I know the black walnut is special, and a site to behold in person with those bright yellow sap wood colors and dark contrast, but at the end of the day, oak has always held a special place in my heart for different projects, nothing in the world like it and we are blessed to ahem access to it. Thank for sharing this video with us, I will be sawing soon, I have a lt15 wide coming my way soon and I have been waiting for about 4-5 years now, my own reasons not wood mizers, I am so excited, thanks for sharing this video and keep up the great work sir.

Hello Dale, and welcome. We do love our black walnut, but good quality quartersawn oak is awesome. I can't say I have a favorite, but there are plenty that we really like. Either way, we are always amazed when we open a log, and see what has been created.

Aug 25, 21 ~ I'm over the hill but loved working with wood an metal in my past. Love the TH-cam docs on anything home built. You & Deb make a great partnership.
I live in what was rural Central Florida. The City folks are fleeing cities like NYC MOVING HERE WITH LITTLE TO NO KNOWLEDGE OF ECOLOGY! The local greedy Politicians enable the contractors to fill in Florida's water filters! (our swamps). The White Oaks are being bull dozed down and burned! OMG!
I suggest you wood millers all over this great country of ours get logging trucks and salvage what is going up in flames!
In my opinion these White Oaks are compatible to Black Walnut in wood grain. :o) Imagine a 10' White Oak Captains table 2" thick with matching chairs. A can of walnut stain and your home carpenter shop would result in lots of $$$$$$ //
They're burning trees that are 300 yrs old here on our swamps! Save a tree from Hell.

Hello Stephen, and welcome. I have some Oxalic acid, and was thinking of trying it, but others have said to leave the stain. Its part of the history of the tree. I'll just have to find someone like that to buy those boards, or use them myself, in a project.

I feel the same way. The wide head mills came out the year after we bought this one. We check on conversion. Unless someone makes a custom head, and a way to support it, you can't convert it.

      As described by Gene Wengert.
A cant is a partially sawn log with at least one flat side. That is, you can have a one-sided cant (sawn on one side only and the other three sides still round), a two sided cant (sawn on two sides, usually opposite sides), three sided, and four sided. As can be seen from the earlier postings, the definition is not clear in everyone's mind, so it is best to specify what you mean by using a modifier in front of the word "cant."
Thats the best definition I've seen yet.
