Why does he have his bow so damn tight? I could drive a truck through the space between the stick and the hair! Great playing though.

Some very old bow. Think its ment to be like that

I think he prefers his bow to be tighter. Not quite sure why tho, maybe he feels it gives him more control. I remember going to one of his concerts in Baltimore and his bow was just as tight as it is in this video.

I love the way he interacts with the orchestra, not just the conductor. If a wind player has a solo, he watches them and imitates them when he gets that phrase. It's like chamber music.

One of very favourite pieces. What a fantastic rehearsal...so exciting to see master violinist Gil Shaham at work. Such a fine interpretation and fluid accuracy of dynamic phrasing. Wish I could be there!

All of Gil's motions are some kinda satisfying to watch.... As if he was doing random moves in the air and someone put a violin in between his arms and he just kept go on.

why would he play the high D at 0:36 with 3rd finger, but then the B at 0:42 with 4th? if he's using 3rd finger to get a better vibrato/better sound, why not be consistent?

    • @timdevries2550

Sorry but Gil definitely DOES NOT play every note in tune... ;) I have a perfect pitch and am a violinist myself but technical wise, he’s doesn’t come close to Kogan, Heifetz etc. and musically wise, well that’s personal taste but the great grand maestro’s don’t have a reputation without reason... ;) phrasing and expression from Heifetz, Kogan, Rabin and Oistrakh are much better...much cleaner and more clear

    • @outth3r3YT

Don't care about pitch (even at 6:15) , he's human. Musicality isn't based on pitch.

On fait beaucoup de " gorges chaudes " avec Heifeitz. Il y a aujourd'hui et hier beaucoup de violonistes qui le valent et de très loin. Vengerov, Perl man , Gil Shaham , Radulovic etc etc

Sorry but his playing is just unbearable to listen to with all the spotty intonation problems throughout. He is essentially playing on auto pilot at this stage in his career and it’s not working out. He is fast becoming another Shlomo Mintz......
