The LT 15 is a good solid mill for sure and that was a pretty good day on it. As for the big logs just take small slabs and keep turning and wittleing them down. You should be ok as long as you can still clear the logs with your sawhead carriage. This could be your only challenge but if you ever face that problem a great way to solve it is a log that big is a great candidate for quarter sawing so before putting a log to big for your carriage on the mill go ahead and split it and go for quarter saw it will improve the quality of the lumber with less lose of wood than whittling. Just a bit of advice from an old Sawyer that has been in those shoes and seen and done about everything that could get thrown at him. Although my experience was a circle mill I often got logs the blade just couldn't reach through. So this was how I learned to get the best out of tough situation.

Hello. I love your channel, as does my son. As an old man, nearing 60 and having worn hearing aids for about 10 yrs, I get concerned when people take their hearing for granted. I can't tell whether everyone is wearing ear plugs but I hope for their sake, they are. I lost mine from loud vacuums and table saws.Keep up the great work. JC

I find it totally therapeutic watching and listening... I was painting while this clip was on... the sound alone kept me interested so I'd glance up ever now and then... that log toward the end - I think it was a cedar... beautiful!!

Very nice machine! Watching this is oddly satisfying. Only design flaw I see is the sawdust is dumped exactly where the operator has to walk. I'd add a little deflector lip to send it out away from the rails another foot or two.

You are doing a nice job with it. I would make all my stickers 4 feet long. And be sure they are dry wood. Wet and green stickers will stain the wood when it is drying. We make all our stacks 4' wide, and are sure that the sticker on the ends of the boards is as close to the end of the board as possible. This prevents warping and cracks. The cracks will go in as far as the sticker. Green pine needs good ventilation too.
Well, I guess that sawmill is worth the price. I think if you take a chainsaw and go right down the middle of those big logs you can split them in half longways. You'll need a wedge or a big heavy steel bar but you can spilt them. Nice music for a country boy. Enjoyed this one.
Sawyers: A 2x4 is 1 1/2" X 3 1/2". A 1x12 is 3/4" X 11 1/4". So when you use your WoodMizer gauge, what do you aim for (full inches?) and do you take the blade width into account?
Holy sawdust pile, Batman. That's some beautiful straight grain lumber you got yourself into. Even that ugly log had a lot of pretty wood in it. Somebody's going to have a right nice bonfire when that scrap dries out, and somebody's got a nice looking piece of land. Now, onto another subject. Is there much of a covid 19 problem in your area? I ask because here in Cody, and by extension, Park County , there is just one case. The county is the size of Conn. and Rhode Island put together, and the population is less than my home town in Massachsetts by 6600 people. You're out in the country so I imagine social distancing is easy for you too, but I remember you saying in an earlier video that you work as an x-ray tech, so I pray you are staying safe. I imagine cutting trees and milling them into lumber is a great stress reliever.

Hello, I enjoy and intrigued on what it takes to get wood planks cut. I know it's hard work and thank you for taking us through the whole process. Can you make a base for a table the next time you get a tree with a wide section? ( where the main tree trunk would start to separate upward) I think you would have to stand and secure the section between the frame rails. I think if you could you would make a lot of money making bases for tables, especially with cedar trees.
We have absolutely loved our Lt28, like you said small mill big production. What degree blades are you running? We have been running some big knotty white pine lately, and the 4 degree have been phenomenal for us. Keep up the great work look forward to your videos.

Did you cut and use stickers from the same logs? Just curious to hear of more experiences from sawyers that use fresh cut wet stickers...have a great start to your week!
You might get more wood out of the log, and maybe slightly faster production, if during the "Get rid of Bark" phase you took a few 4 and 6 inch cuts. Them you could go back and get some 4x4 and 6 inch posts? bagging that cedar dust might be valuable too, sell it at the local potpurri store. Just a thought.
just curious because I do not know anything about milling but would love to buy one to mill the wood on my mom's property and take down oaks to close to the house. So I am wondering if you have one end higher so the mill will pull itself along via gravity. I have noticed all other mills or level....or maybe it is the camera angle.....thanks.

One Wood-Mizer works here in Northern Germany since over 20 years ... But we use traktor for put tree on it.

I think it's funny how a wood that is rot-resistant seems to be rotten a lot in the center of the log more than not.

It's a very capable machine, I'm sure I haven't found all of it's potential yet.

Nice job! My only gripe would be with the mill itself. I think they should have put the controls on the other side, opposite of the sawdust discharge.

Have you though about using the scraps from the 4 sides that still have that round shape and cutting their rough sides to make log like siding

Do you mix any kind of alcohol with the water when you mill pine? Ive ordered a mill and heard the sap will gum up on blade.
