The ACES train was a casino-sponsored service operated by NJ Transit between New York and Atlantic City on weekends. Eight NJ Transit restroom-trailer multilevels (7229-7236) were upgraded with more comfortable seating and other amenities for the service.
Launched in 2009, the service operated push-pull style with ex-Amtrak P40 diesels on one end of the train and ALP-44 electric units on the other. Heading to Atlantic City, the P40 would lead, acting as cab car while the ALP provided power on the segment of the trip over the NE Corridor. At Shore interlocking, the train reversed direction to the non-electrified Atlantic City line, where the P40 diesel was fired up and the ALP-44 acted as cab car for the run to Atlantic City. The process was reversed for the return trips.
The service was started in spring 2009 under an initial 3-year contract. Never gaining much ridership, it was truncated to summer weekends only for the 2011 season, with the service quietly ending when the 3-year period was over, not returning for 2012.
Seven of the eight multilevel cars were returned to their original coach configuration and returned to the general commuter pool, except for 7236, which, while re-striped back to its original NJ Transit colors, retained its ACES upgraded interior, and renumbered to 8800. It has been parked at the MMC ever since.
A couple of regular Atlantic City Line trains appear in this video as well as both ACES trainsets.

Two things you'll never see again. An ACES Train and a Comet IV Cab leading a train.

Really cool to see an electric locomotive running as a "dumb" cab, namely the ALP-44.

It was discontinued sadly in 2012, with no intent to revive it.
