I really appreciate your efforts to show especially men how to do what they call "a simple house chore". Do it and tell me if it's simple. Not just the shirts for you, but for everyone else in the house, so imagine how much work it takes to give everybody a nice shirt to go to work every day. Your wife and children must be proud, grateful and love you so much!!!
THANK YOU! I am recently divorced and at the ripe old age of 42, I find myself having to iron my own shirts for the first time in my life. I had no idea what I was doing but after watching this I am now ironing mine and my 2 sons shirts like a pro!
I tried twice and failed (miserably) twice trying to iron a long sleeve shirt... I have more confidence to succeed now that I've seen your video. Simple but thorough. Thank you!
Thank you! I'm a quilter so my iron is always out but I needed a refresher course on men's shirts. Our youngest has a big job in-person interview tomorrow.
I learnt something today. Thank you! I never ironed my shirts myself, always paid someone to do it for me. But since it’s that easy I’m gonna do it myself now. The “Yeah” at the end was just so funny. It felt like you were saying, “Start ironing your shirt, it’s easy, you lazy ***”
You are terrific and express my gratitude that you help us regards from a Greek solo man who's mum used to helping with that stuff but not any more! You are cool man thanks a lot!
I had like 20 shirts of my hubby who wanted it to be given to a dry cleaner bt after watchin this video im like I can do it!! It looks really easy,,, thx for all the tips for collar and seam specially,, I guess thats where most people go wrong,,, wish me luck,,
Thank you sir. My father asked me to do his and I had no idea how. So I looked for a video tutorial that was easy, and thus found your Video . Thank you
True. Only iron the underside -- the side that nobody actually sees. Wrinkles will get ironed out and your collar will not get shiny. If you want a stiff collar, you can spray a little bit of starch on the underside, THEN iron.
Thank you for this video, just a moment ago I tried ironing a long sleeved shirt for the first time and it went badly (lucky I didn't burn any of them).
Thank you very much this worked very well for a likes of me as a bachelor. First shirt taken me 30 mins, then second 10mins last taken me only a couple of minutes...now I am going to progress my learning to trousers next.
I've ironed my own shirts for almost 50 yrs now, and I've always done it in the reverse order - one side of front, back, other side of front, sleeves, yoke, then collar. I often get compliments on how good my shirts look, so I'm not changing the system.
I was looking for videos like this because my brother doesn't even bother doing it because he is too lazy as always. He doesn't practice what he preach and always me who do the work. So I decided to go to youtube for help and I found your video.
thank you! good quality training, calm and efficient! and here I was trying to iron them on the reverse side (to protect the material I guess...) - it'll be soooooo much easier your way!!!
If you start to see little smudges as you iron, most likely it's a burn you're seeing which means you got your iron too hot! Turn it down a notch or more. Don't let the iron sit still on anything! Always keep that iron moving when ironing!
i hang to dry too - one thing I recommend is to button the TOP button and let it dry - it seems to prevent having a perma-floppy-collar.. unless thats your style. I like my collar to be crisp, like it came from the dry cleaners
Bill Long - Stop being a douche. This guy has made an instructional video to help a friend and others who need help with a tougher-than-most everyday task, and you're trying to call him on a slight lapse in memory? Get over yourself, and stop spreading your negativity. It has no place in the world. David Sabine - Thank you for a great video. Ignore anyone being a douche.
Ok jst tried tht wid one shirt.. Bt gt a very silly question.. With the sleeves whn u iron it, should the stiches be visible towards the front of the shirt or behind.. I put my hands in and flattened the sleeves to iron bt the armpit and the stiches jst seemed to fold both the ways!!

Hi Erik, I don't recommend using starch. It's good to make a sharp crease in wool pants or in a heavy weave shirt. Otherwise, it's too rigid for my liking.
The hardest part for me is, I always seem to create a wrinkle when doing the sleeve. I notice you only do one side of the sleeve, then you turn it over and just use a lint brush on the other side. No need to iron both sides of the same sleeve?
No need to iron both sides. If you have enough heat and just enough pressure, the iron effects both layers. (Linen and Cotton shirts need significant heat. Other materials - synthetics - do NOT need much heat.)
@@DavidSabine Thanks for the reply. Like I said, the reason I hate ironing, is I'll do a sleeve, it'll look good, I'll turn it over, do the other side, and voila! I've created a wrinkle on the other side where (I thought) I just finished ironing. Oh well, practice, practice, practice...
@@broadcasttttable, yes, the trick is to lay the garment flat (all layers) and to NOT iron both sides. Iron one side and let the heat, steam and pressure permeate both layers at once.
Thank you so much! I wanted to learn through the internet because mom always says "lEaRn hOw tO irOn" without teaching me anything like wtf what if I burn my clothes
you're a hero for single bachelors everywhere
Thanks!

Great video it helped me a lot.
Thanks! I think that's the best compliment so far.
After ironing and re-ironing my shirt for 40 minutes I decided to look up a video. Glad I did. Thank you sir, this was incredibly helpful.

My boyfriend just got a promotion at work and this video was a life saver ! You kept it super simple and completely accomplishable! Thanks tons !!
Glad I could help!
Nice job David....and lint brush too. Flat piece under collar is the "yoke" from what I remember from sewing class.
You made it look so easy. Thanks.
Thanks bro! I recently moved out and I had no idea how to iron now I save some cash doing it myself!
This was the quickest I've ever ironed my work shirt, and the best it's ever looked. Thanks for your help.

Did you look great at the prom or what?
For sure, thanks again!
This is actually one of the best tutorials out there. Just the right speed and nice trick for the sleeves.

Thanks for watching! Share it with all your bachelor friends. :)
appreciated that you started out with a normal wrinkled shirt. my first 3 videos they started with a nice ironed shirt, like wtf. thank you for this

Just got a job in capetown to be in charge of my boss house, thanks for this video it has. Really helped me
thank you for this, I had no idea how to iron sleeves as my old with shirts were all short sleeve. helped so much.

How is it that I know that the small button on the sleeve is called a gauntlet button, yet I'm still here learning how to iron a shirt?
Ditto.
Thanks for this video. I'm 15 and I am already ironing ha ha. This helped me a lot.

thanks mate, I knew how to iron, but thought i could learn another trick. and I did!
How to create the sleeves' crease!
thanks a bunch

So say I do 5 or 6 shirts on Sunday... can I do that? And then hang 'em all up in the closet for the week?
That was a great tip to put your hand in the sleeve!
I know, right?!! It works like a charm.

David Sabine Can you use your foot instead of your hand in the sleeve?
Will that work? Thx.
This is why I love the internet. Thank you for this video.
The iron does a fine job. Thanks for watching!
Very informative and clearly laid out. Thank you for sharing this!

You are very welcome. :)
Nice trick for the sleeves!
I wear a tie with some shirts, but often I don't wear a tie. For those shirts, I button the second-to-top button. This produces a more relaxed shape.
Thank you sir. Now I shall bear the knowledge and inherit it to others.
I just started doing chores and my mum said next time I have to iron my school uniform. Here I come burns!
I love the way you deal with the sleave
Ty bud, I'm 20 min away from filming a weddings lol. I always just wore polo's

Should you iron your shirt every day or can I iron them when they get out of the laundry and hang them up?

Maybe just pause the video at 3:44 -- the stitches are at the nose of the iron and look closely at the wrist. Hopefully that view is helpful.

When do you recommend using starch? Or do you prefer not to use it
Hi Erik, I don't recommend using starch. It's good to make a sharp crease in wool pants or in a heavy weave shirt. Otherwise, it's too rigid for my liking.
are you left handed or is this a mirror image?? great video by the way

Reminds me of when I taught my sons.
I am generally right-handed. This is not a mirror image.
Wow, that takes time.
