him to get the whip and beat Maximus as hard as he could. (Mind you this is all like 5 - 10 seconds but it feels like a lifetime.). So he starts hitting this bull and I swear he doesn't even feel it, but he let up for a second and I managed to get over the fence. I got really really lucky that night. I quit drinking 2 months later. (Thanks Maximus). Broke a few ribs and my leg was extremely bruised up. I think if he wanted to kill me he could have. I still love that guy. It was my mistake for not checking my surroundings before going in. Crazy night though. Animals are powerful. My dog was ready to fight him and if he could have made it over the fence I'm sure he would have tried haha.

OMG..........I got TEARS flowing!!!! LOL! That reminds me of when I was a kid growing up. My grandparents farm was 20 or so miles away...and THEY had sheep/goats too. (that was where I learned to spin wool, process/sheer, etc. from) Anyway...she was out in her garden bent over picking tomatoes.....and that dang ram head-butted her from behind when she was all bent over...right smack in the bloomers...and sent her literally flying into the kale 3 rows over !!! I was at the sink doing dishes, watching all that....and I spit on the window choking laughing so hard!!!!!!! Even she got up, laughing...came up to the house and said " you know what that ram did? I can't find my dentures out there...........come help look!" OMG. If we'd only known about that bucket trick! It is JUST TOO FUNNY!!!!!!! Ya gotta love sheep................and goats (her main beef with the buck was him wetting all over her leg/feet! Then curling up his upper lip, laughing about it at her! That too was another funny story!) They are a real hoot too at times..................LOLOLOLOL!!!!

My uncle Spenser was 6' 11" to 7' + tall. My mom told me that I was 2 y o playing in the yard when Spencer's ram took a shine on the seat of my pants and was about to butt me into my next life . When Uncle Spenser stepped between the two of us and hit the ram in the head. The ram never tried that again.

You are so correct on not turning your back on a ram but that also goes for a billy goat or bull. You need to back out slowly when confronting most of these animals.

I started using a bucket with my pushy (horned) whether a few years ago and tend to keep old buckets near gates so I can bring them in with me. Can't get the bucket over his head but it amazingly helps me to be able to leave when he is a jerk. it is either bucket approach or wether sausage I tell him.
Putting that on my bucket list.

Never thought about using a bucket. We always used a small blanket that we took with us in there pens.

I'm cracking up!!! That is a good trick. I never spent a lot of time on farms when I was little. I had no idea how aggressive rams could be and was scared too death when one charged me. Luckily I made it over the fence in time. There's a lot to learn with proper ways to handle animals.

We had a ram, Unfortunately my husband ended up with a broken finger and we ended up selling him as we were not really set up for him to keep him happy. Their heads are incredibly hard!!! Its a learning experience with these kind of animals, but your videos should be compulsory watching for all would-be sheep keepers. More, more please!!!
Rambo: There’s that nice man I let stay on the farm... I snuggle you, I ram you, I snuggle you, I ram you, I snuggle you, I charge you... Did he just put a fricken bucket on my head? Oh, he’s so getting rammed... (You’re so right about being careful around the rams. My high school was way out of town by the air base cuz it used to serve only military kids til overcrowding changed that. There was a small farm next to the school’s field & the guy kept these HUGE sheep, the ram even had short horns! They’d get out of his property constantly in the early morning & roam our campus. So I’d innocently show up for pre-period & that ram would stalk me, corner me & then BAM, horns in the tuchus! Almost every darn day! I complained to the principal but he just laughed. It’s not so funny when it’s your backside!)

Good trick. Things look frigid there. In the 50s here in Maryland. I’m trying to deliver wood and I’m stuck in the field cause all the rain we have been getting. Unbelievable wish the ground was frozen.

You're right. They're dangerous! I received a pretty nasty knee injury from one of our rams. Now I carry a stout stick with me if I have to go into the pen with him.

Get yourself a squirt bottle.. something that will squirt a good stream... fill it with 1/3 white vinegar and the rest water.. proceed to the pasture and watch him melt like he was a small lamb... On windy days, get a super soaker.

We had a goat that was like that. Had as I fixed the ramming with 1 well placed 9mm round. Was good eating too.
