  • Esophageal Stenosis (Esophageal Stricture)-
    Abnormal tightening or narrowing of the esophagus.
    Mainly Due to fibrosis of Esophageal Mucosa
    Stenosis can be both congenital or acquired.
    Cause-
    1- Congenital
    2- Acquired- Post surgical
    F.B.
    Drugs- lesions due to tetracyclines, aspirin, vit-c
    Corrosive (most common)
    Radiotherapy
    Peptic ulcer
    Gastroesophageal reflux disorder
    Neck cancer
    hiatus hernia
    Clinical feature-
    Pain
    Dysphagia
    Malnutrition
    Dehydration
    Hemorrhage
    Recurrent Respiratory Infection
    Burning sensation in the neck or throat.
    Feeling of food getting stuck in your throat.
    Frequent episodes of choking.
    Investigation-
    Gastroscopy Barium meal X-ray Esophageal manometry
    Treatment-
    Esophageal Dilation Endoscopically Regular Esophageal Dilation
    Surgical Management- only in 10-20% cases
