Godzilla (2014): THE DIRECTORS CUT-we never got!

- It’s been 6 years since Godzilla returned to cinema’s and the 2014 film is still remembered both fondly and negatively, but like most other films, Godzilla 2014 had a number of scenes and shots cut out before it was released, so by going through multiple trailers, tv spots, featurettes, special features and scouring the web, this is what the director’s cut for Godzilla 2014 may have looked like!

Can't wait! Also, I love the Monsterverse! Godzilla 2014 is the best film in the Monsterverse because of the serious tone and the vast shots of the monsters are quite impactful and the film itself is quite thrilling and horrifying in an epic way but as we have different directors over the four films, it has its own unique tone and style but I would love if they make a more grounded film in the future so we will see but yeah... loving the Monsterverse!

man it's a shame we'll never see gareth's godzilla trilogy. the monsterverse movies we have are fine but none of the sequels capture the sense of scale and fear that 2014 did.
Ugh why can’t directors and filmmakers make up their minds and not cut out scenes that would fit in the films extremely well?
Probably studio interference
The studio, and movie producers can have alot of control over a director, so it was likely do to that

Right? Off the bat, that opening scene would've been awesome! A great set up to the movie, set up historical context, and get our first peek at Godzilla early on. Win, win, and win!
And cutting out Akira Takarada's scene was so wrong. There should be a director's cut that includes that scene. Another thing that has happened is that I'm sure the first time I saw the movie at a theater it was two hours and ten minutes. Suddenly it was shortened by seven minutes. We Godzilla fans would have loved a film that ran almost two and one-half hours for it to contain all the footage needed. That Godzilla scene with the ships definitely needed to be in.
Still holding out for a 4k release at least.
They're doing it
Step 1 - Edit the movie down by 10-15 minutes
Step 2 - Add every available second of Godzilla screen time
Step 3 - Restore Akira Takarada's cameo back into the film
Step 4 - Redo the color grading to give the film a more effective visual pallette
Final Result - You immediately have a film that is 10-20% better

Too bad the people that did the comic con trailer didn't make the movie. The trailer showed a much grittier version than what we got. In Godzilla 2014 he never killed any human intentionally. They were more like collateral damage.
Warner has a habit of not releasing directors cuts of films... until there’s a whole # for it.

Also sadly that they replaced pterodactyl and rockmutul to Muto.
While I do like both of those Titans, I still prefer the M.U.T.Os. They are pretty underrated and a very interesting character, in their designs and behaviors
@@CoreVin975 female muto kinda reminded me of Orga Goji 2000 film. Hell, the muto prime kinda does resemble Orga.
And did anybody notice that the fire fighter shown after the blast looked a lot like Joe Brody? I was so hoping a future movie would have Cranston and Binoche back as the twin uncle and aunt of Ford. Unlike so many others, I had no problem with Joe Brody dying early in the movie as it made more of an impact for the rest of the film and the saying, "whatever it takes" meant so much for the characters of the film. The loss of Joe provided the hurt the film needed as we see Ford become stronger and when Godzilla is revealed to be useful to helping mankind, we are happy but also pained that Joe is not there to share it with the other characters and us. Maybe this directors cut would answer this but I read somewhere that someone said like from the movie like script or something that apparently during the Muto fight when they were tag teaming Godzilla, he was apparently “begging for mercy” does anyone know if this is true?

I'd love to see a Godzilla movie that actually follows through on the whole "Godzilla is unstoppable and will destroy us all" thing. It'd be great. Like a sort of kaiju-ified Fallout or something like that.

The film needs 5 minutes of non-Godzilla footage removed, and 2 minutes of Godzilla footage added. Then it would be much more effectively balanced.
And make everything on the tvs their own scene. Cuz some of the TV scenes playing in the background were really glorious.

Let me guess, this director's cut would have had even LESS screentime for Godzilla, right? I mean it's not like this movie was sold on the blatant lie that Godzilla would be a main character or the center of the plot and story or anything.
No. This film did not create the Monsterverse. The next three films have nothing to do with the 2014 film as they all have various continuity issues.

I started to watch this and then when the narrator got to his “funny” verbal stumble over Chris Mirjahangir’s name I turned it off. In addition to being extremely disrespectful, and also suggests that the producers of this channel aren’t able to do the most minimal amount of research necessary, and so anything they present is going to be suspect. Godzilla is a Japanese property. I’m sure a lot of the creators of the franchise have what you’d consider “funny” foreign names, too. Please try to do better in the future.
