Fascinating podcast. I'm South African-born Chinese. My Mom's maiden surname was Lau, so the Laus in the Four Brothers Society tong really caught my interest. Thanks so much for sharing these great stories.

Great narrative. Stayed with all 3 episodes. Chinatown is still chill to go to. Take the kids to CT Ice Cream factory. Go to the park. My era was the late 70's to 80's.

More Chinese are in Queens and Brooklyn now. The real Chinatown now is Flushing Queens.

Well, everything was quiet for a while, but on March 24, 1927 word got out that two Hop Sing in Brooklyn got popped by a Ung Lyong, took two you of their itches fingers 32:20. (Great narrative) They need to make a movie about this like New York Gangster.

One question I keep forgetting to ask is why don’t Chinese restaurants serve alcohol?

Idk why they would accept known traitors who shamefully robbed their own brothers!
Idk I guess like you said it was a dangerous opportunity!

How the Tongs survive the exclusion act? Is the members all senior citizens killing each other?

Smugglers of human cargo from the west.

Hong Kong - that supposedly great British colony - always supplied a ready group of killers willing to hide and sneak into the country. That went on until the 1980's.

@@Amidat HONG Kong was ALWAYS CON TROLL by the Shitties, pardon I ment British until CHINA took over from them some years ago. THIS is why there is so much trouble thererecently as they the BRAINWASHED SHEEPLE BELIEVE that they are better than mainland CHINA and that they were loved by the British when nothing could be further from the TRUTH. As usual they will be used as long as it's CON veint to and then refused n abused so MAINLAND CHINA should be happy as the British are helping to get rid of the sheeple who would only be a weight on the government of CHINA going FORWARD as they would still be doing the bidding of the British when u really check it out.
