having built a jig similar to this 10 years ago when I started back up with woodworking I found that if the fingers and gaps are the same size the joint will be too tight and most of the glue is pushed out. Try adding a couple of sheets of paper between each of the pieces to make the gaps a shade bigger. Keep safe during these troubled times.
@@thomashajicek2747 I’m petty inexperienced with finger joints, they went together pretty easily, barely needing some light coaxing in the end. What did I overlook?
Gregory, Great idea, my friend. I think this will solve some of my issues with box joints. You could also make different sizes to accommodate a situation. Thanks again. God Speed to all of you in Ukraine. Felix
Would only use the word "simple" with the use of it. Very innovative and well made, though. It may be considered simple to make for someone with a shop like yours and your skill level, but for us, more novice level woodworkers in our messy, low dollar shops it might be more of a challenge.
My thoughts and prayers are with your country, I watch the news everyday, hoping the war is ending! I apologize for my country for being neutral at this time and am very ashamed by it (knowing our government has ties with Russia, sadly…instead of galvanizing our own workforce we import too much from Russia!). From South Africa❤️
I love the design mounting the router bit barely in the chuck that’s not a good idea. Maybe make the fingers a little thinner shouldn’t be too much of an issue as it’s always supported by the piece you’re working underneath it’s only a template so the load is taken up by whatever is underneath it.
My calculations for Bosch 1200 handheld router shows that this jig needs specific bit dimensions for specified jig tooth depth and specified maximum workpiece depth. You can manage to find a bit for material thickness of about 23mm max. For thicker material it is not easy obtain appropriate bit. I made my first box with it - beautiful jig!

not exactly, take a look at the keller dovetail system, that is working on a similar idea, you will see that to work you need 2 different bits and a template that is different from the one that is used here.
@@andreachinaglia5804 that’s trye if you want to keep them fancy (different size for tails and pins) but if you go down the path of simmetric tails and pins you can domit with just one router bit and one jig 😉
Excellent! Elegant! Thanks for sharing! However, could not d/l the pdf w/o 'enabling' cookies for Drive. Was able to Preview it and discovered that neither the diameter nor the length of the of the router bit were specified. Assuming 15mm and 15MM+
Before screwing in the one side stopper/guide, how much wood did you plain off and why. Reason I'm asking, the material being routed (finger jointed) will be resetting on that end stopper, so by reducing the size of the first stick affects the first cut....I hope my concern is making sense here.

If you added paper to the jig, wouldn’t that also effect the size of the fingers giving you bigger fingers and not fixing the problem?
@@thomashajicek2747 I’m petty inexperienced with finger joints, they went together pretty easily, barely needing some light coaxing in the end. What did I overlook?
I do not use to coment. But this is one of the best (and simple) jig I have seen.
Congratulation
Hello Gregory,
Thanks for the plans, a simple and ingenious idea. I'm going to test this quickly. 😉
Creative minds are rare. Nice job.
WOW you make it look so simple and results are outstanding. Great job. Greetings from Paraguay.
Sure he makes it look simple, he's got a complete professional woodshop and workbench to make it look simple. $$$$$

Thank you for the idea and plans of this jig. I’m making one right now and look forward to using it a lot.
Simple and easy, I’ll have to give it a try, several hundred shop boxes needed.
Works great and simple to use …now I need to build the super cool and super complex work bench to build and use the template. 😮
Stay Save 👍🏻 all the best from Germany
Fabulous. Beautiful fit. Way beyond my skill
Wow You got some Chops Bro ! ! ! Congrats ! Great flow of processes !
Best thought thru jig for joints i saw! Very nice!
This is really wonderful!!! What a design, and that too, using scrapped machine parts. I wish i could copy this sometime. Thanks a ton for sharing.
Congratulations, fantastic and simple
Mate! What a jig!!! That's awesome 👌 Hope you and your family are safe and well.

Nice work & jig 🤗👍👍
Very nice jig, just perfect

I hope everything is fine with you and your loved ones!

Had to sub, mate! Amazing work and video! And thanks for the plans!
Although seeing you work is truly mesmerizing... our definitions of the word "simplest" differ greatly
A possible miss communication? The construction of jig was self evident and once made the use WAS simple!

Well done, way more complicated than my factory made jig but I also enjoy making things like this once in a while.
@buyamerican3191 What factory made jig? I can't find one.
And as expensive as hard wood is getting the factory ones are probably cheaper.
you are very talented!

Excellent 10 out of 10.
Wow, thank you, I'm convinced!
By far, the most complicated box joint jig I've seen in youtube :D but still seems super secure and producing great results. Great quality job!
The award for complicated box joint jig definitely goes to Matthias Wandel, ha.
@@FirstnameLastname-bp5cm now that I've seen Matthias' video, you are 100% right, like 20x more complicated :D

Love your videos. Your work is always so neat and clean. Our heart goes out to Ukraine. Such an unnecessary tragedy.

VERY clever idea :) Would be great for larger number jobs especially
Functional simplicity. Excellent idea!!! Would this work if you put a dovetail bit in your router, producing thru-dovetails?
