I remember back in the early 2000's, I was at the local boxing gym and I was sparring with another guy. All of the sudden my boxing coach yells at me, "WHY YOUR HANDS DOWN?!!" (I was imitating Roy's style). I yelled back at my coach 'That's how Roy Jones does it". My coach got mad and shouted "You ain't Roy Jones!!" Haha, good times
Never happened.
@@johnnysprocketzas much as it dosent sound real prob is had this experience while dodging with my hands down like silva he might’ve just said it robotically in the comment

Props to Roy for still fighting. Miss him in his prime he was a beast.
Yes sir he was, tried my best to watch every one of his fights.,
BASSICALLY 50 AND 0 BEFORE HIS FIRST LOSS. HE WILL ALWAYS BE ONE OF THE GREATEST.

Roy looked really good for 54! 🔥🥊👊🏼
My statement would be... He looked 54!
@@natethompson8740 I understand, some of the mobility was slow yes I admit. But if you think theres ever been a 54 with that sort of stamina and hand speed you're mistaken 👍🏼🥊 It was very entertaining and competitive
@@thedublinator3685 I got you bro. I understand what you're saying but a part of me feels sad about watching this.
@@natethompson8740 Yes I see where you're coming from, trust me. But I have watched almost all of his 2010s fights and I can assure you he had much worser, uneventful and unfair fights. Even so, I'd rather him lose competitively than win an easy fight like he had done the last few years. He looked great but yes I understand, be happy he had fun, threw damn good punches and came out the other end happy 👍🏼🥊

Nah. Prime Pettis kicks him into oblivion.
In boxing yea, prime pettis finishes him in 30 seconds in mma 🗿😂
@@RRP5.7 no in MMA Anthony would be in danger vs prime Jones because he has average grappling
@@garryjones1776 perhaps but if Roy hits him it’s over and he won’t knock him out with one kick so who knows
@@RRP5.7 why are u bringing up mma when this is boxing where they fought
If Roy had a new pair of knees he might've won this. His footwork suffers a lot from the knee pain, and that was one of his biggest strenghts.
His footwork was his greatest strength. No one could hit him cause they could never find him. As he got older he started standing more flat footed and that's when he started getting caught.
no expert here, but I was focused on the same thing. Someone make sure he gets my knees if I go before he hangs em up!
Maybe he should stop risking more serious injuries. I love Roy so much and it hurts me to see him doing this still
@@erichasrie8721 thank you finally someone who sees it they always say it was his reflexes of course it was that too, but in his prime but it was more so his footwork that saved him from getting hit when he was in his prime
Thats what I was looking at. His knees looked like that was in bad shape. Looked like he was fighting arthritis.
Crazy he's in this kind of shape at 54 man. Roy Jones Jr is a living legend. Much respect! Pettis's boxing looked good too. Much respect to them both.
Why is he an odd thing to be inshape at 54?
He looks like a 54yo dude. What shape do you think he's in?
@@Veedub112 because many aren’t even that in shape at 54

To me, Roy is the truest definition of a fighter. He may not be as fast as he used to, he may not be as mobile, he may not have the same head movement and feints, but he LIVES for fighting and will probably be in matches till the day he dies. I don’t know any other fighter with that level of dedication and love for the sport. Truly inspiring.
He needs to hang up the gloves and train younger fighters
"may" not?
All correct, but may he try to get in shape physically if possible (he is clearly very fat) some may say that extra weight doesn't mean he isn't in shape -- but it is a fact, and he never was a fat guy when was in shape, so for him it is exactly what he should look like when in shape.
How about Hopkins (Bhop) my boy?
oh please....he needs money....period. its sad
RJJ is a legend, looked really good for his age against a mid 30's Anthony Pettis, crazy to think about. Now, I'd say, based on this performance, Mike might actually beat Pettis.

Shoutout Jorge masvidal for putting this event on. I see him out here doing business outside of the UFC

Prime Roy was amazing ! He was so fast and naturally talented plus the hard work he put in on top of that natural talent and speed made him the great boxer he was. The thing is for athletes primes don’t all last the same obviously and I remember back in the day it seemed like it happened so fast and I guess in a way it did with Roy losing and getting knocked out badly those first 2 times back to back. I’ve watched a lot of boxing and seen a lot of k.o’s over the years but it just hit me differently seeing a guy who seemed so super human get knocked out so brutally like that from 2 boxers who really weren’t even known as big punchers. I wish he would have retired a long time ago after winning some ceremonial fights he had over a decade ago now! But for some reason he still chooses to get in the ring and do these circus events. It’s finally hit me as simple as it is, that the dude is just doing what he wants to do in life! You only live once so you might as well do it how you want!
Y’all must’ve forgot!
☎️ Beautifully put! I couldn't stand Roy Jones JR! But, the worse thing that could have happened to boxing was when he got knocked out twice in 2004 from moving up to Heavy Weight to fight Ruiz in 2003 then coming back down to light heavyweight and not being the same fighter ever again!
🥊I was sitting in front of the TV when Glen Johnson had him on the ropes beating him up! And I was happy but then the boxing fan in me who respects greatness started to kick in and I was saying something just isn't right with Roy and I was waiting for one of the greatest fighters I've ever seen to emerge!
🥊But shortly after that he got Knocked out badly. And to be honest that's when my whole perception of Roy changed and I said I may have just witnessed one of the greatest boxers ever who I didn't like career just end 😞
It made me realize how I took him for granted all of those years hating on him because I thought he was to arrogant.
But, in all actually he should have been as arrogant as he was because he was one of the greatest fighters ever with probably the best boxing talent an God given skills ever in one fighter.🥊

It was a fully sanctioned professional bout that went on Roy’s record, whoever sanctioned it should be ashamed sometimes fighters need to be saved from themselves
Besides those "if", a 54 years old roy still won this fight and got robbed.
Roy being 54. He gets around better then some of us in our 30s. The key staying active and lots of cardio 😊

I'm not disputing that he did well btw
If you move like a 50 year old in your 30s thats on you

145, 155, 170 to 200. Modern day BJ Penn
Dude should fight Jake Paul
Most fighters or wrestlers cut 30-40lbs at a time (unless told to do otherwise.) When i wrestled in college i was 135-152ish and i walk around 168 and im far ftom a professional athlete. Its not uncommon for these guys to do it, especially when its literally their only job to do. A pro fighter at like 155ish could walk around and pack on to 190 no problem. (Khabib walks around and trains at almost 200lbs, among many others... and pettis has a big frame)

Sad seeing Roy like this. He was an idol and is a legend. Best pure skill fighter ever.
Jones just couldn't do anything to stop Pettis' from coming forward, and he stayed a little busier throughout the fight. Jones did look really good tho. I wanted to see Jones use more movement on defense. When Pettis let punches go, Jones just stood there with a high guard and took them, I think it made Pettis look a little better than he was.

Shame on Jorge for putting this circus act together! Roy on the his day none of these dudes could touch him
Even Roy at 44 year old beats this version of Pettis.
Just unbelievable how Jones tarnished his legacy.. He starting to be remembered for commentating, getting knocked out and losing fights more than his middleweight reign in the 90s
I'm looking at some of these comments. Mostly positive about Roy Jones Jr. still fighting at 54 yrs old and some comments saying it's a shame he's 54 and still trying to box. Well, first I give it up to both Jones Jr. and Pettis. Pettis even having the heart to even step in the ring being out of his league from MMA and fighting a super legend that knows boxing. My hat goes off to Pettis for that and he looked impressive for his first professional debut. Plus, Jones Jr. even considering to still box at 54. Most wouldn't be thinking of boxing anymore at 54. But, in my opinion; he still has the will to box and if he can still box; why not. Jones Jr. has to be in incredible shape at 54 and boxing 8/3 min rounds. Alot of people would be gassed after 1 round. And he still can throw those hands. Maybe not like he use to but in his prime. Especially all in the 90's nobody was touching him. Middleweight, Light heavyweight, Heavyweight. Champion in all those divisions. Plus, I remember for awhile he was the undisputed champion in middleweight with all the belts. My favorite boxer of all time. Legend would be an understatement.

Good fight, at least they were trying to and actually hitting each other. FairPlay to Jones obviously slower but didn’t look fazed at all.
Didn't even know Jorge Masvidal had a boxing promotion.
Man if Roy got on a serious diet plan and cut off about 20 pounds he would gain almost all of his old speed back. Simple peripheral unneeded weight is the only thing slowing him down. It's much easier to store unnecessary weight in the arms and outer extremities as you get older or with poor diet. A strict diet would cut all of that off.
Shit, all things considered Roy looked pretty good in there! Gamebred FC is becoming pretty damn cool
Bruh both fighters are thicc, but damn pettis got extra thicc. For those that are from boxing and not ufc, he was a much smaller weight fighter in his prime, and he has just left or is still in it. This guy was new school 10 years ago. Showtime cage flying kicks was this guy. He was almost skin and bone in his ufc days.
As an boomer casual lol, this is a shock to the system seeing pettis this bulky.
