wow i can't believe Charles Chaplin was a furry Seriously though, this is one of those short-but-sweet videos that'll be forever etched into my mind, as both as an aspiring teathre actor and fursuiter!!! My acting has always walked hand-in-hand with my involvement in the fandom, but this video (hell, this WHOLE SERIES) ties them even further together! ❤
'Dumb-beauty' for Bojack, hadn't thought of that one... I would of classified him as the 'depressing-malingerer'... Another lovely episode, well edited and executed!
Culturally F'd It felt different as in a Suit i can be who I want (In my Case Tarlo The Boar) and it covers my face but in The suit i wore for the show was very open as people could see my face through the cat makeup and i had to stick to a script. Though I have a second fursona who is also quite Flamboyant so that part was not very hard.
Oh wow, this is some very neat research done here, and decently presented as well. I wasn't expecting much at first but I'm glad I stuck watching the whole thing. Kudos to you, have my subscription, and I'll check Dogpatch Press as well! _(the music still feels too "stock", tho, sorry x3)_
Animal parts in theater go back a long way. There is an Ancient Greek vase portraying a scene from a comedy, with actors riding piggyback on other actors dressed as horses; and Aristophanes' plays _The Birds_, _The Frogs_, and _The Wasps_ would have featured animal-costumed actors. No doubt, there were animal characters in Medieval Nativity pageants and morality plays. Even Shakespeare was not immune: remember the famous direction, _"Exit, pursued by a Bear"_ in _A Winter's Tale_? And then there's a great Jacobean play, _The Witch of Edmonton_, which has a prominent part for a talking dog... 7@=e
I'm not sure that you could necessarily say that panto animals were antecedents of the Furry fandom. I certainly agree that it could be worthwhile for fursuiters to pursue pantomime, if only for something new to do. Say, wouldn't it be cool to do a panto at a convention masquerade?
I don't think everyone will give respect. Though some may find furries okay. In fact I am okay to the extent of people not really caring outside the fandom, and leaving furrows be as long as they follow laws and so on.

As someone who had been in theater and had to play nana for Peter Pan I can buy that fursuiting and the theater do go hand-in-hand

That's awesome! We were very excited for this episode too. Do you think you'll ever perform in a fursuit (or skin-part) professionally?
Culturally F'd That's a dream I'll hopefully be able to realize!!! :D
Well at some point someone's got to play the ass
Especially if it's a donkey's

I love the aestethic of the old photos of pantomime animal "skins".
As somebody taking a Drama Course this is really intresting. I think i may tell my Drama Teacher these facts just to impress her.
Thanks to you guys, that dog costume scene in the shining makes much more sense now.
Ghosts of Fursuit Past
+Culturally F'd preach it.
Culturally F'd some people still freak out though. Of course some like that creepy dude and some don't.
So many ways of being furry.
Wooooo!!! New Fursuit History video! :D
I once I had to play a Flamboyant Cat in a Show at School. It was kinda fun. It was very different from a Fursuit though.
How was it different? Did you take lessons from Flamboyant Cat into future fursuiting endeavors? Please let us know, we're curious!

Culturally F'd Yes. The part taught me quite a bit to my suprise
Other people: If I were to live back in time I’d be a victorian queen!

This series is fantastic! I'm headed to buy that shirt right now!
my theory of jack london being the first furry was incorrect, whod of known?
thanks for this, it was increadibly interesting!
So.......Charlie Chaplin was kinda a furry before the fandom existed? Cool to know.
Only kinda!... But just enough?

These videos are fantastically made and really interesting!

it's fascinating to see how much care went into making the costumes so life like :o (maybe not the horses though...XD)

I kind of wonder though if it didn't create a fandom specifically for these panto animals. Maybe that was arguably a sort of pseudo furry fandom.
@@tinybird2413 Now that could be a subject for further research! (I have poor if any research skills.)
I always feel sorry for the guy playing the ass on a pantomime horse.
And I tought I was a good furry Frank N Furter. Is Rusty able to join shadow casts? lmao
Always wanted to! Would also love to do a furry remake of Rocky Horror, but might have to settle for something like a masquerade set at a con
nice
great video but the way that you say theatre is going to give me nightmares
the horse is a old version of lion dances, jk
Rusty is best furry
*Why doesn’t school teach us this*
