COOLEST AIRPORT EVER? - THE JEWEL, SINGAPORE

- In this video, we're coming at you from Singapore's Changi Airport. Although we're not flying anywhere, we HAD to show you guys this airport. This isn't your standard boring airport. In Terminal 1 of Changi Airport, you'll find "Jewel". The Jewel houses a massive 40M tall indoor waterfall that comes from the roof and the water falls down all the way to the basement. If that isn't epic enough, this waterfall is surrounded by one of Singapore's largest indoor gardens with thousands of trees and hundreds of thousands of shrubs all around.

7:29 when it first opened, this area had these firm colourful cushions that looked like boulders. But children were ravaging them by playing with it and throwing it at one another. A couple of days later when I went down, all had been removed

Yup , the "Voltex" is a favourite with the kids, my son and nephew go absolute bonkers standing right in front of it...Great you guys are having a blast over there.
We loved it. Could easily spend hours walking around there and exploring.

Alternatively, you can rent your bikes from the Hub and Spoke cafe a few mins walk from the place you rented the bikes. Bikes costs $10/hr if I’m not wrong with special promotion Eg buy 1 hrs get 1 free on weekdays, and 2hr get 1 free on weekend.
At the end of your bike ride, if you choose to come back to Changi Airport, you can pay $3 to shower at Hub and Spoke. They provide shampoo, shower gel, hair dryer, lockers etc. You just need to bring your own towel.
Alternatively , the other options would include Biking from Changi to
1. Changi Village Hawker Centre (via the new Changi Boardwalk) and return at Changi Village Bike shop.
2. East Coast Park. Have your meals at the East Coast Lagoon Hawker (think satay, Hokkien mee, char kway teow, Bak Kut teh, rojak, sugar cane…etc) and return the bike at East Coast
3. Marina Bay (via gardens by the bay) and return at Singapore Flyer.
Oh, and all are paved and safe for kids. 👍 None require biking on road if I remember correctly.
Those are all excellent options Ryan! We did ride by the Hub and Spoke, but at that point we already had our bikes rented. If we would’ve known about these options when filming, we would’ve most definitely done it differently 😃. I’m sure your comment will help someone out though.

I remember first visiting Jewel back when it was only 5 months old (back in late 2019)! Had to go to the top floor to see the night lightup of the vortex waterfall cuz the area around the vortex was SO crowded. Hard to imagine that Jewel would become so quiet and empty only a few months after that visit.
Maybe it’s busier at certain times when there’s more people travelling. This is our first time there, so we don’t know how it is at other times.

Personally, I think it is unfortunate that such bicycle sharing model did not take off in Singapore, I really liked them. Glad you enjoyed your time though ! Welcome to Singapore !

Long ago the main feature of the airport was a very tall sculpture with seemingly having strings of water flowing down vertically. Too bad this piece of decoration had been removed. There are other contemporary art works now

@@AttilaAndZae Yes correct. I purposely go there to see the artwork. During covid 19 they are shut down though. In fact I think T2 and T4 were shut down then. There are kinetic rain, metal clouds, daisy fan... All very impressive
@@AttilaAndZae yes. If want to stay here for 14 days, each day there would definitely be something to do. Zoos, bird parks, river safrai, sentosa... So many things to do. And very little travelling time required. I don't know why people complain it is boring here and scheduled only like one day or three days of sight seeing.
I would have gone to the airport more often if they have a convenient walking path that links out to the rest of Singapore. But currently the only way I see was to access via East Coast Park. It would be a very long walk.

@@AttilaAndZae Actually it's not located in a terminal, it's an individual mall in the middle of Changi. It is closest to Terminal 1 though.

The funny thing is Indians always stick to Indian food when in Singapore. They do not try food of other ethnicity.
@@elvinyeo7230 well I had lots in Australia. Asian processed food, Turkish, Lebanese food..Singapore has more Indians and Asians.. i would prefer South Indian and Cantonese cuisine.. Most of the Asian food are raw, refined wheat noodles and too much fish sauce or shriman paste. Processed food except Dumplings. Thai and Malaysian are extraordinary

We only had one phone unfortunately. Some scooter companies allow you to unlock multiple scooters with one account, so we thought it would be the same for the bikes. We still managed to make it work thankfully 😅

We did not notice. There were tons of other people around us who were taking photos and videos who were also not wearing them. We wore our masks off camera however, but we didn't want to be on camera with masks on.

@@j.t1682 LAX is a dump of an airport. I used to fly to the U.S.at least once a year. I hated to fly into LAX. SFO is better, but still way behind Changi.
