    What do you guys think of the ChatGPT + Maya Combination? I know AI is a controversial topic at the moment so I'd love to hear your thoughts on this subject.

    I've been doing Python programming for the past months to make scripts for animators and I tried chatGPT as a learning tool. As it stands it's okay for the most basic operations, I'm interested to see how it develops to handle nuances. Often times when I'd go to chatGPT to solve a problem, it would make up answers, giving me commands in python that don't even exist or just don't work. It appeals to people that don't wanna do scripting, but even then you can always just copy paste the mel output of the operations you want to automate. It doesn't go much complex from there, or I may just be bad at prompting xD I think it's very useful for learning Python though, for asking it about syntax and referencing it for stuff like that.

      Hey Petar, excellent input and I agree it's good for people like myself not familiar with scripting. Having said that just seeing how simple it is to create a box with buttons to call scripts made me wonder "why have I not try this before?". It's an excellent tool to get people hooked into creating their own scripts which is good for everyone.

      For me I think that this is just a beginning and soon we will see something incredible and amazing juste like a magic, when you transform the words into shapes and modeling objects, and why not full animation with textures and all the lighting and shading and for the final result amazing rendering that you even haven't imagined...

    This is really powerful try asking it to make an FK/IK switch tool for the rig in your scene. I’m pretty sure it will do it as it can spit out code for a generic one.

    There are certainly similarities between the AI revolution and when 3D came to be. Back then people were afraid that the computer is gonna kill traditional animation but it only created more opportunities. 2D animation isn't dead, it's flourishing more than ever. We can see that animators ain't going anywhere, that's almost certain. What I do think might happen with all this "created by AI" controversy is that people actually start caring about who made the thing they're looking at. That would be great.

      Couldn't agree more Adam, I made a video about AI and what it means for games and the animation industry and basically states what you mention above. Thanks for watching

    Yeah Autodesk is working on its own version (or to some capacity). I think they're calling it "Autodesk Assist" or "Maya Assist".

      ah yes, I've just googled and found it. Thanks for sharing....seems to be in the development at the moment. Looking forward to giving it a try once out.

    Definitely, this is a game changer. So far, I didn’t know about how to make the Python script well. Even though I learned Python a little online, the Program language class does not focus on Python with Maya. I don’t know how this could improve my animation work process, but this is gonna be a big change to me.

    It would actually be a great tool to help learning coding in maya in this moment. But I am already trying to imagine if we will write "create a aggressive run cycle with the speed XX for rig XX" now.

      @ediscoveredinchrome ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I imagine there would have to be very deep learning of millions of frames of motion capture data, or keyframe animation. And for it to convey emotion in the animation, now that's another story. I don't see anything like this happen anytime soon. Maybe simple body mechanics.

    • @jianyuan7670
      @jianyuan7670 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ediscoveredinchrome Yeah, we might get some sort of simple motions created by AI in a much shorter time.

    • @harveynewman
      @harveynewman  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ediscoveredinchrome Absolutely EB, that's how I see it too. Emotions are incredibly personal and so is creative nuance which animation relies on quite a lot. But let's see. :) Thanks for watching

      @@harveynewman btw (biased) but I think GPT is fantastic. :) It's not always going to give you what you want, at least in GPT 3.5 but it makes that first step very easy and encourages pros who may not know how to code to jump in and get their feet wet. So its properly fantastic for learning code and with just a little bit of python knowledge you can now go a long way!

    Just a head's up, Duplicate Special is a tool that already exists within Maya. It creates an array of dupllicates just like the one you made in the vid...
    But yea this ChatGPT integration tech isnt there yet imo. For many visual arts related things, its faster and more accurate to use your mouse rather than use a written or voice command.
    But yea, I think these types of integration tools will eventually help ppl learn scripting/programming and/or replace the need for ppl to learn programming syntax.
