The Sunny (1200) 2 door sedan/coupe was sold in Australia, but IIRC it was only for 2 years, and didn’t sell well because the 2 door fastback coupe and the 4 door sedan had it covered. The last time I saw one, was a red one in Bendigo in the mid to late 90’s. The Datsun 1000 however, before it only came in 2 door sedan/coupe, 2 door wagon and ute.
@@wasabicars In Australia, they became Sunny as a newer model in the late 70’s. Until then, all the original bodied cars were just called Datsun 1000 (1000cc) and from 1971 new body, bigger engine, Datsun 1200 (1200cc). The 1200 ute was the last of these models. It was withdrawn from the market in 1985.
I get so excited when I see any Gemini on the a Australian roads. TX, TC, TD, TE, TF, TG, (not you RB…). I had 1 1978 TD Wagon (which was also a 2 door), and I loved that thing. It had the square headlights, which was awesome to me. The gear shift and steering wheel were more like bus than a car, but I didn’t care. The TG ZZ/Z was my dream car back in the day.
Nice. Would have been so cool to have had a Gem wagon back in the day. Funny thing about the RB is, They are definitely the most commonly seen Gemini here in Japan. There's a 2-door liftback (which Australia obviously didn't get) literally down the road.
How effing gorgeous was it! I really wish I could have met the owner and seen the interior, under the bonnet, etc... I'm thinking the first MCM Gemini video will be dropping any day now. (I guess)

In 1988, I bought my first car - a 1977 TC Gemini sedan. It had minor crash damage (just cosmetic) so I only paid $850. That's exactly one dollar per kilogram. One of the most fun cars to drive that I've owned.

cool :) ah yes, obtaining random car parts for more or less no reason whatsover is something i did aswell. ages ago, long before i had a car or a licence i bought home an oem bmw mesh alloy wheel that i found on the side of the road with shredded tire lmao. had no idea what to do with it and it was essentially wasting space for some time, but atleast i got some scrap metal money out of it at the end lmao
The old Kadetts I imagine were the worst of all the T cars in terms of spec, but nevertheless great cars. Easy to drive, precise shifter and compared to the earlier VW Golfs the steering was heaven. Its a shame there aren't many around anymore...
The Kadett C was one car I was truly hoping to see while in Germany. I checked some car sales sites and saw mostly 4 door sedans. And, none nearby to me.
Did you get to see a Kadett C coupe, on your German adventure? It's too bad the Kadett C was so handicapped from the start, here in Europe. The sedans are plentiful over here, and we even have our fair share of the coupes, but they are getting expensive. The sad thing is, that the biggest engine you could get in either of them, was the super anemic 1.2l OHV. It's not too out of place in the sedan, but the coupe.. Come on! The GT/E, powered by a 2.0l CIH engine from the factory is another thing, but those are big money cars and very rare. You could make a basic coupe into a GT/E clone (talking in Finnish terms here) and many people have, but there's a lot of work involved. It also feels frustrating, because I think the 1.9/2.0 CIH engine, bigger axles, bigger brakes etc. were supposed to be on the car in the first place. I would love to have/build a CIH-engined Kadett C coupe one day but for now, I have been sticking to models that came with the CIH from the factory. Someone would say that's a handicap too these days, but that's what I know and love. As for the white Isuzu in your video, I didn't spot any Opel/Euro specific parts on it. I guess the owner just wanted to be different, with the GT/E and Irmscher stickers. I know very little about the Geminis, but if that one is some kind of a special model (ZZ/R) in itself, then I would have emphasized that more. Again, I'm envious of the stock engines in these cars. So much more potent than the Opel OHV! By the way. We have loads of those Sunny 2d sedans here in Finland. It's marketing name here, actually was 'Datsun Finn'. Right alongside the best selling Toyota Corolla, it was a really popular car here.
The problem with the Gemini was they were a little slow… 1200/1300 datsuns and Mazdas were faster so everyone put extractors on them. Apparently they needed an angled header pipe to scavenge properly. Because of this all the aftermarket headers installed made the engines pop head gaskets like crazy…as a result they didn’t hang around very long…pity coz the coupes are great looking cars👍
The exterior of the Gemini coupe has quite a Chevrolet Vega vibe to it. Please don’t take this as an insult - while the Vega was a pretty lousy car, I actually liked the exterior design of the hatchback. I see that Buick sold a version of the Gemini here in North America back in the day, the “Buick Opel”. But I can’t recall ever seeing one. (Yes, I’m an old fart.)
Lol! I'm not taking it as an insult (for several reasons). One reason is I don't know the Chevy Vega ;-) And actually, a buddy in South Australia owns a Buick Opel coupe. Very tidy too
