    My first experience with the cycle of life/death was my hamster. Came home from school one day and he was gone. Wrapped up in a paper towel, inside a little box. Had a burial. I took it well for a 6 year old. Planted him in the garden and grew the best radishes that year.

    Everything you said is so true.I make more money off my goat kids, than my lambs.I try and keep all my little girls and sell the little boys.I don't allow any children around the big billy goats.I use the goat milk for any bum lambs too...saves cost in lamb milk replacer and healthier for the lambs too.Goats are so fun to be around!

      It is because of cows the cuts of meat are bigger. And the stigma of goats being low class meat is the biggest problem...

      I just convinced my mom to buy goats for meat niether of us have tried it but with the economy how it is shes finally willing to try and ive always been willing hahah. Can you give me like a comparison to some other critter what it might taste like? Close to venison?

    • @CoinCentrado
      @CoinCentrado 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@QueenSucho there is a slight taste difference from anything I've had, but I'd say the biggest difference would be in the texture. My advice would be to pressure cook for a long time, especially if feeding to children or older people.

    Wonderful video. You make a great point about the future and potential of marketing goat meat. The problem is that most people doesn't know how cook it and take away its deer like flavor. But offering it in small farmers markets and giving recipes could be a good start. Milk is another potential of profitability. I love your video, it really inspire me to start my own little farm. 15 years ago, with many sacrifices I bought my house in a brand new neighborhood, now is turned to be a place for drugs and cars being robbed. It is sad but now I prefer to live in a place surrounded by animals than unscrupulous people. May God bless your beautiful children It is delightful to see how they enjoy their very happy life.

    I just inadvertently went 3 extra days before doing my “Limbs” workout (squats, hams, arms)… on every lift I did more weight for more reps than last time. I felt so strong, and even though getting huge PRs I actually felt like I still had more in me on some of the lifts(like hack squats @ 20 pounds heavier and 3 reps MORE than last week). It was in this moment that any doubt I had in the validity of what Mike Mentzer preached just vanished. I was already shooting for 2-3 days between sessions but the huge difference between that and 5-6 days as per this last session was almost miraculous

    Cows are my favorite animal for a small or large homestead. They can produce much more than goats, and the cream line on a jersey's milk is awesome. They can pay for themselves and give you a lot more products. Even making money from a well bred calf can bring in thousands of dollars. Also, am I the only one who started singing the Circle of Life at number two? Lol.

    Being Hispanic, I can certainly vouch that goats are delicious, if prepared properly. Some have a "gamy" taste and odor, thus preparation,-- marinating in lime/lemon juice, salt and hot sauce overnight,-- is a must prior to cooking. Curried goat over rice is heavenly. Try it, you'll love it.!!

    Daniel you may want to watch the Garden Answer channel, video titled September garden tour dated 9-30-17. You'll see why I think it would be a great idea for them to have goats. Towards the end of the video she talks about making an area a pasture and getting animals. It would be perfect for goats and she just had a little boy. Now think about how much Huston loves those goats. Perfect fit!!!!!!!! I'm hoping to see some rehomed goats there one day. 😉

    Daniel you and your family are such an inspiration! My wife I with our 3 children live in the Ozarks in Ark. We have been thinking about selling the pines on our 40acres and fencing for goats. Do you have an opinion on the most profitable breed? How bout Boers?

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Boers can be profitable but they will be more difficult to care for. If you want the most profit I would go with a registered line of goats. You will be able to sell the kids for much more if you have a good blood line going.

    Do you think the horn would be a concern whatsoever? I have watched other channels who are raising goats, some of them have the horns removed when the kids are young, but others don't.
    Thank you

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dehorning is just a matter of preference. Most dairy goat farms dehorn so that the goats are easier to get in a milk stand. It doesn't make as much difference to me with a meat goat herd.

    We got two this past fall for many of the reasons you just laid out. They are in our chicken paddocks currently which have 8’ fences. I would like to get a few more in the spring and rotate them through our 2 acre pasture but have to figure out fencing!!!

    • @ArmsFamilyHomestead
      @ArmsFamilyHomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well as the old saying goes if it won't hold water it won't hold a goat. The best fencing you can use for goats is a woven wire fence.

    • @ronbootsfarm8266
      @ronbootsfarm8266 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arms Family Homestead I agree! But it gets expensive fast, especially if you are trialing goats. I figure that’s why a lot of people pass on goats, they scrimp on fence when they first get them, they get out, and folks say heck with this!
