    I agree. Woodford Reserve is an easy sipper (regardless of the offering). They have their niche. Tons of people love it and that is fine. The good news is that WR is affordable and readily available. It’s just not “special”. My advice: keep a bottle around as an easy sipper. I doesn’t matter which one you stock. There are a slew of options available if you have a few extra bucks at your disposal.

    Love those circle graphs for the mashbill.
    Great review, thanks 👍

    Excellent review, thanks for posting it. I’m on your wavelength; I had a pour of this just last night. This is the only Woodford Reserve I’ve tried, so far (double oaked is next). It’s good, though not ‘wow’ great. I’d say ‘try it’, especially as an intro. I like the Old Elk Wheat Whiskey better (95% wheat, 5% rye malt), and really recommend Old Elk. Also, I’d prefer a malt rye to a corn whiskey. ASW in Atlanta makes a pure malt rye whiskey called ‘Resurgens’ (after Atlanta resurging from the ashes of being burned down in the Civil War). It’s a good rye malt expression.

    I love Reservoir Wheat Whiskey (50% ABV) out of Virginia. It has a 100% wheat mashbill. If you can find it, grab a bottle.

    I'd be more interested in a malted rye simply because I think most people aren't aware that such a thing exists, and it'd be neat for a distillery the likes of Woodford to put one out.
    I do agree that the mash bill potentially hurts this one, but not just because of the barely legal dominant grain--the fact this is a four-grain I think compounds the issue. Having 20% barley in the mash isn't doing it any favors since it's not a particularly flavorful grain, especially when put into a virgin oak barrel. I also think the rye, despite its low percentage in the mash, potentially takes that much more away from the wheat and letting the expression emphasize its dominant grain.
    I feel like doing something closer to a 78% wheat, 12% corn, 10% barley mash bill could result in a superior (or more interesting) product.

    I feel what you are saying about being a bit disappointed because they kind of played it safe instead of really dipping into their creativity.

    Journeyman's Corsets, Whips and Whiskey is a nice wheat whiskey.

    I can actually say its one of my favorites in the Woodford Line. Very light and perfect for summer but everyone is different. Cheers my friend!

    Corn whiskey and put it in a fight to the death against mellow corn! Or just a nice low key blind would be fine.

    I finally saw this on the shelf at my Total Wine, been wanting to try it. Picked it up, have the same results as you, it's an "ok" wheat, but nothing special by any means. It will take me awhile to finish this bottle and I will not buy another Woodford wheat.

    Straight whiskey is at least 2 years. Not 4. 0:29

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary
      @TheWhiskeyDictionary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Correct. But if it's under 4 it requires an age statement on the bottle

    Woodford wants people to just pick it up off the shelf cuz it looks like normal Woodford but a tad different and then have the same nondescript experience.

    Is this still called a bourbon?

    • @TheWhiskeyDictionary
      @TheWhiskeyDictionary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope. In order to be a bourbon, it needs to be 51% corn or higher
