It is one of the classical disaster movies of the 70s, plus the badassery of having Paul Newman and Steve McQueen. I have not watched it in years and years, maybe I need to go back and rewatch it to relive the magic of it. You have done it justice sister, well done in kudos to you! ❤

Thank you for your kind words. You should watch it again and see if you think it still holds up today.

Hi Stacia ! I have The Towering Inferno on DVD 📀. It takes forever to build up but with the help of a very dramatic score has a very entertaining conclusion & some fine 70's fashions & hairstyles. Get the popcorn 🍿 out & enjoy 😊.

The towering inferno, Earthquake, Airport 77, Posiden. Those movies were best seen in the Los Angeles historical theaters. The surround sound was incredible. Love everyone of those films.

To all..The Towering Inferno was the very first soundtrack album I bought. My first John Williams Soundtrack..The in 1975, Jaws..what a totally different score that was from Inferno..Then came The Missouri Breaks, which was in a different direction for John Williams. But in 1977 in the summertime..there was this lil film about a young Luke Skywalker..and There was another Great score by John Williams..Star Wars, but latter on in November..was another score by John Williams Close Encounters of the Third Kind! WOW talk about Mind blowing score..to me and including John Williams one of his top Five scores written by John Williams! Star Wars and Close Encounters were both Nominated for best scores at the Oscars..Star Wars won..But I have still today think that Close Encounters was a better score than Star Wars..Close Encounters was very weird and moody and was a very deep thinking score. I do like The LSO And John Williams Star Wars score..but it is straight forward a swashbuckling space drama.
But in late 1978..John Williams and LSO got together again and for a Big WOW score..Superman! The beginning of Superman is truly an amazing event. As the name swoosh by..there is John Williams and LSO bringing Justice to Superman! As a young teen..I was totally blown away how Superman sounded and looked! Still Amazing Today!

The Tower Book….The Ending is different from The Glass Inferno..The Fire Burns itself out..when it reaches The Top of the Tower. The Glass Inferno ..Book It had the Exploding of the Water Tanks..putting the Fire out! ..That Producer/Director Irwin Allen who came off with great success with The Poseidon Adventure…20th Century Fox was outbid, by Warner Brothers for the book The Tower, Furious Irwin Allen was pissed of at 20th Century Fox allowing this to happen. Then came The Glass Tower and Allen made sure that Fox were on their toes with the bidding war. When Fox got the Glass Tower..It was Irwin Allen telling Fox it would be a complete disaster if Warner Brothers did their film The Tower..and another disaster of Fox produced their film. Irwin Allen set up a meeting between both Studios, Fox and Warner Brothers..FIRST TIME EVER! Two Studios and One Film! But Fox told Irwin Allen that he Could Not direct by himself The Towering Inferno! As he didn’t Direct all of Poseidon!
Most films usually Two Shooting Units..Not Towering Inferno..Irwin Allen would pull Once again his friends out of Retirement Special Effects Maker..LB Abbott and A.D. Flowers who worked on The Oscar Winning Effects to The Poseidon Adventure. There were Units filming the Visual Effects..The Minuture for The Glass Tower was almost 100 Feet! There were San Francisco Filming Unit, there was John Guillerman directing NON ACTION SEQUENCES with stars ..at 20th Century Fox Studios. Irwin Allen and his Yes Men …had to go to John Guillerman to tell him..Keep that camera Rolling. If there was smoke, fire, explosions, actors in peril..John Guillerman..DID NOT DIRECT IT!
It took Irwin Allen seven days to film the exploding the Water Tank Sequences! The Towering Inferno had two Cinematographers..Joesph Biroc, Action Sequences, and Fred J Koenekamp action sequences and first unit with Director Guillerman non action. And another filming unit of visual effects, miniature and Larger Effects of scenic elevator explosion. Which you see in the film…Irwin Allen is directing, this Major sequence of the Scenic Elevator..All the stars in the Elevator, Faye Dunaway, Jennifer Jones, and the future Mrs. Irwin Allen, Shelia Matthews,..The Explosion..which Allen kept in the film…Was Too Damn Big..The Three Story Set on the Backlot at Fox..of The Facade of The Glass Tower, with the Scenic Elevator..The explosion was so big…The Flames shot Up and over to the Trees on the backside where Irwin Allen was filming..set the Tree’s on Fire..and the Screams coming from the Real Actors inside the Scenic Elevator ..No Stunt Doubles! The massive scene only took One Take..Shelia Matthews after the sequence told Her future Husband Irwin Allen, We could feel the massive heat from that explosion..and remember we all are wearing thin Chiffon! Lol🤔🥰😜
John Williams was asked by Director Irwin Allen, who did The Poseidon Adventures Music, to come back to write The Towering Inferno score. In the 5:05 Main Title Cue..Irwin Allen was on the Music Stage at 20th Century Fox recording Studio..along with the head of Fox Music Department Lionel Newman, Alfred’s Brother…John Williams said in a interview..Producer/Director Irwin Allen..was on hand at the first recording of the Helicopter Sequence of Paul Newman flying to The Glass Tower. Composer John Williams said when finished with that music sequence..Ask Irwin Allen what did he think? Irwin in a huff..said it was all wrong, something is wrong about this music for the beginning…and stormed off the recording studio..Lionel Newman pulled John Williams aside and told Williams..I know how to fix this! Around Bar 56 with music, On Film..Producer By Irwin Allen name come up..Lionel Newman said.lets add only a Cymbal Crash as Produced by Irwin Allen’s name appears.
On Take two of cuing the music with main title sequence as Irwin Allen is in the Recording Studio…All John Williams added was that Cymbal Crash..all the music was the same as cue no. 1. After the sequence ended, Irwin Allen went to John Williams and Lionel Newman and said..This is great! Sounds excellent! I don’t know all what you did different! I like it! Irwin Allen left the recording studio a happy man! And John Williams and Lionel Newman ..only added one Cymbal Crash! Produced by Irwin Allen..in fact on the released Warner brother soundtrack of The Towering Inferno..No Cymbal Crash!! Lol 😜
When Producer Mike Matessino got on a box set The Disaster Box Set of The Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake and The Towering Inferno..The Film score to The Towering Inferno..Both Version, Film Score and Album are on the Box Set!

Honestly most of the disaster movies in the 1970s were crap, only two stood out: Poseidon Adventure and the Towering Inferno. Airport 77 and Earthquake was only so-so.
