- This is a new device that even the guys who make it never thought of using it on a sawmill. Soon as I saw it I got the idea. Thanks Stone Coat, router sled for a sawmill! Now I can flatten slabs right on the sawmill. Sawmill router sled.

I can’t believe this came up. I was working on that exact idea to help guys with mills utilize what they got! You beat me to it and awesome video. Glad it was you who sprung it out there ! I am getting one!👍🤠
It's a good start, needs up/down adjustable mod.
We are working at manufacturing one that has all that and will work on any mill setup. This is the first one I saw that came close to what we are doing! Thank you for sharing this.
Doug Smith is correct in his comment about mailing it to yourself via a registered letter. I had talked with a patent lawyer several years ago and that is as good as a patent for one year. Great idea.
Good to know but I didn't invent the idea, I just recognized a fairly cheap very well made device that would work.
Nice job, mate. Great thinking outside the box, as the saying goes. 👍👍👏🙌🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks 👍
Super clever idea! I don't know how the router slides so easily, but hopefully it won't eventually bind up from dust. Also, once people begin making items from your wood, toss in a few frames at the end of some videos, I'd love to see them!
I didn't show it real well but there are little ridges on the aluminum extrusion where the router slides, it's not a flat plate, that helps with eliminating friction making the router slide easy.
Nice job!!! Watch all the time. I used to live in Burton on Butternut road years ago, now I reside in Florida. I have a helpful tip, use a cheap battery powered leaf blower to keep your sawmill clean and sawdust free. Very easy and fast cleanup. Again nice job. 👍
Hi John, i know butternut road, cool. I did clean it off with a DeWalt cordless blower off camera. Glad you watch!
Great thinking! Now you are only limited by the cut width of your mill, not the width of your planer.
I thought that sounded like a lot for a router jig but it is a lot cheaper than an industrial sized planer.
I spend more on blades than I spent on that. That makes it seem more reasonable lol.
Thanks for your latest video. Best other use for my sawmill. That’s as good as a pocket on a shirt.
nice work George thanks for showing us that, you might have given me some ideas!
If you are thinking of building your own watch this for a better idea. th-cam.com/video/hCfI2L3Eg-Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=h7O_cq-dT4jjt8Zn
That’s a great discovery. May have to try it. Wish it had up and down adjustments but I suppose putting shims in of equal size will be fine. I might have to come up with the additional rail system for the lt35
Any slab over 2" would need shims between wheels and extrusion bars but I make wood so that's not a problem.
Lovely Slab George
Thanks, I've got a bunch of those.

It could use improvements, hoping I get someone at stonecoat to discuss mods they could sell for it.
@@mcsawmill let us know if they do. We need a flattener.
What a fantastic idea. Thank you, i'll be doing the same.
It needs height adjustment, probably should have shown that better but I love it
That’s pretty cool. Nice !!
My god that's gorgeous. Also, where is your hearing protection?
What?
great find. thanks for making the video.
Thanks for watching!
very nice job it works very well
Clever, George. Very clever.
Is that router older than me?
I don't remember when I got that router.
I have no idea whether you thought of it or not, but is there a way that a person can patent an idea such as you had there. If you didn’t think of it, and you did patent the idea and you mailed a special delivery letter back to yourself with the idea and drawings in it, you probably will make a fortune because I can see everybody who has a sawmill will want one of those gadgets. It was just an idea I had it was told to me years ago by a friend and of course I have no talent for thinking of things, other than when to come home for supper. Best of luck with your new toy. Take care. Be safe God bless. ✌️🇨🇦
It's not a new idea. Woodmizer makes a really nice one called the MB100 that they sell for $10,000.
Oh, by the way, I’m sure you can order a larger, cutting head for your rotor, or possibly get a bigger rotor for a bigger cutterhead. ✌️🇨🇦
Yes there are some larger options, also some that use replaceable carbide inserts. I have one on order! So thanks for the idea!
@@mcsawmill thank you kind, sir for replying to my suggestions. God bless.
Could you use an electric hand planner in a jig to put in the guide? Seems like that would be faster.
I was taking very light cuts, when I did the other side I did it in a single thick pass as a test and it worked fine. I'd say same speed as a power hand planer.
My hand planer makes wider cuts so might be faster but I have a bigger router and a half inch bit on order.
Hmmm, where's my credit card? It wouldn't fit my mill but still looks like a good router sled.
Yeah you have to have the double rails.
Excellent idea!! Kinda a price jig, but it might pay off at some point. Ed
I didn't mind the price, it's good quality material and well designed. A pleasant surprise in today's world.
Where did you find a 1/4 shank flattening bit.
Amazon search for spoilboard bit, make sure you pick one with 4 cutters. Watch the dimensions.
@mcsawmill yep. Been looking.
Do not replace the router it a Wen RT6033. I bought one because it was a half inch collet. The rocket scientist made the hole in the base rectangular. I bought a 1" round-over bit and IT DON'T FIT. Wen has a nasty habit of NOT supplying replacement parts for their stuff.
Thanks, no worries I have 3 other routers lol... I have a half inch bit coming.
Wtf!?! My buddy and I thought of this last year!!!
Well didja make a video of it? Lol
U can easily make that guide don't spend $400 lol .perfect fitt
My thinking, I can saw $2000 worth of slabs or make a $400 jig... Same amount of time. It's a choice, different people different reasoning. It's totally doable like you said.
Great Video, Every time, but this one I love my raised bunks on my Woodland Mills HM130MAX for getting my tractor forks in and out but this same virtue kills my ability to use this on my sawmill bed. Bummer.
If you put a wood block between the rails an the wheel brackets it would work on your mill. Maybe I'll show that in a video at Nate's.
could you not run the sawmill through it first to take off the heavy cut. less work for your router.
You sure could but it wasn't really that heavy a cut, I was just taking thin cuts because all I had was a 1" flattening bit.
@@mcsawmill o.k just mentioned it as I have a mill and have done that before, you certainly end up with a smother finish using the router as opposed to the mill. always nice to see people with out of the box ideas
I built this planer to go on my Lt 15 wide. Same principle except I can take off a 20” wide pass. th-cam.com/video/hCfI2L3Eg-Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=eCUD_ugpZuKaNHiB
That's AWESOME! I wish I had skills to build stuff like that! You can't plane wet wood, try it on dry slabs and take 1/16 or less off on final pass for a good finish, 1/8 is crazy heavy pass.
This is fantastic. I just built one and didn't even consider building it to go in my sawmill. I just might have to build this. Great video.
