Hot tip, film how-to vids with the camera situated ‘in the first person’ so the camera is looking at the task from the same perspective you are looking at it. Looking at what you are doing with the camera in the second person perspective means that not only do we need to learn the techniques but also reverse them in our heads, corporalscorner is fantastic at this, he slowly does the technique with the camera nice and close to the work and directly over the work from the perspective of the person doing the work
I've been taught when making square lashings to always go on the inside of the previous turn. This is presumably to guarantee you dress things properly and keep the lashing tight
The Eskimos started their lashings with an Eskimo Bowline, which was discovered when analyzing a 100+ year old ceremonial lashed gift sled from first contact with Europeans. It is a really nice way to start lashings. The Eskimos are insanely good with small cord techniques.

I want to make a large trellis out of bamboo stocks for my vegetable garden. I was thinking to make it with vertical and horizontal cross pieces. Should I use square lashing or diagonal lashing or a combination? I will probably lay it out on the driveway to put it together. I don’t want it to fall apart when I pick it up to move it. I’m pretty good at knot tying but I’m new to lashing. Also what kind of rope do you suggest I use?

I am looking for a group of like-minded people, I am a jack of most trades what I don't know I can learn.I do not read well, so I'm self-taught and most things on this list but I can be taught to do better. I'm good in the garden, good in the kitchen, good in the kennels and stalls, I enjoy chopping and splitting wood, hunting and processing meat. Plus I have quite a few tactical skills as well as supplies seeds and more. Definitely need to get to know each other.

Trying not to sound like an ass, but what are the benefits of knowing these techniques as opposed to just doing a messier "wrap it until it feels strongly bound" method? the notching without frapping makes a lot of sense.
Dont want to have a messy knot that could come undone unintentionally or a knot that is near impossible to untie. Also if you know your knots itll help to save cordage and help you calculate footage required for the knot.
It'd be awesome if you made a playlist with all your videos on knots, latches, and hitches

In my experience it is about efficiently using your cordage. In the woods it is easy to run out of rope.
Dont want to have a messy knot that could come undone unintentionally or a knot that is near impossible to untie. Also if you know your knots itll help to save cordage and help you calculate footage required for the knot.
