This box set and the additional blisters are one of my biggest hobby white whales, wish I'd have picked it up back in the day, but hadn't discovered my love for 10mm wargaming yet.
Good video, thanks for posting, you have my interest! I have a copy of this in my loft, fully complete and about 2/3 painted, along with some Copplestone castings miniatures. I will be watching your future posts on this with interest!
@grahamlloyd7157 Glad you enjoyed it! Hopefully you'll be inspired to dig them out and paint up the rest! I definitely plan on buying some of those Copplestone Castings miniatures - lovely sculpts.
I was in posession of a set of rules for a while, bought them on ebay without any idea what they were. I was going to use some very very old 25mm figures with them, but I just could't cope with learning a new set of rules by myself. Very impressed with your work to paint 800 figures.
You know I saw another TH-camr making custom 10mm lotr and using fan modified warmaster for rules I did not realize their was actually a GW game that did just that
@jmaccsarmiesofArda I also found and bought a sealed copy of 3rd (or 4th?) Edition Blood Bowl at the same time which had also long been OOP. It was a good day! And no worries, that scene of you rooting through your bin looking for nuln oil had me proper laughing.
Like you i found this game in a little hobby shop, that was not long after it came out. To my shame i have never painted anything up. It is a stunning box set though and you have done a great job on yours
There's a possibility we might get a spiritual successor to this with wargames atlantic's grand battle scale minatures. They've shown off some orcs for the range, teased dwarves and strongly hinted there will be an accompanying ruleset.
@1rnw792 I've seen the Orcs and they look superb and seem a perfect for fit BoFA or Middle-Earth in general. I didn't know they were doing Dwarves as well - that's very exciting!
I have six copies and a bunch of extra troops plus the metal units. Second hand shops are good for it. Humans are great alternative Empire or Brets, and the Elves are in my Wood Elf list now. The Smaugs make great objectives/scenario event hazards. Love the game, and the lists are relatively balanced to run against Warmaster lists.
@nagashthegod Wow, six sets! That's incredible. That's interesting that you say the lists are balanced with other Warmaster game. I was thinking of creating separate, expanded lists for Elves, Dwarves and Men and I was wondering if I could use some Warmaster ancients lists as a basis but wasn't sure how balanced they would be against the evil list.
Hello there! lovely painting and was happy to see the update on this project! Hope to see some battle reports soon, too! Any interested in selling the hills from starter box? Cheers
@robbyv101 Thanks! Sadly, not for sale, sorry. Games Workshop are selling the old plastic hills on their website again, though. They're very similar but not modular like these ones.
@@TimelessTabletopGaming No problem. Unfortunately, I was tricked into buying those hills when they were rereleased, thinking they were the modular ones! (they are still pretty nice though)
LOL. We get the joke @9:26 where the text refers to units identified by letters, but the graphic uses numbers for each stand. The editors and proofreaders owe Mr. Priestly a pint. Also, I am working on simulating BoFA using a very similar army list but the improved Warmaster Revolution (WR) rules, and in old school 25mm. I am sure you've heard of WR, and you may want to use the improvements made in that fan written system, accepted by GW as not violating copyright.
@shawnzeppo4361 Haha, I'm glad someone spotted that in that pic. The rules are written in a very cluttered way and then examples like that just don't help. I've watched a set of videos on the Warmaster Revolution rules. The differences seem quite subtle but I need to look into it more. Capping orders to 3 per unit makes sense though I imagine getting off more than that becomes pretty unlikely anyway. Good luck with your own project, that sounds exciting!
I only finished SOME of my figures two years ago, and still have more, much more to go, including third party. I only did the hills last month, that was the hill halves in the box, plus you could buy a second set, and they join together to make a hole hill
@@TimelessTabletopGaming@TimelessTabletopGaming my impetus was a photo shoot for a modelling channel. I painted two hill halves as dark, vertical cliff faces as part of a Morgoth Vs Fingolfin duel After that, I thought "might as well do them properly"
@colinspeirs I've just taken a look. Excellent work! I love that you put in the craters made by Grond. You really nailed the scene. Thanks for sending it over!
This is the first time I’ve come across your channel and just wanted to say… Great video and I’m excited to see more Middle Earth! 1 new subscriber here 👋🏼 Also, I would be very interested to know the name of the hobby shop you mentioned… as I work in Hertfordshire (live just outside, in Bedfordshire) but it sounds like it is worth a visit! 😀
@jackcade6344 Ah, cool! The shop is Lost Ark Games which at the time was in Buntingford. It moved soon after to Stevenage, but sadly recently downsized to a smaller shop (still in Stevenage) that focuses on space for gaming tables rather than stock. It's a shame because it used to have a really eclectic mix of stuff. Are there many good hobby shops in Beds? I visited the Bedford Tabletop Expo earlier in the year which was small but showed some promise.
@@TimelessTabletopGaming ahh, yes I know Lost Ark Games in Stevenage (I work in Stevenage) 😀 Keep up the great content, always happy to see more middle earth stuff as I mainly just play MESBG 👍🏻 (and board games)

@@TimelessTabletopGaming sounds good! I’ve just got the new Rise of Angmar book and we’re going to play through some of the narrative scenarios (once the relevant models have been bought, built and painted…. We were working our way through most of the Quest of the Ringbearer scenarios… but they we had a baby (who’s now 14months old) and so that fell away 😂 Thanks for the offer of a game, hopefully we can get that sorted sometime 👍🏻
I remember this being released. Seems cool. Just would want more from something like that. More releases.. But on the other hand.. If it is good.. Sure, why not?

I regret not picking this up when it came out
I regret getting rid of it about a decade ago. I mean, chances are it would still just be sitting on a shelf or unloved in the attic but...still.
I stared at that box at my LGS for literally years and never bought it :(
Another sub. I’m here for the 10mm fantasy!
