I remember my parents teaching me about the power of boycotting. They never bought anything that came from S/A until the day apartheid ended, neither have they bought Israeli products for years. The wisdom of the elders in my family has always humbled me, and this wisdom is always being passed on. In a nutshell be a human and never support the oppression of any other...

It seems so crazy to me that there are people out there who still deny that Israel is an apartheid state, considering how much evidence there is it almost feels like people who deny this live in a whole different reality.

Another riveting interview. As a white South African who lived in South Africa during those awful, horrific years, it is a constant deep sadness for me that I wasn’t more active and more vocal during that time. I had no real platform except as a teacher, and I spent many years teaching both black and white high school students, trying to open minds and support individual struggles. It came to the point where my sense of helplessness overwhelmed me and I left. I’m back in South Africa now and every day I’m almost on my knees with gratitude that this beautiful country is where is it today. My support for Palestine is absolutely unconditional. Keep on keeping on Owen.

Even if there are differences in the apartheid spectrum no one can doubt clear cut persecution, dehumanisation and systematic destruction of human spirit in SA and Palestine. That practice had existed in occupied West Bank and Gaza way before October 8. Many human beings around the world are watching it from the lens of injustice and the western politicians are bent backwards to justify injustice exercised by Israel.

I was actually really surprised but so grateful that South Africa has recognised that what is happening to Palestinians is indeed apartheid and oppression. I saw a video today of a sniper having shot a baby and father in Gaza as they were walking, the father as dying puts his hands on his daughter who is already shot dead. I am just truly sickened by Israel 's brutality. What makes me feel better is that there is always an end for the opressers and Israel will see its end, humanity always wins over Evil. 😢

Thank you! As a German who is just experiencing how the freedom of speech as guaranteed by our constitution has been restricted by the government and people are frightened to speak out, it is a relief to get thoughtful voices based on the principles of the general human rights. As of now everybody in Germany who gets a funding by the government has to sign an agreement to conform to the IHRA definition of antisemitism, meaning that basically every critique of the Israeli system is deemed antisemitic and will lead to the loss of fundings. The silence and opportunism of the cultural sector and media is the most shocking.

You can't have apartheid with an occupied territory. If that were the case, the Western occupation of Germany was also apartheid, so was Soviet occupation of Germany, so was German occupation of European countries, etc. Basically every single military occupation in history would be "apartheid". This interview took place a month before Andrew Feinstein was chosen to stand against Keir Starmer in the forthcoming GE which makes it all the more relevant. Especially to Holborn and St Pancras constituency.

Thank you both for all your moral stand and the amazing work you do. Andrew, I remember as a teenager that I forbid my parents to buy any South African products as part of my opposition to the abhorrent apartheid system. I hope that there can be an effective boycott against Israel too. I am also very grateful that the South African government filed a case against Israel at the ICJ.

As a young white South African adult (22) I would like to personally thank you Owen and Mr. Feinstein for this fascinating discussion. I've only recently gained an understanding of where I stand in politics and have always found topics like these messy and very complicated, but you both made it easy to understand and expanded my knowledge of my nation's history. Thank you very much and I sincerely hope that there will one day be a time where we can finally say that we have won the struggle for freedom.
