Now, going to step back, old school, from a point in time where ironing boards were folded blankets opened on a regular table and irons had only one point--- not even cords! (It is an ironing board, not a rack.)It needs to be FREE of ANY +ALL racks or cord holders !! 👕 YOKES FIT PERFECTLY at the WIDE---esp the larger shirts-- in 2️⃣ easy moves-- forming no "faux plis" -- those irritating little wrinkles that form to one side as you work the other. The FRONTS fabric will smoothly be ironed with the help of gravity in 1️⃣swoop movement. I've just discovered that I actually iron my shirts the right way. I follow the exact same order you do and I didn't learn it from anyone, I just came up with it after about 2 years of ironing my own shirts in college. Does that mean I am a natural gentleman? or are we lost relatives?
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been ironing my husband shirts for many years, but today I thought I would look up the proper way and I came across your video. I’ve been doing most of the steps in proper order, but your tips really helped me and it sped up the process.
My mother moistened shirts before ironing. She used a spray bottle with olain water and put the shirts in a plastic bag in the fridge for a while before ironing. Easier to iron that way

A few months later now, after having watched MANY of your videos , I now came back to this , realizing that it was you guys ! Thank you so much for so many great videos, you guys are lifesavers , especially for college students who live alone.
I remembering my mother's ironing routine in the 50's. She "sprinkled" each garment with water, rolled it up and put it in a large plastic bag. The sprinkler she used was a bottle with a cap that had multiple holes in it, designed just for wetting clothes.
I love this! I watched before doing my ironing and it has never felt so easy and successful. I really appreciate his attention to detail and pride in a perfect result.
Learned how to press my cloths in the Marine Corps. 21 years and many special assignments, I think I do a pretty good job ironing. Would always tell Marines that did a poor job of ironing that they have summer creases. Some are going that way and some are going the other way.. I iron all my button up shorts and t-shirts I wear away from the home. I guess it’s my Marine Corps OCD!
A+ for using a clapper and sleeve board, but you should never press your garments on the right side of the fabric. This is because contact pressing can create unwanted sheen, especially on mixed fabrics, ironing inside out hides this and keeps your clothing looking newer.
My goodness! I have been ironing shirts my whole life and do a pretty good job, but you have just taught an old dog quite a few new tricks! Thank you so much. Will you allow me a few added suggestions for beginners? Dry the shirt by hanging it on a PLASTIC hanger. Ironing between buttons? Yes, but don't forget after you have ironed all of them between, to slide the iron all the way up the outside edge and all the way up inside the buttons to smooth out the button area. Lots of people forget that final button area smoothing. That omission makes the button area look buckled up. One other suggestion: your ironing of any clothing will go better if you very first iron the INSIDE of the heavy linings: Turn the article inside out and iron all the loose pocket linings flat and smooth. the back of the buttonhole placket, the back of the waistband and zipper placket, the back of the collar support, the back of the cuff lining for sleeves and pants. Those areas also tend to be damper, so the first-off ironing helps to dry them out, and that supports a smoother and easier passage for the iron when you start the front OUTSIDE. When ironing collar corners, check your heat setting, so that you don't scorch the corners right off the bat! So annoying! Start ironing at that corner and move up the collar to the middle, then move to the other corner point and up to the middle, then iron the middle area so you have a smooth collar. If you start in the middle of the collar and move down to the corner point, you may end up with extra fabric wrinkles! Oh no! If you note the collar or armpits are stained, spray them with stain remover and throw the shirt back in the hot water wash. Do NOT iron it or you will set those stains. My order is this: iron inside plackets and heavy seams, iron sleeves and cuffs, iron the neck and collar, then iron the body of the shirt, hold, and turn to inspect. Also, begin ironing on the left seam of the body and work from the front of the article all the way around if you are right-handed. If left-handed, start at the right side seam. If the pocket linings are loose, you can pull them out of the way as you iron so that you don't get a line on the outside of the fabric. If you are ironing a shirt with front buttons, start at the right side and work your way around the back to the left front side. That way you don't get confused about where you are on the article. When you finish, hold the clothing up and take a look at it. You may need to smooth the front again where it got a little wrinkled as you turned it on the board. Pants always need to be smoothed out again across the tummy. The most difficult thing is chest pockets where the outside layer is slightly larger than the body of the shirt layer. Pull the pocket to one side and iron, and then to the other side to iron. You will avoid a crease at one of the pocket side seams that way. I have never heard of any necessity of ironing sleeves without a top crease, but to each his own. Your shirt looks great! If for any reason you just feel physically uncomfortable ironing, try turning your board to face the other way and adjust the height. (Take the iron off the board before you do that or CRASH! LOL!) Does that help? Clean the iron base plate regularly, because stuff builds up and that can ruin the article immediately, forcing you to throw it back in the wash! Arrgghh! Yes, you can clean the ironing board cover by just throwing it in the wash -ALONE! If you get board marks on your fabric thru the ironing board cover, use a bath towel or two as a lining over the board and under the board cover before tying on the board cover.
2:54 Woah thanks for explaining the interlinings! All my shirts get wavy at the seams and I assumed the thread used at the seams was a different material. Thank you these videos are gold! Well researched and straight to the point!

@@AM-tu1rc Actually - I did teach myself. It is possible. I learned by triall and error out of pure interest and motivation. I know I was probably born with that skill. Thank you and most informative. I actually love to iron my shirts but was getting the order wrong. I also use a little spray starch on my collars. Another great video though and enjoy them all.
I put my shirts in the dryer on low heat for a few minutes. It helps some wrinkles fall out and leaves shirts at the perfect degree of dampness. Never let them sit in washer after cycle!

My roommates even paid me a bit in food or snacks to iron their shirts for them because I was always crisp and sharp with every outfit I took to lectures. It's quicker to iron one side of the front from bottom-to-top, the pull the shirt around the top of the ironing board and across the yoke, then continue down the other side of the front. When done with the front, pull the shirt over the edge to iron the back. There is a lot of time saved positioning the shirt if you follow this order, especially if you're doing several at one time.

I learned how to iron in basic training for the army. If they taught your method I must have missed more than I thought, as I have been doing it backwards for 35 years.. I will need to watch this a couple more times to get rid of some other bad habits that might be lurking around.
This is absolutely arduous, I got an Elna press and it looks professional grade in a fraction of the time with way less steps. So glad I’m finished with this 😮💨
Keeping a wardrobe in good order with airing, brushing and ironing is a very satisfying hobby, I get compliments all the time for my groomed look, which includes my hair 😊
Thanks for that, I do exactly the same methods. Thought I hate it when one sleeve doesn’t falls perfectly flat on the ironing board than the other, especially when you want a crease on Top of the sleeve.
Great video, thank you. Is there any more detail on using the sleeve board? My sleeves are getting creased again during ironing because my sleeves are so long... (I'm doing the shoulder end first, then the wrist end and then rotate the sleeve?)
Great video as always. Does anyone know where to get a wide base sleeve board like Sven has in this video? I can’t find any that look as sturdy as his.
If your washer is hard water, do you think the shirts should be rinsed with distilled water? My concern is that left over hard water getting ironed into the shirt could cause issues. What do you think?
Thank you. I was never formally taught to iron. Ijust watched y father iron his uniforms. He took forever and I take forever. They teach ironing in Home ed. At least in Wyomig, where it is assumed everybody is a cowboy in and change their shirt from the age of 3 🙄 All the older generation complaind how the younger generation doesn't iron. But what the older generation fails to realize is that their parents took the time to teach them, their generation didn't not teach most basic life skills because they expect the education system to teach their children necessary skills. That's solid parenting 😄
I have a hard time neatly ironing the pleats on the back of my button shirts, and it’s time consuming. These used to be only on slim fit shirts, but now it seems like they are becoming more prevalent in other cuts too. Is there a technique for that? Don’t think I saw that in this video.
I'm a medic and I like my uniforms sharp. How do I iron around the patches so they look neat and proper? I have sleeve and a over a pocket patch. Thanks

Practical as well as a great skill to have as a man
Thanks for that, I do exactly the same methods.
It's really something like an art.
Great video and very useful for me. Do you have a video and the best way to wash your dress shirts? I can’t seem to find one.
Excellent info! Thanks much.
You can also use a high power steamer which is just as effective and takes less time.
Whoaaaa your Accent is so strong.... dass ich Deutsch nur vom zuhören gelernt habe!
Wonderful job and professional
Thanks and God bless you.
Best and no.1 teaching, thanks
valuable information! I learn a couple of new ideas and tips every vid. Thanks Sven.
I loved your style 🤍🍸👌
should you put fabric softener in your spray bottle? my family has been doing it for a good while lol
I've been ironing my own kit since I was 15. I'm now 57. This all appears to be a bit OTT, imo. This makes ironing look hard work.
Great video as always. Does anyone know where to get a wide base sleeve board like Sven has in this video? I can’t find any that look as sturdy as his.
He apparently has a link in the first video, part one.
If your washer is hard water, do you think the shirts should be rinsed with distilled water? My concern is that left over hard water getting ironed into the shirt could cause issues. What do you think?
Thanks for the detailed video,
Thank you very much, this has really helped me 🙏💚
Thank you.
I was never formally taught to iron. Ijust watched y father iron his uniforms. He took forever and I take forever.
They teach ironing in Home ed. At least in Wyomig, where it is assumed everybody is a cowboy in and change their shirt from the age of 3 🙄
All the older generation complaind how the younger generation doesn't iron. But what the older generation fails to realize is that their parents took the time to teach them, their generation didn't not teach most basic life skills because they expect the education system to teach their children necessary skills.
That's solid parenting 😄
You really need to do the yoke before sleeves / cuffs. It's very hard to properly flatten / smooth the yoke without crumpling the top of your sleeves.
After ironing you suggest to hang it up ? Folding is not good ?
Merci beaucoup,j'envoie votre video a mon fils pour qu'il fasse son éducation.
Very detailed! Thank you!
Very helpful, thank you!
Any videos on pretreating before the laundry?
I have a hard time neatly ironing the pleats on the back of my button shirts, and it’s time consuming. These used to be only on slim fit shirts, but now it seems like they are becoming more prevalent in other cuts too. Is there a technique for that? Don’t think I saw that in this video.
How much time do you spend ironing each week?
I don't know how many people have said this but Thank you
What about if you have shirts with frilled cuffs and collars? How do you iron them?
What!!?? There is a sleeveboard!!?? 😱I always wondered how you properly iron sleeves. I LOVE this video. Thank you!
I'm a medic and I like my uniforms sharp. How do I iron around the patches so they look neat and proper? I have sleeve and a over a pocket patch. Thanks
