I'm a relative beginner I have a Jem Jr and I have to say like many others here, I don't agree this is a good choice for someone just starting out. Don't get me wrong I love my Jem, it's huge fun to play but it has some features that make it more complicated to learn on especially for a beginner. The floral pattern is harder to follow if you don't already know how to navigate the fretboard and tuning and/or restringing The Floyd Rose Bridge requires extra steps that most beginners wouldn't be aware of (I certainly leaned that the hard way).
I DO recommend a Jem, you'll be very hard pressed to any other guitar that's this rich in features and quality (not to mention beautiful) at this kind of price, but make it your second or third guitar you buy and start with of something simpler.

I would think an Ibanez Gio. They’re normally around $200 and they play great. They need a little work at first, but after you get some strings and fix the action they’re awesome.

I own both a Jem jr and a GIO and I can definitely agree at the Jem is great for beginners but the GIO is better in both price range and build specific for starting out. And working with a floyed rose is probably not the best for people starting out. I definitely prefer my jem over my GIO but for starting out the GIO is better in my opinion.

I like the jem jr, solid guitar for 500
But for beginners a floyd rose or any kind of floating trem should be the last option .
Any $500 rg with fixed bridge would be better since you can change tuning on the fly and wouldnt discourage newbies to try different stuff with their guitar. Also would save a trip to luthier every time you cant get the tuning right on the floyd rose

My first guitar was an Ibanez S521, its the first 'real' (read: not gio / beginner focussed) guitar in the Ibanez range together with the rg521 and its great. absolutely no shiney things or adornments but just a great well-built instrument (very light weight). Fixed bridge too, which might be better for a beginner. Still have that Ibanez 14 years later as my only guitar, just switched the pickups to SD's, added coil splits and a graphtech nut and now its absolutely killer.

The Jem is truly 'the Swiss Army Knife' of electric guitars. It can tackle any musical genre and make a decent stab (no knife pun intended.) at it. The Double Locking Trem is essential for all the whammy tricks but that also makes it much less Beginner friendly. Not impossible but a fixed bridge would be much easier to cope with

great guitar decided to pick this one up. Floyds def aren't good for beginners who barely know how to tune a regular guitar. I'd recommend something like the gio line or the fender player series. Guitars like those just make more sense to someone who doesn't have experience working on guitars or tuning locking trems.
